Um, he's actually quite an intelligent boy really, and that's not how he was brought up to behave...

Was doing shopping for his nan after helping a war veteran across the road and giving a homeless man a £20 note. Etc.

So I thought that was going quite well, a hugely embarrassing punishment from his mother splashed across the media but then she spoilt it with the last paragraph trying to excuse his actions by saying he was making a point about mental health which is hugely disingenuous.

He was just being an idiot.

His Mum is cross, but hasn't grounded him as he's suffered enough with lockdown, so has confiscated his Playstation instead.

I reckon she must work for the Marcus Evans Group, because that is some #banterera parenting right there.

Love Whitty's comments: 'I'm sure he'll become a model citizen in due course'.

Very witty, you might even say.

It's amazing how mental health is inextricably linked with being a dick, going to the pub and watching football. It's the new ace in the hole for acting a tosser.

Everyone's in an unforgiving mood hey? He might have behaved like a little sh1t, but that doesn't mean his mum isn't right!

Take it from me, many kids really are sufferring from a massive blow to their mental health. Come to my house for the day to see it in action.

My boy is just 7, so no.

The mother's words add up to me - how many 15 years old would even know Whitty exists, let alone go find him to (wrongly) blame him for the plight he's sufferring?

We've had threads on here full of adults (me included) chatting about how hard lockdown is - can you imagine how much harde rit would be for a child?

"It's not fair" ... well this time it really isn't - little lives are getting ruined left right and centre with something none of us had to deal with as youngsters.

15 year olds in particular must be looking at their education getting ruined along with their life chances. The clued up ones will be thinking that getting a job or somewhere of their own to live was already looking tough before covid, but now?! ...no wonder they're fcking angry.

Have to say, its very weird seeing the "libtards" line up with the tory classes to put the boot in here.

(I apologise if my tone is a little vehment, but this is very close to home).

Did you read the article?

She didn’t just say that her son was suffering, she also said: “He was trying to give a message across to Mr Whitty and make him understand what he and other youngsters are going through, but I’m very upset and angry with him over how he did it.”

Do you think he was trying to get that nuanced point across by repeating going ‘liar’?

This isn't what she said though.

She said he was trying to make a point to Whitty about mental health but he didn't mention it once, he was just an awful, rude twot.

You're making a general point which isn't what other people in the thread are commenting on.

Oh give over mate.

No one has said it's not hard for kids but she was clearly talking rubbish about him trying to make a point to Whitty. He was being a cock. If she had just said it's been hard on him we'd have sympathised. It was the attempt to rewrite history which has gone down badly.

Yeah, if she’d just said, “he acted a bit silly but he’s a 15 year old and these last 12 months haven’t exactly been easy for kids that age” then I think everyone would have fully agreed.

I am with you Ulla.

The truth is not one person on this thread knows what circumstances/pressures the child in question lives under. But that won't stop the queue of people looking to put the boot in nonetheless.

He acted stupidly. No question. Show me a 15 year old who hasn't and I'll show you a liar.
