Anyone getting the feeling this squad rebuilding isn’t quite going to plan? (n on 23:16 - Jun 16 by pointofblue

I guess the problem is the dead cat bounce, a bounce where not only did we get good results but, Accrington aside, put in decent performances as well. What happened for us to fall apart so utterly and completely, so quickly as well? Do I personally think Cook, publicly, went about it the right way? Do I think him losing it so quickly benefited the club? No - very similar to Hurst post Exeter (which I was pleased about at the time rather than seeing the impact it had). That’s not to say the players are guilt free, just that Cook is not completely innocent. That’s not to say he isn’t the best man for the job, especially if the revamp brings in our top targets.

And the lack of assistant manager concerns me. I feel Richardson was maybe a calming influence on Cook who managed to curb his more excitable excesses. Without him we need someone else who Cook can vent to and bounce ideas off as, at the end of last season, all he had was a reporter’s microphone.

I think that is something to take to,, PC hates speaking to the press, always has done, loves an update but never did post match interviews, always got leam to do them. I think this didn't help. You could tell very easily he tripped himself up a fair bit after the game. Wouldn't surpise me to see Roberts or jeffers doing them next season. I do agree, PC isn't blameless I just don't feel going forwards it's fair to see certain things coming out without any foundations to them " Dobra told to stay away from the club" etc. Last season is done, Yes he upset some favourites, yes he is letting some favourites go. But we literally have no coice but to believe in what's being done so I personally don't see the benefits in some of the horror stories being thrown out which do nothing but create further negative thoughts ( Not based on anything you've said btw)

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Honestly this sounds like you used to agree with him so he was level headed then but now you don't so he's "very negative".

Which doesn't actually seem to reflect any of the stuff he's posted. Like some of us, he's just a little more cautious.

Cheers Dan, I find it hard to believe that I am less level headed than when I was a rabid lambert Outer just a few months ago and couldn't stick the man and what he was doing to our club!

I think the “get out of our club” comment is going to haunt you for a while Joe, even though I fully understand how comments can be made in the heat of the moment as I’ve done it myself.

That isn't what I said though, and I've rowed back from that position which I've said was emotional and out of frustration. But for clarity I said:

So Cook has told Downes, Dozzell, Dobra, Woolfenden & Lankester they can find a new club at knockdown prices?

If/when it happens the club is just making the same mistake as it always does - letting a new manager rip it up and then we’ll regret it long term when they fail.

How about Paul Cook finds a new club instead? This reign is going to be a disaster, you can just see it.

The club has spent years and years developing these boys, they understand the club and what it is about - you can’t just discard that and then try to start again.

I still agree with the general thrust of what I posted, that by ripping that part of the club out, by a manager who has been here 5 minutes, is the wrong approach.

Wolves managed to completely rebuild their squad over a summer and really took off. I don't think they were all there by mid-June.

You're just bent out of shape now most of your slacker mates have been shipped out and you're no longer the ITK bod you used to be.

I've literally said in the post there that I've rowed back from the position as it was borne out of frustration and an emotional reaction, about 6 weeks ago - it clearly was negative, and clearly wasn't level headed.

But it's hardly like I've continued to post in that manner, or to talk in that manner on BM podcast etc - I woke up, read the articles and fired of a couple of tweets. Should be noted that those tweets had support from those in the academy, plus players and their relatives who messaged me afterwards agreeing.

Its called a new start Joe.

The club was rotten to the core....you know it too.

I don't have an issue with every aspect being ripped up and started again. Joe look where we are, League one for a third season! Do you really have an issue with anything being ripped up? I certainly don't. At at least they are trying. Out with the old, in with the new and I'm glad its as drastic as it is!

Hard decisions get made, decisions we may not like, but we have to accept this and give it a chance because the club was literally dying. They won't get every decision right b

Give this a chance, it really cannot be worse than anything we have endured in the last 10-15 years!

Tweets about not letting Academy prospects go being supported by Academy players and their families. There's a surprise.

That post is just bang out of order - you clearly are an utter bellend. You can go onto ignore with a few others as this board becomes harder and harder to use. I've noticed all your snidey remarks in recent days - least you've actually come out and said something now.

I'm getting as much 'ITK' stuff sent to me as I ever have been from all the people I speak to as I'm sure someone like Phil would be able to confirm as speak to him semi-regularly about bits.

I just don't trust what I'm hearing and am posting less about it as none of it seems to tally up, and has subsequently proven to be the case

Interesting take on it, personally don't see how you can question a managers first game in charge, which funnily enough we'd have drawn had it not been for 2 individual errors by the supreme sears. ( Who is no longer here ) but each to their own of course

It wasn't the first time certain players have not appreciated a direct approach, thankfullly those players are no longer here. Of course some may remain, but the main ones have gone already.

I agree on the coaching side to an extent, GK Coach and Jeffers I accept due to their experiences, but Roberts and Cranie? I just don't understand. I guess it will just be something we have to trust but I wouldn't mind seeing someone else come in, Im not a fan of no assistant manager, I think he's leaving it open for Leam incase it doesn't work at Wigan, otherwise I don't understand him leaving it free.

I’d be careful with the assumption that Richardson would leave Wigan before Cook leaves us. Richardson was appointed by their current owners, Cook wasn’t.

I personally don't think it was rotten, it was just massively underfunded and understaffed - there were/are good people in there trying their best on and off the pitch without the support required. Think that came clear from Skuse and Chambers exit interviews with regards to filling roles left by Milton and the like.

It was the right time for a rebuild this summer, undoubtedly, just think it could have been done in a better way with regards to nott aking options on players who aren't good enough, and not p155ing off everyone with time to run on their deals who we intended to sell.

Baby out with the bathwater for me

I dont really see that tbh

If PC wasnt on the new owners short list at all they could have very easily binned him off this summer in the same way new managers changes coaching teams etc.

The difference for me between leam and PC is of course 1 has been there and done that whilst the other has watched from behind the manager. Granted great work keeping wigan up but hes now in that dangerous ground of building his own side which always sounds easier than it is for some. We will see. But the no Assistant Mnagaer thing is interesting

Don't you think taking the options on player contracts is potentially savvy in so much as the market is dead? Player trading/exchanges will be par for the course this summer you would imagine. Having the likes of Donacien, Nsiala and Jackson to use as straight swaps or makeweights will surely save us money in the long run?

I think there is an argument for Jackson, but can you really see the others being used in the summer when there are more freebies than ever and wages have been depressed?

Rotten is probably too strong, but the morale around the place (non footballing staff) was at a very low ebb. As you say years of under funding and a general feeling of maliase was causing general apathy around the whole club.

I've said this before, thank christ people like Chambers and Skuse tried to keep the professionalism at a level we all expect, even if they were p1ssing in the wind, dread to think if they hadn't kept up standards where we would be...

But for me, the complete overhaul and reset was desperately needed, again, I think it could have been handled better with the releasing of players, but we have new owners and whether you like it or not, sentiment goes out of the window.

I'm kinda in the middle, happy we have a structure, happy we have people wanting us to succeed, the right people in the right roles, but I'm waiting until the end of the summer before I pass judgement, because all we can go on right now is words.

If ever a player on that list was going to be used as a makeweight surely it would have been Donacien to Fleetwood. I think the Club might have made an error in his case and Toto’s.

I am also here. Very hard to get excited about a squad rebuild when it hasn't happened yet and I've not seen any of the players we're bringing in play for us.

I am more excited about the fact that off the pitch we seem to be getting our shít together.

I think Nsiala and Donacien are both competent enough League 1 defenders that they could be used to trade with other sides in our league - not the Championship, obviously.

I hold out hope that Jackson can be used in some way to bring Colby Bishop to the club.

Not particularly. We may have missed out on players, we may not, but no club is going to sign every one if its targets, it doesn't work like that. You have to put a few prospect in the top of the hopper to get one out down the bottom.

It's a bit like waiting for a bus, you wait ages for one and then 2 or 3 will rock up in very quick succession.

As we sit here today we've still got our #1 keeper (albeit hopefully we can upgrade), we've got a fit KVY, Woolfy, Nolan, Harper imminent, Downes, Evans, Bishop, Burns, Dobra, El Miz, Norwood, Jackson. We've got rid of a lot of the dross we needed to that were eating up some punchy salaries, and no doubt more of those will 100% move on, but we can do that as and when we have the replacements. There are certainly gaps, especially defensively, but it's not panic stations. See where we're at in 3 or 4 weeks I say, I would wager we'll have a fair few more in by then.
