I've been resigned to us losing Downes for a while.

I just hope the reason is career development rather than any internal issues.

...Evans needs to get a hold of the club (and specifically the players) very quickly.

There is really only one course of action open to him.

If it's to do with Downes then that's a real blow this close to the season. He's had his head turned by Palace I imagine and it's hard to blame him if that's the case, we're a shambles and they're a Prem side. Need to maximise the fee and at least we won't have to pay him off if he's put a request in. Someone else will need to step up in that midfield now. Could be the break that Dozzell needs, even though it's not a like for like replacement.

Flynn Downes handing in a transfer request is really disappointing but hard to blame him. He's certainly ready to try his hand at championship level and the stuff going on round the club makes that sound unlikely anytime soon hence his decision maybe?

This. It's madness to think someone of his talent should spend their time wasting away with us. He deserves to play at a higher level.

If we play hard ball and keep him I'll be delighted, but it'll only be delaying the inevitable departure.

Agreed. I was amazed we were able to keep hold of him but given time in season I actually thought we had pulled it off.

It's absolutely gutting to be honest but it's not really right he should be in L1. We have to max what we can get to him which is going to be lower now due to this. I can see £2.5-3mil happening but we need big add ons and sell on clause.

The ONLY silver lining is this is the area of the pitch we are most bloated. We should have enough in that area for this league on paper. Huws, Nolan or El Miz need to really step up and take that position. Dozzell wouldn't be like for like but he also needs to step up.

Not ideal, but if he is handing in transfer requests he should leave, we don't want players here who don't want to be here.

You can't knock the lad, mid table League 1 or mid table Premier League.

Squeeze as much £££ as you can and allow him to leave, cases have shown we regret when we don't take the £££, McGoldrick, Bialkowski and even Judge.

If he were to stay now, would he be the same player, would his head be in the right place?

I doubt it.
