My company sent an e mail yesterday saying that they’d pay people who got caught in Spain during their quarantine as it all happened so quickly but going forward won’t happen again ... hence no one going to risk booking now ...

Good to see McDonald's looking after their work force.

Are you suggesting everyone should still be simply staying at home then?

No, it's significantly more nuanced than that.
It's also significantly more nuanced than the message that is being currently delivered.

I think to a degree the government have since acknowledged this with their talk of "local lockdowns" unfortunately it's still not really fit for purpose, but I don't see a scenario that's workable where they implement the best option for public safety.

Unless the poster in question actually does work for McDonald's, is there really any need for your post?

Culture Sec is actively encouraging people to book holidays. That has to be irresponsible, shirley? And it's easy for him to say, as he won't be losing any salary if quarantine is brought in.

Reported in Guardian, but from o BBC interview this morning:

“But as long as people are aware of that risk [quarantine being introduced] they should continue to book holidays, but just bear in mind that this may happen, and sadly it has happened in Spain,” he told BBC Breakfast.

Shock - government minister unaware that, if you book a trip to anywhere that is subject to a FO travel advisory, your travel insurance is invalid, not just the Covid bits but the whole policy... So, it's highly inadvisable......

The poster in question does not work for McDonalds. It’s a lazy joke based upon his prejudices of McDonalds workers and his view that I am a bit thick. Rise above it and all that

Horrendous. Nobody should have to alter what they want to do for fear of ignorance.

I know I can be a dïck on here. But with everything that's been going on lately it really grinds my gears to see someone, who is at best ignorant of what is going on and at worst quietly supportive of it, trying to weasel out of owning what was said in an attempt to fly under the radar as a reasonable poster.

There are some lovely people on this forum. They deserve better than that.

Anyhow, off to bed. I'll either wake to plaudits, pelters or tumbleweed I guess!

It’s 1608, I’ve been working since midnight.

I’ve just finished.

You’re right. TWTD has got some absolutely wonderful people that frequent it. Also some that used to frequent it.

There are many opinions that I don’t agree with, I’ve even told you when I don’t agree with you. I doubt there are many people on here who I wouldn’t get on with.

Certainly there are some TWTDers that are like family to me. Not in the Ulla sense of family.

That was after pages and pages of arguing about context.

Sorry Paz, Johnson is a racist. I cannot condone racism of any kind. I certainly wouldn’t be able to vote for his party either.

I’d never accuse someone of being racist without them actually displaying overt racist opinions, like BoJo for instance.

I don’t really read too much on here these days. I’m too tired from working at the moment. Those burgers won’t flip themselves!

I’ve not got much to say about his post. That’s his opinion and he’s entitled to it. I don’t necessarily agree with it but I respect his opinion. I respond to you and not him because it’s you that is saying I’m not a reasonable poster and are encouraging others not to engage with me, he’s not saying that.

1) Going by your own words and your posting history you aren't a reasonable poster. You've been a cheerleader for some pretty dark words and actions.

2) People are free to talk to you as they wish (although it seems like I'm the only person doing so currently). I just didn't want to see you try and wriggle out of your past words and actions with this newly invented persona. Some of us have long memories, memories that we don't mind sharing with others who may have missed key pieces of information.

As I have had my say now, I'll leave you in peace to try on a few Speedos for your holiday. Adios.

I don’t have a newly invested persona and I stand by the vast majority of what I’ve ever posted on here. Where I’ve crossed the line on a small number of occasions I have apologised to those in question.

2 quick points.

Absolutely I dont see normality anytime soon. By which I mean this or even next year. We need either a vaccine or for the virus to run it's course, nothing else would lead us back to how we were pre virus.

But some time, maybe 5 motnhs, maybe 5 years, the virus will be in the past. The Spanish flu (which wasnt Spanish) killed incredible numbers (% wise) of populations when the world didnt really understand transmission. Yet the world did recover, did move on.

Not to minimise the devestating impact and the danger of second waves. But one day we will be througn this. It may be some time away but diseases run their course. And the sounds around possible vaccines sound encouraging.

As are the 1000s of selfless people happy to volunteer to be guinnea pigs for the vaccine. Usually people take a vaccine and they compare rates of infections after a few months, Because of the impact of CV people are volunteering to take the vaccine and be exposed to CV to see of it works. So we can test the vaccine much faster they are willing to risk infedtion.

The world is full of good people Libby, appreciate the news is full of sh1t ones. Always worth trying to remember that if you can :-)

I’ve put my name down for vaccine trials, I’d rather risk infection and whatever that may bring than live in this socially-distanced, masked-up hell any longer.

As for holidays abroad, I can’t see the thrill as the rules will be the same or stricter there, just seems like a slightly warmer but equally miserable experience to shopping in Tesco.
