We don't know if there haven't been discussions and back when he wasn't starting maybe he made his mind up to move on so no pojnt in making him an offer as he wanted regular game time and didn't see it here.

Who says an offer hasn’t been made, and terms can’t be agreed. There are two sides to a contract negotiation.

We owe something to players like him that we haven’t given him. If he moves on, I’ll be annoyed at the club, regardless of whatever spin Ashton tries to put on it

If he wanted to stay, and we wouldn’t make an offer he was ok with, then yes. But he may have decided he wanted to move on regardless, and wasn’t going to agree to another contract whatever was on offer. We just don’t (yet) know. Until we do, getting emotional about it seems premature.

He also might be unhappy as a result of the fact he was a key part of a team that got us promoted and then never given a fair chance in the league he got us promoted to

He's a League One player! He was signed by Paul Cook!
He came from Accrington Stanley! McKenna thought someone from Hull would be better in his place! How can he be good enough for Serie A!

Will be sad to see him go. Appreciate everything he's done for us.

I was there when McKenna's ITFC won in the Premier League at Home. Our only home win in a year.

Maybe, maybe not. No one knows. Still some want to turn it into a stick to beat the club with.

I get that everyone’s disappointed with the season, but there is an increasing tendency by some to look for any possible (often assumed) reason to have a dig. Won’t say any more on it - its getting tiresome.

But you will say more on it, won’t you? Every time someone has a valid criticism of the management of the club you are there to fight their corner - some decisions the club have made are wrong, we are well within our rights to point them out

Everyone makes wrong decisions, whether it be in life or business.

Of course you can point out mistakes, we all can. Most things are better in hindsight.

A certain type of supporter though would be prepared to take the rough with the smooth though wouldn't they? I mean, I was a bit fecking p1ssed off after the years of Mick Mack, Hurst, Lambert etc etc. However, we seem to have been catapulted and (hopefully) pinged down again for a short time.

Roll with it, improve, learn by your mistakes and hit the ground running!

Edit - I could more understand criticism if we were hovering around promotion for years and then go up and don't invest.

........but we went up from Div 1 to Prem on the bounce and then spent £130m

I don't quite see what the club hasn't given him. Burgess was signed from Accrington Stanley in League One, having played the bulk of his career at that level or lower. He now has 13 Premier League appearances to his name and counting (plus 39 in the Championship) and is regularly picked for his country. With apparently the chance to go and play in La Liga, the Spanish top division.

You can't exactly say Ipswich Town has stunted his career.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Me too, will be gutted if he goes. Top drawer performances from him when he's played for us, just don't understand why he hasn't been picked more this season.

@Guthers - every Prem player started their career in a lower league of some sort at some point, Burgess is no different in that respect.

We’ve no idea if it’s valid criticism. Texters won’t know what discussions have taken place and what Burgess is thinking. If CB wants to stay be we’re not interested, then fair enough we’re letting an excellent Championship player go. But we don’t know if that’s the case.

We’ll probably never know, what with Girona playing in La Liga.

Spot on, this is why our team spirit has disappeared, I think sadly this the only the start, I fear many more will follow.

Why would he stay not knowing if he's going to be a starter in the Championship when he's one of the few players to say they have performed to potential when given the chance this year.

Fair play to Cam, I thought when we went up from L1 that would be it for him but he's improved hugely season on season and if for whatever reason the management don't want him, he's earned the right to a good move. Good luck to the big man and thanks.

Not sure we owe anybody anything. Burgess has become a premier league player through us and is never going to be a starting player in the premier league the season after next. Not sure Greaves is the answer either but loads will go out and loads will come in.

All the best to Burgess if he goes. Has been brilliant for us and one I got massively wrong when I first saw him in a town shirt. McKenna has worked wonders. Hopefully somebody can replicate the pass he repeatedly does to Leif/Townsend!

Ben Godfrey went to Serie A for an estimated £11m, If that's the level of Serie A defenders I think we've seen enough evidence that Burgess will do fine in Serie A

Thanks to his hard work and being at the right club at the right time with the right manager he’s gone from washing around with Accrington, Salford, Oldham etc up to the age of 25/26 to playing 13 times in the Premier League, two promotions and playing for Australia.

Well done him, Cook for picking him up for £750k, McKenna for making him a better player and the club for giving him probably the best years of his career. I don’t think Burgess owes ITFC anything or visa versa.

He is a good, brave player and I’ll be sad to see him go. In terms of the future, in my view Greaves is a better player with a lot more potential, given he’s still only 24, if you are looking at one or the other. Burgess needs to be playing at his age and Spain sounds a great opportunity for him. Girona is a bit of a dump but the area around it is lovely, if you avoid the Costas.

So should we have offered CB another contract? Yes. But maybe we did. Who knows and without knowing it isn’t fair to beat the club with that particular stick - but people will as there’s a lot of disappointment, blame and hatred out there at the moment.

For me, I just wish him well. A very good player for us and an integral part of a special two years.

Yes, I can very clearly remember you and others saying before the start of the season that Cam Burgess should be a starting CB in a newly promoted Prem team.
