Anyone feeling glum or despondant... 10:33 - Jan 20 with 1871 views | NthQldITFC | ...we can agonise about survival points tallies, about our assessments of this player or that player, about value, about recruitment strategy etc., etc., etc., but these assessments are woolly details which swing up and down from week to week. The hard and fast facts are points gained; we sit in the relegation zone on goal difference only at a stage of the season where (more or less) everybody has played everybody else once (actually a bit better for us as we've got City out of the way completely). Any previous season's points tallies are irrelevant now, it's about our performance relative to Everton, Wolves, Leicester, Southampton over the remainder of the season. I would say our squad are still learning and improving and we have excellent team spirit and support (mostly) - three qualities which are strengths for us over those opponents. From this base camp, I make us favourite to stay up.

Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 10:40 - Jan 20 with 1744 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I still feel pretty good tbh. After the defeats to West Ham , Everton and Brentford. I was seriously concerned that we were going to be completely cut adrift at the bottom. But here we are in the relegation zone currently on goal difference. Not where we want to be, but we are in the fight. Get these couple of games out the way as you say. Then time to dig in and see where we end up.

Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 10:42 - Jan 20 with 1728 views | Churchman | Despite detesting losing (at anything), not really. Man City were extraordinary. KDB and co - brilliant players who playing well together as a team were literally light years better. They’d have crushed most teams yesterday. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and be realistic to move on. Plenty to learn for McKenna, players and as a club. I’ve always felt surviving was a tall order and I still do. But the challenge is there for us.
Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 10:45 - Jan 20 with 1721 views | SitfcB | I bet there’s plenty of people out there, including our own fans, that thought we would be rock bottom at this stage like Southampton are. We’ve done bloody well so for all things considered and we won’t give up. Get next week out of the way and then we’ve a massive MUST WIN game against Southampton. Not expecting much at Villa Park, and with how Tottenham and Man Utd are performing right now we have to be looking at getting points from those! Come on Chelsea tonight! Due a big 6-0 win!

Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 10:52 - Jan 20 with 1620 views | jasondozzell | I agree. I actually feel strangely upbeat after yesterday. The game had been over since they scored the second and it was more about how we would react and how the crowd would react. I was proud that we kept trying to play. City can run over anyone like that but we didn't lose our heads despite the goals and the players kept going. It was moving to be part of that roar at the end and the 'Blue Army' in front of the players felt important. It's been a sensational effort just to be in with a chance of staying up and I think we will. For the reasons you outline, I think we have the best chance of those teams. We've held our nerve in the last two seasons and we will hold it again. We're so lucky as supporters to have a manager and team like this. It's worth remembering that if we'd narrowly missed out on the championship play offs 8 months ago it would have still been seen as an excellent season! That we are here in this league and competing is outstanding. All together now to the end. [Post edited 20 Jan 10:53]

Our fans really need to be up for Southampton, make it loud and raucous from the off. Can't just turn up and wait for something to happen.

Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 11:23 - Jan 20 with 1427 views | baxterbasics | It's understandable to feel glum, not just after the 6-0 but that was on the back of an even more disappointing performance Vs Brighton (which I think most seem to agree was the worse result of the two - we expected to get tonked by City, if not quite so heavily...). But in terms of overall prospects for survival, I feel the same as I did about our odds for most of the season: I give us around a 50-50 shot. It feels like it's going to the wire too, we won't know either way until the last game or two.

I certainly never expected we would be on 6 points at this stage, like Southampton are. Points wise, we are probably about where I expected. We are just top of the promoted clubs league, so not really ahead of expectation. I did expect us to be relegated, so anything else would be a bonus.

Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 11:29 - Jan 20 with 1383 views | Bluesky | no, I'm not. We held them for half an hour. Then they rediscovered their class and we were treated to a masterclass that we cannot yet aspire to. But - I saw Walton win a one to one with Haaland. Our new boys showed flashes of class - and forward driving. Jack Clark found some confidence (until THAT pass admittedly). We showed flashes of ball passing as slick as Man C - just not nearly as consistent. I saw great support from the fans - especially at the end. Burgess was strong. Delap punched through a few times. Hirst is moving as fast as he used to now, Cajuste is growing, O'Shea is reliable, Tuanzabe is back.I think we will just hang on this season - then watch this space....

Also, when we were 4 down, we were still playing football and trying to score goals. We didn't go into our shells. City had 17 shots with 9 shots on target, and scored from 6 of them - we had 8 shots with 4 on target. For a team out of form, January looked pretty good for them, with the "blip"at Brentford, who have a great home record. Looking at the shot stats for January, seems Brentford was a blip as City have converted ~70% of their shots on target into goals. vs Brentford, 21 shots, 8 on target and only 2 goals (Brentford; 18 shots, 6 on target, 2 goals) vs Salford, 20 shots, 10 on target , 8 goals (Salford; 10 shot, 2 on target) vs West Ham, 10 shots, 7 on target, 4 goals (West Ham; 17 shots, 4 on target, 1 goal)

Couldn't agree more. Too many throwing their toys out of the pram. Exactly what some fans were expecting I don't know. We have come into a League where even lesser teams have established themselves and where some bigger sides, Tottenham , Man Utd, West Ham and Everton have struggled. Liverpool are top due to consistency which Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea have failed to achieve. But even they have far more expensive players and in the main beat those at the bottom of the League. We have two of three teams to beat being Leicester ,Wolves and Everton. Everton out of the three have installed the better manager and have a very good keeper, that may save them. So we need to get above Leicester and Wolves as I see it. Saints have all but gone so I have left them out of the equation.
Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 13:43 - Jan 20 with 1074 views | CoachRob | Roberto Forzoni, a performance psychologist, gave a talk at one of our coaching meetings about his time at West Ham and that incredible survival in 2006/7. They had 20 points by mid-March and ended up with 41. He talked about mental resilience and setting achievable goals as a team and as individuals. In Kieran McKenna we have a coach/manager who stays very balanced and clearly has great belief in the players, his staff and himself. I genuinely believe, despite the rawness of yesterday, that we can get on a run with the talent in this team. We have to stay humble and have those "honest conversations" when it goes wrong, but always take the positives - Jack Clarke breaking the lines, clever free kick routine, excellent delivery from Johnson on corners, Delap hit the target when presented with the chances, as others have said, we stayed true to our identity even when we were 6-nil down. This is a very exciting team and we have the coaches to get the very best out of them, I'm certainly not throwing the towel in and unlike Luton last year, I think we will get stronger in the final third of the season.
Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 13:49 - Jan 20 with 1042 views | victorysquad | not at all - I think we just need to get this Liverpool game out the way and try and make the best of it. Then we got arguably the toughest games of the season behind us.

We are very unlikely to beat these teams so a loss is a loss. More important we beat the teams around us and learn fromt hese losses and play better against them. It'll be the same on Saturday, I just dont want to lose 9+ nil.

Couldn’t get to the game so I was listening via 5 Live. I was disappointed by the roar at the end, I pictured City in front of their fans taking the applause. How wrong I was, it was our fans openly showing their support and backing for the efforts of the players. As the commentators said, “We know as a team exactly where we are currently”. This was a huge compliment. So proud and we go again….who’s up next?
Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 15:15 - Jan 20 with 850 views | Kropotkin123 | I'm not despondent. But the head dropping against Brighton was concerning. It was the first time I feel the players lost a bit of belief. If at the start of the season someone said you'd be in 18th, but joint on points with 17th at this stage of the season I'd have taken that. I'd have been confident that we'd likely been picking up more points recently than at the start and that we'd generally continue that. But with the heads dropping, or as McKenna put it the goal disproportionately impacting us, I'm more concerned. So I'm definitely with you on the points tally and how I'd expect us to do. The crowd was also excellent against City and we played well until their goal.

Anyone feeling glum or despondant... on 19:29 - Jan 20 with 675 views | Nthsuffolkblue | This time last season the glum ones were ruing the fact we had blown our chances of promotion to this league. Would we rather be fighting to stay in it level on points with survival, or being written off against Sheffield United and Burnley as to who will join Leeds in being promoted? Maybe the latter involves winning more games but I am happy with where we are. I am certainly far happier than where we were 3 years ago ... even if I could get tickets then.
