It’s now or never for us this season…. 18:26 - Jan 21 with 4576 viewsitfcjoe

Next 7 games are 5 of the bottom 6. So a real opportunity to turn this round substantially.

We need this soft run to pay benefits

Agree.

It's not over, but it is last chance time over that period.

Truly impaired.

Definitely a real chance, problem is nothing over the last few weeks gives any kind of confidence we could go on that sort of run

I dearly hope you are right. But for me it’s hope rather than expectation, sadly.

With our game vs Wednesday and then them and Plymouth playing each other within that run, it could look a lot tighter

We don’t deserve to be in the top 2 if truth be told - simply not as ruthless enough in both boxes as the top 2 are.

We will finish in the play-offs, in the mix with Derby, Bolton, Barnsley, which I think is probably right from what I’ve seen - we are in that group right now.

Can you imagine how we'd all be feeling going into these games if we were still in touching distance of Plymouth and Wednesday? Crikey, we'd expect to be top by several points come March, but just look where we are last couple of months have been an absolute hammer blow to our promotion aspirations and if anything, we look like we're getting worse with each passing game, I just don't know how we keep finding ourselves in this position season, after season, after season.

And we need to WIN all of those.

We have managed to put ourselves under massive pressure now.

This run should help us but for the first time I’m beginning to have doubts about McKennas approach. I think I heard him say in his post match interview that Oxford played unlike he had ever seen them play in the League before, in which case react to that and junk the obviously pre planned substitutions at 60-70 minutes. It is becoming increasingly obvious there is no plan B.

I’m not sure we have it in us to put the sort of run that we need together.

Really wish we weren’t in the Fourth round of the cup to be honest. I’ve never thought this over the years but a run of back to back league games with a settled side would be more beneficial to get this momentum back.

Have to be more clinical in both boxes. Miss to many big chances and concede too many and goals.

Need to put Morecambe to the sword, for confidence.

I disagree it's now or never. I do think if we're sat here in 12 months in a similar situation the owners might well feel that way though.

We do need to. However, Morecambe are fourth bottom. They will be full of grit, fight and determination. Qualities that can get you a long way against the kind of team we are at the moment. I’d settle for any sort of scrambled win.

Basically. " Oxford watched how other sides have stopped us and came out and stopped us" but the little fakers went one further and beat us.

It's almost as if he's shocked that teams don't play the way he thinks

How many times have we heard things like # they set up differently from the start# no sht. Almost like teams try different things.

He's got to wake up and wake up quick that we are not utd. We are not prem standard and we do not and can not have prem standard players at this club in this league. Our style is to technical it trips our own players up.

Keep it simple and play football the league 1 way. Then we have a shot of going up.

a niche perspective

All well and good but Wednesday and Plymouth have to lose at least 3 matches between now and the end of the season (minimum) for us to overhaul them in the automatic places and that is not going to happen. Charlton curse has cost us. 2002 in the PL we were 2-0 spunked a lead and we lost 3-2 went on to get relegated, spunk multiple leads at Charlton in 2022 looks like it will cost us promotion in 2023. I hope I am wrong but I don't see either of the top two losing more than maybe 1 more game this season in a very weak league.

Lg1 is going the same way as the Championship this season - two runaway teams and the rest all scrapping for a play-off place. We have made it easy for Wednesday and gifted them second spot. I’m gutted cos at one point we looked like we could take it away from them.

At one point we were leading the division. The worrying thing is how quickly the results have spiralled. Eventually, that will hit the performances and I'm hoping we didn't see the first sign of that today.

Yep, beating Cambridge on the same day the top 2 play each other means we'll make up a bit of ground on at least one of them, then have the opportunity to consolidate that against Wednesday the following week.

Never like to be too final about things when there's still a lot of games and points to play for but does feel like from now until end of Feb will tell us whether we're contenders for top 2 or not. After that it's Barnsley Bolton and Derby away in quick succession and given they're most likely to be the other teams in the playoffs things will get feral among the fanbase if we don't get much out of that run, especially if we keep faltering up to that point.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Made it easy for Sheffield Wed, yes ! Don't forget though that their manager has made them so rigid in their defence. 16 clean sheets, by far the most in this league whereas our manager is clueless as to how to fix our issues.

They are a tough team, they don't concede silly goals, they have only dropped 4 (FOUR) points from the winning positions while we have dropped 15.

Morecambe have won their last 3 games, in good form currently, they’ll think they have a very good chance of turning us over in our current form.

We have proved time and time again this season that we simply don't have the balls/guts/mentality, whatever you want to call it, to be a promoted side.

Do we all still hope and pray that will change, of course, but feel this lose is defining and probably confirms to most of our fan base that we're not going up. Yes, some will say there are X points to play for, it's nonsence to write it off in January, I suppose only time will tell but auto promotion is done for me.
