They were superb live - I nearly died watching them at Cambridge Corn Exchange in 91 when the whole crowd went bonkers (think they started with If I Should Fall From Grace With God). Shane wandered on with a bottle of vodka and joined in as and when. Didn't look like was going to make it to the end of the night, let alone til he was 65.

I only saw him once, playing with The Pogues in a tent at V
I was actually waiting for Ian Brown to come on - and he was sh1te. Pogues were very good.
I think my cousin did some work with him when she was in her band Sons of the Desert.
Edit. Not the American C&W band by the same name.
This one 👍🏼

“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
One of the best frontmen I've seen and of course a fantastic lyricist. Saw The Pogues st the Womad Festival on Mersea Island in 1985, and he was on top form. No doubt a one of a kind.

I once went to see Morrissey at Alexandra Palace years ago (just looked it up - December 1992), and Kirsty MacColl was the support act. She brought Shane on stage to join her in doing Fairytale of New York, and sadly, she had to feed him each line as they went through, as he was well out of it. I never saw The Pogues performing in their own right, so don't know how he was other than that one time.

I absolutely loved Kirsty.
Little known fact - but her useless Dad Ewan wrote some top top tunes - including this one.

Sad news, such a one-off. Incredible he's lasted this long given his excesses. Absolutely love Irish music and the Pogues had some great songs. Love these two especially;
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Usually awesome, if somewhat lacking in diction.

I’m not sure losing your health fighting against addiction is a living a life well.
Significant elements of tragedy.
What a weird thing to say.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
I haven't been this sad about the death of a famous person since Rik Mayall. Can't believe that was 9 years ago now (just googled it). The Pogues were superb and it's a sad day that Shane McGowan has now gone too.
A couple of my favourite Pogues tracks not already posted:

And, bringing it back to The Pogues, this:
He was a folk legend, was lucky enough to see them both perform Fairytale of new York together, Shane could barely stand and had to be led of stage. It was August, all a little surreal. Van Morriston also performed that day the most miserable man alive. Sometime in the early 90s I think.
