I can see where he’s coming from. A weird game really, quite even but they decided to gift us a couple of really poor goals and it was game over. I was a bit disappointed with Coventry, they’re in decent form and have picked up under Lampard, I expected more from them but they made life pretty easy for us today.

They didn't really show anything up top. Possession-wise and perhaps in fluidity they were marginally better but they were pretty flat and of fairly poor quality when they got anywhere near our goal. We were on a completely different level to them on that front.

I didn’t see the game (kid #1 in a swimming competition, kid #2 in a music competition) but Lampard’s comments are no different to what Kieran’s being saying all season or what I’ve seen on here. ‘In the game, competitive, it’s just the key moments’, etc. It’s true. Completely took our foot off the gas - we probably had another 2 more levels - it was like watching us against a top premier team. If we get relegated I am actually really looking forwards to games like that again and having the opportunity to see a better starting 11 compete in championship hopefully under McKenna who I believe will stay as part of his plan. | | | |

I don't disagree that Coventry were in the game but defensively and in attack they were pretty awful, so I think the point he's making is nonsense. More than that though, my OP is concerning the quote about analysing the game without the goals! The game of football is about scoring goals, you can't remove goals from analysis of a game of football. McKenna would not make a similar comment at all! He may state that we were in a game or that we matched a team for quality in most of our game but wouldn't make a comment about taking away something from the opposition would mean we were equals. | | | |
