Why is everyone so against Mike Ashley taking over ITFC? on 22:14 - May 25 by monytowbray
If it happens I won't be supporting ITFC again until he's gone.
I'll be in a minority and it will kill a part of my soul to make that choice, but any good moment for the club would feel tainted under his leadership.
If I even saw that pr1ck on the pitch at Portman Road I think my p1ss would boil.
You've not actually answered any of the points I've made though.

1) He could.
2) He does.
3) How does one morally and ethically dubious owner taking over from another improve things?
4) It's Mike Ashley ffs. We are the club of Robson. He'd be turning in his grave.
I know things are at an all time low, but Ashley is not the answer. He's not Ipswich enough. It's a hard thing to quantify, but he's not.

I'll refer you to my response to Spruce.
I did answer Dollers I just guess you're working your way through the other replies.

He is a crook. He manipulates laws to delay publishing accounts. He treats his staff like dogs and takes full advantage of them. That’s just the start. I would not want him anywhere near us and it goes against everything we should stand for as club.
These are good answers, thanks. Better than all the knee-jerk nonsense. At least this gives me some valid reasons I can understand.

I understand why it would be tempting fwiw.
But we have so little dignity left that this scrap is, to me, worth clinging on to.

I can sort of see your point, at least in terms of a direct comparison between the two. At worst it’s out with a publicity shy owner with a background of dubious practices and underfunding the team, and replacing him with a more public one with a background of dubious business practices and underfunding the team he owned
However, I think the idea is that if Evans ever does sell up, hopefully it’ll be to someone that is actually a marked improvement
Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

How far are we 'morally and ethically ... down the river'?
Is there much evidence that we don't treat our players and staff reasonably well? We do fulfil our obligation to look after the injured, even beyond the end of contracts. We run a well-regarded Academy. Players may leave for more money or game-time, but we don't get ugly public battles trying to force them out or to stay.
Disputes with creditors seem to get settled before actually ending up in court (that we hear about).
Generally speaking, the club's vote has been on the right side of issues in recent years (FFP, Youth matters).

Newcastle have been relegated twice under his ownership, which in their case is probably the equivalent to us going down to League One
It's not equivalent at all. Newcastle have been bouncing about between the top and second tiers for pretty much all their history. This is the first time we have been at these depths in 62 years.
I half agree to a point, his company is terrible though for working conditions etc - but then I'm sure ITFC fans would welcome a Godolphin takeover and their record makes Mike Ashley look like a saint.
If we were to be taken over my initial thought would be worry rather than excitement - at least we know with Evans that he pays the bills every month and isn't going anywhere. There are so many fly by nights and sharks looking at clubs at this level that we could be a lot worse off.
Ashley is a known quantity to that effect, he may be hapless like Evans at times, but at least he is there and doing the right thing. I could see it happening

It's ok, he's got pots of money (made off the back of those people he employs on the minimum possible conditions with borderline illegal welfare practices). But that's fine if he can pay Toto £5m a year.
And he has taken so much money out of Newcastle too, plus almost every manager never has a good word to say about him

Mike Ashley has a proven record of really not giving a sh!t what anyone says or thinks. If 50,000 Geordies baying for his blood every week holds no influence or weight then our meek, mild mannered lot have no chance. I don't think he'd give a damn about 'the Ipswich way' as he runs his businesses/interests without much sentiment.
If he is genuinely interested in a club then I could see us being a prime target. He likes a previously well loved brand that is now in the gutter and possibly available on the cheap.

I was just going to say, they other way of looking at this is to forget all his baggage around Sports Direct (he is no worse than some in that regard), and instead just ask Newcastle fans how they feel about him. And then think if we would like to feel the same in a couple of years.

I wasn't talking about the club itself. Lot's of people have spoken about the ethics of what Marcus Evans business is all about, I just wondered what's so bad about Ashley's in that regard.
