Wouldn’t worry too much. If it happens it happens, but we’ve been burnt before with this kind of official def info, so a degree of scepticism is pretty sensible.
On the face of it, he’s got a relatively straight forward, though not necessarily easy, choice to make...
He can stay put with his mates at a club he’s obviously very fond of, in a team who are on a roll, and ride the crest of the wave for as long as he can. Or, take his one likely chance of a decent pay day before he’s 30 (I imagine Tranmere’s purse strings will only stretch so far) and potentially join a club where he is likely to be an instant cult hero (not necessarily us, he just seems that sort) and maybe have a better crack at playing at a higher level.
Of course, if he chooses the latter, he then needs to decide where he’s going, I’d be surprised if he only has one suitor. For me, there are too many ifs, buts and maybes for too much excitement just yet.
I suspect he’s going to go away with the Tranmere lads and the club will lay it on thick trying to play to his emotions (I would).

If town go in for him he will come. Careers are short and families need to be taken care of. Tranmere won't be able to match other clubs in wages.

If it was Ollie Norwood a striker of his ilk I'd get it, but he's a massive step down on what we used to consider a decent signing. People keep going on about Vardy, but the guy is 28 and has to make a massive step up here.
You can see Lambert fancies him as his Holt and Judge his Hoolahan, but there's a lot of work around the squad needs doing to get him the service required, regardless of how good he is or isn't.

I imagine the decision will be a difficult one, but he's run his contract down and now in a position where he can get a big signing on fee and £5k a week from us.
He's only ever signed deals in non-league football in reality, and will have earned a few hundred quid a week at most through his career - his heart may say stay but his head will see him move unless Tranmere throw a bucketload of cash at him, which under the sensible Palios as owner is unlikely. |  |
