Seems there is still lots of talk of an expectation of top 6 this season. Not a majority but a selection of posters and of course those on other social platforms.
But its amazing really because if you go through the posts. We clearly have a shocking squad.
These below are comments you see a fair bit.
Holy.... cant move cant get down. Dont command area
Chambers to slow. Cant defend. Cant attack
Toto.. mistake waiting to happen. Cant pass
Downes.. attitude. Red card waiting to happen
Dozzell... tries the Gerrard pass. Not strong enough.
Bishop.. cant tackle. Doesnt work hard enough. Diesnt score
Edward's... slow. Cant take on his man crap crossing
Bennetts.. no end product. Runs into trouble. Crap
Judge... what version. Done nothing for 2 years
Jackson.. doesnt score. Average. Bad attitude
Norwood... average. Injury prone. Needs to many chances
Parrott... not a goalscorer. Lacks composure. Not ours
Skuse. To old past it. Slow.
Ward.. slow. To old. Past it
Etc etc
If we go with the above. Then it would be a great effort by PC to get us finishing in top 2. |  |

I think the play offs are very realistic. There's going to be a big hangover from Lambert though. He has clearly crushed the confidence of the team.
It's not a free hit for Cook but the minimum requirement is some clear progression. Doesn't have to be play offs. Just give us a solid base for next season as a minimum. A crack at the play offs would be fantastic. Top 2 would be incredible but is so unlikely that he won't lose any points on that one. |  |

It is usually a case that people hold one or two of those exaggerated comments. So on that basis, no.
Getting us in the top two would be incredible because of how badly they have been managed/coached and how far off we are in purely numerical terms.
play-offs looks like a realistic target and the top two looks like an unrealistic target. Both should still be targeted whilst they are open to us though. |  |

'The players aren't good enough' is Lambert's last and greatest lie. We had premier league and Championship sides interested in our players last summer despite finishing nowhere.

The aim now has to be comfortably making the play-offs and see where we go from there. We have a very nice run in and teams above us will carry on dropping points. Peterborough in particular have a really difficult set of remaining fixtures. A lot can change in a week at the moment with games coming thick and fast. | | | |

The playoffs should be achievable with this squad but PC has got minimal time to rebuild their confidence and adopt a clear style of play between now and the end of the season. For me, he should be judged on the changes we see in the players style and attitude more than anything else. It’s a really tough job to come into given how the teams been managed previously and the stacked up fixture list ahead of us. I’ve got full faith in PC but by no means should it be seen as a massive failure on his part if he doesn’t manage to get us up this year. | | | |

Tho that is rather a distillation of all the negative comments about all our players from every source.
However, if you look at the fact we have managed to remain in striking range of the play-off places despite poor form, a slew of injuries and some not very effective management with precisely that group of players, it would suggest that they are comparitively not that bad up against the rest of the division. |  |

Whatever happens, I think you reserve judgement on Cook until after a pre-season and a transfer window. That's the standard he asked to be judged by and that's perfectly fair.
That said, given that Lambert was widely regarded to be a lousy tactician, not much of a coach and even less of a motivator, I'd be surprised if we don't improve at least a little between now and the end of the season. Given what we thought about Paul Hurst, Lambert's inability to improve on his efforts should've been a massive red flag and it'll be something of a concern if Cook's had as little impact as his predecessor. |  |

The first 20 minutes of yesterday’s match was wonderful to watch - far moving football combined with a press which flustered Plymouth completely. It’s something we haven’t seen for a long time and it was great to see.
We then dropped off for ten minutes. It peeved me at time but looking back rather than being in the moment it was obvious that we would not be able to maintain that intensity and, indeed, we were taking a breather. We started the press and pass again around the thirty minute mark and we’re starting to look good once again when Downes went off. From that moment our control of the match fell away.
In three matches I can see what Cook is trying to do and there are signs of it being implemented. The lynchpin in midfield is so important, however, and without that kind of player in there it’s going to be tough to role it out. | |

Top two isn’t really realistic. Cook is trying to impose his style on this squad of players. High press, a more attacking style. Likes flair players. That could be tough for this current squad to adapt to. But nonetheless we have a fighting chance of the play offs and then it’s a lottery. | | | |

I don’t ‘expect’ anything from this season. Paul Cook has brought back the excitement and enjoyment for me, under Lambert I was really losing love with it.
Might be a low bar, but just bringing that back is enough for me this season. We’re in the mix and there’s a slight chance we’ll be in the play-off’s, I’m excited to see how it plays out.
Our fans tend to rate our players from one extreme to another in the space of a couple of games. We’re in League One, this squad SHOULD be good enough to compete, I don’t know what players people expect in a League One team.

When at our best, we've shown we are too good for most of the teams in this division. Even when not at our best we've often shown we're too good for most teams in this division. I've always said any manager worth his salt should get this squad up from this division. However, Cook only has a limited amount of time to change a lot of bad habits and attitudes, so I'm not putting undue pressure on him to get us up this year. | |
