Greatest ever European footballer? 13:07 - Mar 24 with 3981 views | itfcjoe | Probably between Cryuff and C.Ronaldo for me.... I'd edge towards Cryuff because of how important he has been to the game. Interesting to see the next 2 big superstars in Haaaland and Mbappe are European, rather than South American

Beckenbauer . He would have been just as good in modern football as he was in his prime.

Greatest ever European footballer? on 14:40 - Mar 24 by rickw | Talking of other positions, I think the best team who I've seen would be something like this: ____________Neuer Lahm___Ramos__Terry___Maldini _______Keane____Xavi Messi_______Zidane____C.Ronaldo ___________Ronaldo Oh - including non Europeans there! |
Surely Franco Baresi is ahead of all of your back four?

Greatest ever European footballer? on 13:14 - Mar 24 by JakeITFC | Cristiano by some distance in my lifetime. |
The thing with Cristiano is that he always turns up in the big games. Carried Portugal to 2 Euro finals (winning one). Scored in Champions League finals. In his last season at Man Utd pretty much carried them (that freekick Vs Porto). And excelled in 3 different leagues. Seeing Zidane in the flesh Vs England was memerable (though I was more excited when Kieron came on as sub and almost scored)

Greatest ever European footballer? on 16:17 - Mar 24 with 1590 views | Churchman | 3rd place: Cryuff. Just brilliant. I shall bung in the great Eusebio for my runner up medal. What a player and a gentleman too. But the greatest ever European footballer: George Best. Possibly the best player the world has ever seen. 179 goals from 470 appearances for United in 11 years, top scorer five straight years. Two footed, could play any position. I believe in one game for a bet he played all of it using just one foot and was still the best player on the pitch. In his prime, he was unplayable despite every team in those days having animals trying to bury him. I rest my case. [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 22:45]

I only remember Baresi when he was old and passed his prime. Don't dismiss Terry and Keane - both were leaders, who played at the top for a long time, winning Champions Leagues and many Premier League titles. (I'm only judging them on how they played!)

I'm not sure about Terry, I think there's a reasonable argument that he's the fourth most talented English centre-half of his generation behind Campbell, Ferdinand and King.
| I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton |

Greatest ever European footballer? on 09:05 - Mar 25 with 1349 views | You_Bloo_Right | I'm sure it must just be an age thing but no mention of Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Johnny Giles. Perhaps not the "greatest ever"? Greaves, though, was perhaps the most prolific and natural goal scorer I ever saw play. Yes different era, different game perhaps but nevertheless.

Was he? Didn't hear that said about him, but Moore was something else. Not many centre backs were so comfortable on the ball back then, bringing the ball forwards into the opposing half, taking on players. He even used to take free kicks!
