The US deal - apologies if this has been done, I've not been on the board much 14:07 - Mar 3 with 2383 viewsThisIsMyUsername

So however many police officers and firefighters have been risking their lives and saving up their pension for X years, to find that it is now all going to be gambled to buy an unknown third division English football club.

Is that correct? You'd be furious.

Poll: Which of these events will happen the soonest?

It doesn't work like that.

It's a drop in the ocean.

Pension funds are often invested in all kinds of things most people don't know/care about.

You'd not be furious.

I can't see this being structured in any way other than the pension fund acting as a lender and getting a guaranteed return regardless of our performance.

Truly impaired.

Fair enough!

Massive increase in merchandise revenue for the club when they all start wearing their ITFC-branded police caps and fire helmets.

Scarves!!

Brett is a massive fan of a scarf. So much so I had a dream (honestly) about our players coming out of the tunnel on match day all wearing ITFC scarves and then throwing them to the crowd.

I'm dreaming about it!!

If the pension fund thing is legit I’m keen to see how certain people on here with avowed Defund the Police beliefs will reconcile them with supporting Ipswich.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Who on here has defund the police beliefs?

Think in the main, a lot of posters simply want the police to be better and less racist (obviously the vast majority of police are not at all racist but in the past probably a lot were).

I'm for reallocating funding so that unarmed social services are better equipped to deal with mental health, addiction and homelessness issues and armed police are inserted into fewer situations where their cultural limitations result in them shooting first and asking questions later.

But that view doesn't really help further Chico's big fanny 'gotcha' moment I suppose.

surely taking their money is defunding them?

I imagine a private police force would still have a pension fund.

The defund the police comment did come across as somewhat silly.

The UK gov - PPF (think the largest pension fund in the UK) investments were in property mostly but also have shares in companies that have gone in to administration and have been saved to protect the pension fund.

It's likely the US pension fund will mostly be low risk investments like property and then this will be a small higher risk investment.

whats going to be invested into ITFC is peanuts to value of the pension funds. ITFC is high risk investment given our current position but with high rewards if all goes well.
Most pension funds invest small percentage into high risk investments which can be offset by the larger slower returning investments if all goes wrong.

I suspect the new company set up by our four new owners will be borrowing money from the pension fund rather than the fund directly investing.

That’s not how it works Pal

I have a pension plan administered by a company and they invest my money in schemes that are either low medium or high risk. That could be any company on earth.
If I don’t like they companies they invest in I can choose to move to a difference scheme , but these investments change almost daily if not weekly

They are lending the money to someone who will use it to buy ITFC. So while the new owners will buy a club that is debt free the loan will be charged to the club so we will no longer be debt free but we will owe a lot less than we did to Marcus Evans.
