Same here. I remember the youth final thing, I was in The Churchmans with the boy. Great evening and a great team. Gareth Bale played for Soton that evening.

I thought his words in that statement were really heartfelt, considered and meaningful. Good luck to him for the future.

It's not about the story itself, which is nice enough, but the general lack of real news on the current team during this period.

And it's not the main story, the signing of the new NZ keeper is the top story!

And this would be below a story that Chambers and Skuse were our new joint managers following their playing contracts ending at Colchester. “Freddie (Sears) is excited to be back and has a lot left in the tank” enthused Marcus Evans in an open letter to fans.

TWTD's main story today is "liam trotter retires" on 11:35 - May 16 with 2335 views | MattinLondon | Almost twenty years on and I still think that his red card against Pompey was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen - and the FA didn’t rescind it. Absolutely scandalous - no way a player for Man U would have been sent off for that. I’m getting angry again. Can’t find it on YouTube but it was an awful decision that really set him back.

I think he was an unused sub, but David McGoldrick among others did play.
TWTD's main story today is "liam trotter retires" on 12:03 - May 16 with 2263 views | Darth_Koont | There’d probably be a lot more big stories if we hadn’t gone up. It’s a rare and beautiful thing to have an off-season where there’s no crisis or at least that the club isn’t in defensive mode. So we’re only eager for news that will be very positive on the whole. It makes a nice change. It’s like looking forward to Christmas as a child again, rather than being a little wary of it as an adult.

Yes! Back then it was a very rare occasion when we were on TV over here. All excited for the game and then it was ruined by the nonsense of a sending off.

I was at the game and thought it ludicrous at the time. Killed the game stone dead and the card wasn’t even overturned.

God I remember a game at PR where Lallana ran rings around us. All the Soton fans were singing, "Adam Lallana makes Messi look sh!te," and I remember thinking that on that display they weren't far wrong.

Just looking at local Ipswich area lads who made substantial football careers, Trotter is well up there. - 333 league apps, which is more than Roger Osborne (by 3), Dyer (by 4) and Titus Bramble 298. Only a couple of locally bred players have made many more apps: Richard Wright 379, Dozzell J 545, and Brian Talbot nearly 600. Other locals with bigger careers are Gary Bailey and Jon Sammels, neither of whom played for Town though. Any I've missed with bigger careers than Liam?

Yeah - the adrenalin rush stuff often rumbles away so long that the actual signing, when it does arrive, can even feel a bit meh, almost as if you feel we've already got him, haven't we? I guess a warm story as in the case of Trotter is sufficiently Town-related to keep the flame alive for many of us, but by no means everyone.
