He's talking about himself, clearly.
Ah yes, the one who denied austerity existed, has took no issue to continual service cuts and welfare, died on a hill defending evident prioritising of the economy over lives during a pandemic, turned a blind eye to cronyism and spread MAGA lies about civil rights protests.

Where do I tick the box?
And that's only covers the last ten years!

Yep. Imagine defending and enabling all that and thinking handing back membership when they piggybacked on DUP support as if that showed true moral character.

Where are these “Good” Tories? Are they the ones running away rather to holding to account what they’ve enabled? Or the ones continually being outvoted on basic human rights and decency in the house?
Maybe they're the ones that the Dear Leader slung out in 2019 and replaced with intellectual pygmies and Quitlings whose only qualification for cabinet is blind loyalty to him rather than any actual competence or skills? Who knows....

I've worked with some in the past. It's really hard to stand out though, as decent individuals still have to follow the whip so their voting record looks awful and they're beaten with that stick.
They definitely purged some decent, relatively sensible and experienced ones though. Clarke, Grieve, Gauke, Stewart, Hammond, etc. Relative intellectual titans compared to most in the current cabinet.

I'm no Thatcherite but there is not a SINGLE ONE of the current mob who would ever have got a sniff of a look in in one of her cabinets. Not a single one. Shows how far the party's sunk...

I suppose I would like to ask them why they choose to belong to party that forces them to constantly vote against what they truly believe in?
How many times can you be forced to vote against what you claim to believe in and still think "Yep! This is the party for me!"?

Chico is very fond of using the expression "it upsets the right type of people". In this case it couldn't be further from the truth. Because I wouldn't class you as anything other than a balanced and decent poster.
If the copy and paste of a satirical piece from the Speccie upset and offended you the you have my unreserved apology. It wasn't my intention.
This thread had evolved into a discussion on how the Labour party had drifted away from it's traditional working class roots. How the recent leadership had given the impression that his priorities lay more with the people of the West Bank than they did with the people from West Bromwich. How the working class are a great disappointment to the chin stroking chattering classes who just don't 'get them' any more.
I thought the speccie piece summed up a typical middle class lefty like Emily Thornberry who had shown her contempt for the patriotic working classes during the 2015 general election. Or Sprucey, who has spent his entire time on here sneering at working class people who don't share his progressive and enlightened views. Branding them as thick ignorant racists. Not educated enough to deserve a vote.
Again, I'm sorry that my post missed it's mark and caused offence.
Is Paz working class?

Does it matter? GB just makes up any old sh!te when he's posting. Truth is a foreign land to the bloke.
Just a skim read of the latter parts of the post you replied to revels that it's full of smears and lies - it's the invention of an active but seemingly bored imagination. The guy needs a hobby, and making stuff up about fellow posters doesn't count, and neither does keeping a TWTD spreadsheet of imagined insults that dates back to 1994!

I see the former shadow Justice Secretary hasn't quite figured out that to win an election, you need to gain votes from people who have previously voted for their opponents.

Biden managed it tbf. Trump's vote went up but Biden managed to win by getting out new voters, some young, some previously non voters.
So it's not impossible, although obviously a lot easier if you can convert Tories to your cause.

Biden still had former Trump voters switch to him. Turnout was far higher than in 2016, hence both of the two parties scored ore votes.
The Tories won a majority in 2019 by getting former Labour voters. Blair won his landslide in 1997 by getting voters from people who had previously voted Tory.
That is how majorities are won in this country with our PPTP system.
Good quote from Burgon re: New New Labour’s flag-shagging:
“This is symptomatic of a strategy which goes chasing votes from groups who already have their own party — the Conservative party,” he said. “You end up with the worst of both worlds losing the support you have already got and not gaining new supporters in sufficient numbers.”
Clive Lewis (who has also been on fire at filling the oppositional void in recent times) puts it into context. TLDR? If you’re going to use the flag make sure it’s a flag the country can be proud of, openly and honestly, warts and all, not just those who buy into the exceptionalist fairytale of Empire, 2 World Wars and 1 World Cup.

And we haven’t even started on how tone-deaf this is with the people who want to leave the Union behind.

I’m staggered ‘zionism is the enemy of peace’ (then lied about it) Burgon is still in the Labour Party to be honest, let alone enlightening us with his views.

Quite.
Black voters won the election for Biden in a handful of key states. Trump voters switching to Biden in Georgia did not win Georgia for Biden.
An aggressive ground game registering unregistered Black voters and getting them to turn out on the day was the key. Example - Voter registration increased in Fulton and Gwinnett counties by 40%. Biden didn't get their votes by trying to act like a tasteful Trump.

Yeah that wasn’t good. Still, with the fervour of the witch-hunt I understand his need to lie.
He didn’t say anything wrong because Zionism in the super-charged, supremacist, political and fundamentalist form it’s developed into is the enemy of peace IMO. If we were just talking about normal Zionism focusing on Israel’s right to exist and be a haven for Jewish people then it would sound crazy.
But then if that was all modern Zionism was about we wouldn’t have the illegal occupation and oppression of the Palestinians. Peace my @rse.

You should listen more. He’s not perfect (who is) but he has an opinion more valid and based on real concerns than most.
He’s also one of the few voices of social justice and equality that have been lacking in our public debate. And to our obvious detriment.
But just talking electoral politics here, he’s not wrong, is he?
Yes he is wrong. Of course you have to satisfy your core vote through economic policy too, but sneering at "flag shaggers" and telling them to vote Tory is wrong and completely at odds with the realities of electoral politics. Trump found out you can't win just by appeasing your base.
It's quite simple; Labour not winning back old voters = Labour not winning elections.

Maybe Labour should concentrate on winning voters full stop? There’s nothing there.
