Saw Ned’s Atomic Dustbin supporting Pop Will Eat Itself at Leeds Uni; but they were unannounced special guests doing a warm up for their new tour.

Probably my favourite support was Seefeel opening for Spiritualised sometime around 95. Or The Cranes opening for The Cure in 92.

Like you I tend to be smaller gigs or festivals.

On that basis I'd either go for Midlake supported by John Grant and Jason Lyttle, which was just magnificent, or I'll go back to the early 90s and Metallica supported by Megadeth.

Wasnt Nick Cash a former member of Kilburn? He went on to form 999 who were my favourite punk band back in the day.

Big Country supporting David Bowie at Wembley in June 1987. This was the infamous Glass Spider tour & Bowie played such an absolute stinker that the Dagenham Girl Pipers would have looked good in comparison. Only time I saw Bowie.

He may well have performed with them at The Baths Hall, by that time they were on their third drummer (David Newton-Rohoman) so when both him and Ian Dury came on stage using crutches it raised eyebrows. Nick Cash appears to have been their second lead guitarist, the band disbanded the next year.
