Clearly it just depends on what you mean when you say, 'big club'. We're not Man Utd or Barcelona obviously. We're not just below that level like say Villa or Leeds either. Well yes - Town are and always have been anything other a ‘big club’. For a brief moment in time they have been a small town club punching considerably above their weight due largely to a charismatic chairman and two long departed managers.

Size of fanbase, budget, hiring power, stadium, facilities, reputation, history - most importantly, realistic potential and ambitions. In all of those aspects, ITFC is a big club.
Clubs of arguably no greater "size" are currently in the Prem. Nobody would be surprised if, in a season or two, Ipswich were at the upper end of the Championship, challenging for promotion. With the greatest of respect, would anyone say the same of Accrington, Burton or Cheltenham? Would people consider Sunderland or Sheffield Wednesday to no longer be "big clubs", because they've found themselves in the third tier?

They have been good in the past but never ‘big’. It would help their current position as slightly above average third division trundlers no end if all these ‘big club’ delusions were dropped and people recognised Town as a small Town football club that used to be good a very long time ago.

I posted a while back that I hate the talk of being a big club. I get why it's said but I still think it's done the opposite of giving players the boost when it's sung about by the directors or the manager etc.
