The midfield was comprehensively dominated by the hosts. Andre Dozzell should have been charged an admission fee. From a long menu of embarrassing slop served up by QPR on Saturday, his was perhaps the most insipid of all. At one point, in the second half, a duffed clearance dropped his way 30 yards from goal and he just stuck a lazy leg out and bashed the ball straight back to the centre half who’d given it him in the first place off the flat of his shin pad. What was that? I mean, what was that? You talk about ball-playing central midfield players having a “picture in their mind”, he’s drawing his with a wax crayon. May as well not have been there. It was like playing with ten. A dog of a performance — I wondered whether Bob Carolgees was free to head up the coast, stick his hand up his ar5e and try animate him a bit. It’s as close to a 1/10 as I’ve come for a long time. |  |

It will be a sad day if he fails at QPR and drops down the leagues, he genuinely looked a fantastic prospect before that injury, and looked very much an important part of international squads that not only competed but succeeded.
There will be no glee from me if his career fails to follow it's early promise, I wasn't upset to see him leave when he did, but was sad, I would love to see him recapture some of that early promise. He really did look a cut above at times here prior to his injury. |  |

Dozzell v Cam Humphries? It's a no contest isn't it? Sometimes you'd get a dazzling Dozzell, sometimes he just wouldn't show up at all. Cam Humphries is on it every single game. Scores goals, works his socks off, and he also does the killer passes that we thought only special players like Dozzell could see. Don't look back, look forwards. |  |

Neil Critchley, a QPR manager has had a post-Exeter Hurst's moment (ish) after the game where he openly slated the players and their attitude. He tried his best to choose his words but it was hard.
He ought to have slated them more. If the players don't respect the shirt and travelling fans why can't they be criticised in public?
As for Dozzell, a poor, lazy player who seem to have had attitude issues for years, first with us, now with QPR. But he will be still defended by some Town fans. Wonder what the excuses are going to be now. Apparently Championship was gonna be the level where he could flourish.
Compare his 'progress' throughout the years to what we already see in Cam Humphreys.

I don't think any of us would get any pleasure of seeing Andre go back down the leagues, but that report does seem strangely reminiscent of some of his latter performances here before he moved on.
I remember vividly his standing in the centre circle, adjusting his socks or shinpads as an attack went right past him, I think maybe against Fleetwood or someone like that. It's a shame as we all wanted him to be a top player.
I personally think he still can be that, but he needs to get his head back in it, or at least thats what it sounds like. |  |

He did look a great prospect and he deserved his move to a higher level. I hope he moves his career forward. He was one of the more talented players I’d seen here before his injury and genuinely thought he might have a better career than his father.

I never got the hype with Andre, he obviously had his moments but they were so few and far between.
We were all desperate for him to be our shining light, especially with the legendary status of Dozzell snr but it never really happened.

A bit of an enigma for sure, but Dozzell always struck me as a player in desperate need of some proper coaching, structure and stability around him.
Instead, he was managed, in the main, by Hurst, Lambert and Cook.Had he stayed fit under Mick, he'd either be playing either Premier League or Jewson League football by now.
McKenna would have loved him.
Lest we forget, a lot of people on here were also writing off Woolf by the end of Cook's tenure here. [Post edited 9 Jan 2023 10:55]

I mean Downes moved to West Ham for big money and is playing games in the premier league, even if he's not a regular starter there.

Always good to see the 'bad attitude/work ethic' posts about a kid who has fought his way back from an awful injury to earn a move back into the Championship and is playing pretty regularly there.
Dozzell can be a frustrating player at times, and does lack the physicality required for me in transition - but he's having a good career and should be seen as a big success from the academy.
Everyone knows how poorly we were run as a club, we've heard it from every angle possible but there is still a need from some to go after the side that failed to get out of League 1 whilst being managed by a massive whopper as though they were the devil incarnates |  |

No one here saw this performance, I'm sure he was terrible but he didn't put in 1/10 performances here ever.
An average career for an academy player is being out of the game by 21, he's now got 150 career games under his belt so is doing well. He won't scale the heights we all hoped he would but who ever does?
It's just a lazy trope thrown around though:

All footballers work hard, I used to see Dozzell at the gym nearly every time I went there working hard, he's never fallen out with managers, had one transfer which was a move upwards - why talk of attitude issues? Why talk of work ethic issues? He will put in a stinker every now and again, he can be bullied out of games but that isn't a lack of desire or hard work | |
