I don't get it. Why would we be in touch with Boro over a fee again? They agreed to our last deal, it was Hackney that caused it to break down?

True perhaps they may not necessarily give us permission to talk at the same price given we are closer to the end of the window.

Either that or a) it's not true or b) the gist of it is true but not the specifics

I think we all expected us to go back for him, as he realised he wasn't getting the PL move he wanted.

I guess it's whether he thinks PL clubs will do something on deadline day as they get desperate or he holds off until January, which isn't normally when PL clubs want untested younger players from the Champ.

I doubt they are going back in without speaking with his agent again first, I would imagine we have been in discussions on and off throughout.

It was always going to happen when the PL interest didn't materialise. Middlesbrough clearly need to sell him.

Updated contract with PL club release clause for XX million for next summer if we are not promoted . . .

Yes, this sounds like someone has got the wrong end of the stick.

Just perhaps they are trying to find ways of getting more money to HH himself to persuade him to move, but it doesn't seem likely does it? It didn't seem from what was reported that financials were behind this .. just that we aren't in the PL and he'd rather stay at Boro if he's going to play in the Championship.

We also dont know what the "turning down" was.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was something along the line of,

"really impressed with the place and would be interested in joining, but I want to see if I can get a prem move, lets put this on hold for now and revisit in a few weeks"

I'd like to try that with We Buy Any Car.
"Yeah, I know we agreed £10k last month, and I've put another 1000 miles on it since then, but I now want £11k".

I'd imagine something like that would be required to get it considered.

Which is the world we are working in with players who should probably be in the PL.

I suppose we're now closer to the window's end – our need is more pressing than it was and they would have less time to use the cash. Presumably some sort of nod from player's side that they'd now be minded to go ahead, if this is true.

Rumour he didn’t like the jet we booked him for his flight down to Stansted.

All the indications I've heard are that he told Boro in no uncertain terms he didn't want to join us. If the change of heart is only because we may be offering an even bigger basic wage, is that someone we really want? I get the feeling that he's a proper northern boy and doesn't really want to up sticks.

They're guessing. They might turn out to be right, but they're still guessing.
As we saw with Wallers and Cajuste, stopped clocks will be right sometimes.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

No idea, every individual's case is different and I think players have sucked up much bigger upheavals before, got on with it and ended up thriving. Without knowing the boy it's hard to tell.

His gut instinct may have been to stay at Boro but maybe just wanted to have a look just to make sure.
For a player of his age and development his next move is a big one.
I don't think there is much to debate. A lot of people have a look at jobs before making a decision.
It's only this age of social media (and incredibly flight radar 24 is now seemingly added as a source!!!!) that we even know about these porential transfers.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

1
Hayden Hackney on 12:39 - Aug 18 with 3362 viewsTRUE_BLUE123

If this is true.

We would not go back in if hackney made it clear he didn't want to come. He would have had to say he was still open to the move just not then, maybe he hasn't had any top flight interest.

FLW is far from reliable though.

From what I heard, it was late change of heart to not join in the first place. It might be that he's since been persuaded but unlikely I'd say based on the below.

https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/what-hayden-hackney-f

I'm not even sure he is what we need personally. A very good player obviously but for the money involved I would like to think we could put an enticing package to Bournemouth/Billing. I think he would be incredible and his physicality is exactly what we need in the middle of the park.

Or we are going at a lower price as we perceived they are desperate for funds before the window closes?!
