Can we beat France? 10:28 - Dec 5 with 5174 views | blueasfook | Mbappe is awesome and they are very strong up front, but if we are on our game, I certainly dont see why we cant beat them. And if we do beat France, I think we are then looking like having a good chance to go on and win the tournament.

Yeah took us a while to settle into the game. Maguire made a couple of poor passes early on. Only Pickford prevented us going a goal down. Once we scored though, Senegal just seemed to lose their competitiveness.

Can we beat France? on 10:48 - Dec 5 with 3451 views | tractordownsouth | If we contain Mbappe, we'll win. If we don't, we won't. There may be some wriggle room in between, but that'll likely be what it boils down to.

If it ends in pens, it won't be our game.

Probably, but I'd rather Pickford than Loris who I thinks overrated and our lot have all had recent experience with big shootouts.

Can we beat France? on 10:58 - Dec 5 with 3364 views | SlippinJimmyJuan | They are clearly a strong team, but don't think they've been at their best yet. I don't hold particularly high hopes of beating them, but we are more than capable of it. I think it will probably be quite cagey and be decided by penalties. I would love to see as take the game to them and put them under pressure as they have looked a bit flustered when the likes of Australia, Denmark and Poland have done that.

Can we beat France? on 11:10 - Dec 5 with 3298 views | Vaughan8 | France's midfield is no good. Just hasn't been found out yet. They pay basically 4 strikers/forwards so definitely focus on the attack. Fromwhat i've seen, they don't have that much. Heavily reliant on one player, which is something England aren't. As someone else said, if you stop Mbappe, then you've done the majority of it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Can we beat France? on 11:12 - Dec 5 with 3290 views | itfcjoe | Yes we can, they will rightly be favourites but they will be fearing us as well. Mbappe is superb, but their defence can be got at - we are an incredibly solid tournament team under Southagte - it's prob 60:40 in their favour

I think we need to steady ourselves and not concede in the first 30 mins, after which it's anyones game Actually, I think we have an excellent chance, in fact I think we will do it. I'm flying to sunny Glasgow later today - where I will remain until Friday. Did you get any info on that Indian place?

I thought of you on saturday, maybe inaccurately - apologies if so - was drinking in the Kings arms with my norwich mate. Nice pub - not clever or pretty, just nice.

Can we beat France? on 11:43 - Dec 5 with 3092 views | BloomBlue | I think we have a good chance, certainly their defence looked poor early on in the Poland game and Poland have been more of a defensive team in this WC. Plus I've not seen their midfield put under a lot of pressure yet. Yes we need to watch Mbappe as he will get at least one chance, Walker's pace is obviously going to be key. But I think France will be just as worried about Bellingham, especially his ability to rum from deep with the ball.
Can we beat France? on 11:57 - Dec 5 with 3031 views | clive_baker | We can beat them, I think if we played them 10 times we would win 3 of them so we've got a sniff. I do think they're the best team in the competition though, even without Kante or Pogba. It's natural to fear Mbappe but I would be nervous about giving him too much respect, Giroud and Greizmann are very capable too. When Greizmann plays well France play well, so we need to stop him. It's a big game defensively to keep their forward options quiet but I also hope we have a real go at France and don't show them too much respect, we've got so much quality going forward, a quality centre forward ourselves in Kane, a nice blend of experience and pace, youth, fearlessness in Bellingham, Foden, Saka and co. They'll be fearing our threats like we are theirs, and I hope we approach the game with the confidence to play to our strengths and get at them. If we lose so be it, but my only criticism of Southgate at the Euros was Italy were there for the taking and we seemed to show them too much respect in the final after that early goal.

Just hope it doesnt go to penalties. We know too well how that always ends for us.

Can we beat France? on 12:02 - Dec 5 with 2990 views | ghostofescobar | We have one of the only right backs in the WC that is as fast of Mbappe. That alone won't be enough to swing it, but looking at how Mbappe has made some right backs look as though they are doing a gentle jog, it will help.

Can we beat France? on 12:19 - Dec 5 with 2917 views | bluejacko | Hasn’t Walker been up against Mbappe already this season in the CL and done well against him?
Can we beat France? on 12:25 - Dec 5 with 2868 views | LankHenners | We should take confidence from Poland being able to get in behind them a few times where they should have scored. Even Australia caught them out with good wing play. However they have an ability to turn the screw quite quickly and control the game whilst Mbappe is near impossible to stop. It's a game where if we lose it's 'for all their good progress England can't beat a top team', but if we win then we should be confident of going all the way. Where we fell down against Italy at the Euros was failing to maintain control of the match and ended up looking like the team less likely to score - France will probably make us pay more ruthlessly if we have a repeat of that. It's probably the most difficult competitive game we've had for years, Italy obviously close, but Croatia were just a good team that we gave too much respect to, Germany at the Euros were/are a team on a downward trend but France are reigning champs and playing well with (arguably) the best player in the world showing why he's right at the top in that conversation. I think we can do it but we can't afford the sloppiness from the start of the Senegal game or it'll be over before HT. Getting in front then pushing for a killer on the counter is probably the best route as they're too dangerous on the break for us to be in a position where we need to commit more bodies forwards. And again, we can't be (as much as we can help it) in a situation where it becomes something resembling attack v defence as they'll break through eventually and will have the momentum to win.

Can we beat France? on 12:41 - Dec 5 with 2754 views | chicoazul | Can we, yes, but we need an extra defender in there at the expense of Saka or Foden. I’d like Trent but Southgate will doubtless go for Trippier.

Can we beat France? on 12:54 - Dec 5 with 2640 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | We can win 100% but they have some damn good players. Mbappe is probably the best player in the world rn. Not just his pace but he is an elite finisher, among other things and can score from nothing. Tchoumaeni was the most sought-after young midfielder last season. Griezmann is so tidy. They are a different ball game to anything we have played before.
