Assume you are, or you wouldn’t have asked. I am not a royalist at all, and I have no particular fondness for MM, but I just find it stunning that an interview with a female discussing her mental health, dark thoughts, and horrendous rumblings, coupled with the Royal Family’s drive mentality yesterday to close ranks, is being largely ignored because “they wanted privacy”. She is a human, a mother, someone with feelings. To be clear - I don’t have any love for PH or MM, but you add in the Diana parts, it’s just so unsavoury. The Royal Family are poison and a throwback to a time that reflects very badly on us. IMO of course - I know it won’t be for everyone and there will be downvotes!

The royal family will just be silent about this. Harry and Meghan wanted privacy, they have moved to America, done podcasts, signed a deal with Netflix and done an interview with Oprah. These are not the actions of people who want privacy. Edit - I hadn't actually read some of the revelations in the interview before posting the above. They are right to speak out against these. The royals will remain silent on these but they are damning. [Post edited 8 Mar 2021 10:13]

I keep reading this and I think there is a pretty massive difference between choosing to be interviewed by someone you know (so in this case Oprah) vs. tabloids publishing private letters you sent to your family, being tailed by the press etc. There is a middle ground, I don't think they ever wanted to become hermits.

People in Britain can be as appalled as they wish about the couple's nauseating behaviour, but we have to remember that they're now professional celebrities geared to the American market & the yanks seem to lap up this stuff.

The institution will always protect themselves rather than admit it's own weaknesses. It demands respect and that we doth our cap, or it is nothing. And the cap dothing masses will happily bleat away about H&M seeking publicity etc. rather than actually listen to what they had to say. Far easier to bury your head in the sand rather than listen to real insights into the Royals which might challenge life held support for the monarchy.

This. Being able to control your exposure to media does not mean you want to live as a recluse. Some people seem to think Harry is their property. Tough titties, he's his own man and can do as he pleases.

Yes the primary role of the monarchy is to preserve the monarchy. Hence their behaviour towards people who threaten that such as Harry and of course his mother.

The saddest thing of all is that this episode will reveal the extent to which so many plebs who have been historically economically shafted by the Royal family and their class allies as well as regularly used as cannon fodder in their expansionist dreams, will fall over themselves to defend their Lords and masters! #owned

The Harry and Meghan ‘interview’ aired here tonight on 08:07 - Mar 8 by mikeybloo88 | They must really hate the Royal family to do this hatchet job on them...I'm trying hard to understand what their gain from this is other than commercial, so from that point of view the more incendiary they made it the better for them. Theyve been quite clever though and made their accusations rather vague which of course will keep the speculation pot boiling much longer. No matter how true you think any of these claims are, and personally I think there's plenty of reason not to swallow it all as gospel as I'm sure the Yanks will, this really should not have been done in the manner or at the time it has been. They know that the Crown does not comment on internal matters so no one is going to be on the record to give the other side to the story. Private Eyes royal correspondent ‘flunked’ should be a damn good read next week! Love to hear what Lambeth palace have to say to the revelation that the Archbishop of Canterbury had already married them in private before the televised wedding if Brenda didn’t know about that I expect a call has already been placed for the Archbishop to explain this to his boss!

While the decision itself to exclude themselves from ‘Royal Life’ in search of being themselves must have been a difficult decision, particularly for Prince Harry, equally the decision to then talk about it with Oprah and James Corden will be seen as somewhat inappropriate. Hardly the right way to start your new life of relative anonymity.

The Harry and Meghan ‘interview’ aired here tonight on 08:44 - Mar 8 with 2182 views | tractordownsouth | At the end of the day, I think there are a bigger issues in the world. Accusations of the royal family's racism should be investigated, as should Meghan Markle's alleged bullying. However, I'd personally much rather be scrutinising the government for sh1tting on nurses and cutting aid to Yemen than worrying about a family drama between a rich old couple in London and a rich young couple in California

I really don't like the way they make a claim about racism and then won't say who it was. This sort of approach just smears it everywhere and leads to rumours. If someone has been racist, call them out properly !

Does the 'middle ground' not effectively entail not doing something like this though? SIgn Netflix an Spotify deals, look forwards rather than backwards, focus on what they can do in the future, flat bat questions re royal family etc. etc......no need to be a hermit. BUT..............a 2 hour tell all interview, where a succession of claims being made against an institution isn't just going to go quietly into the night - it's pouring petrol onto the fire and will result in a reaction. If they want to disassociate then do, it isn't an argument with your missus or your mate, they can't have the last word then walk away or shut the door.....this does more damage than anything, and they are either being badly advised, are so wrapped up in themselves that they don't get it, or don't want the privacy from the media

The McPherson principle established that “a racist incident is any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person”. So not only should a victim of perceived racism speak out, but an investigation into those claims should be carried out.

I expect they feel harshly done by and wanted to get their side of the story out by talking about it with someone they trust. Whether it's badly advised or not, my point was that the privacy invasions they were talking about (which everyone is giving them stick for) are because of the relentlessness of the British media in regards to the Royals. I don't think they ever wanted to fully disassociate, that's not the impression I got although I know little about it.
