Couple of weeks ago my partner seen a job she liked the look of in London. The thought of moving from Leitrim back to London had me terrified. Then I pointed out to her that 'all Brits hate foreigners and I'm not sure your legally allowed to work there anymore'. And everything is OK again. If theres another referendum I'm voting leave next time so I never have this panic again.

"what brexit benefits...?" You don't seem to have understood the question. Or the impact this ridiculous decision has had on many people's lives either.

Doesn't bare thinking about. I know a few lads living back in Ireland now who left places like Mayo, Sligo an Leitrim for London in the 90,s while in there late teens an early 20,s. Must have been a incredible culture shock

They can't do it on the EU parts because of the Common Fisheries Policy. So far that is the only genuine benefit of Brexit that I have been able to find.

Come on a pint tastes so much better in a glass with a crown on it. Even better if the glass has a handle.

Brits hating foreigners? I don’t think so. Although there are plenty of idiots as there are in all countries, by and large that’s not my experience. A couple of years ago I worked with a French chap who was gf’d/married to an English woman. We were working for HMG on a cross government project and he’d risen to a decent grade. We were having coffee one day and he said in his best ‘allo allo’ accent ‘do you know, its amazing that I’m able to work here. If you applied for a job in the French Civil Service, if you got a response it would be no. Go away (polite version)’. ‘French jobs, French people’. As far as people from ROI, CTA pre-dates the EU and this wa# reaffirmed 3 years ago. Irish people have the right to live and work here and technically visa versa. Guidance attached. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/common-travel-area-guidance [Post edited 20 Jun 2022 17:44]

In my experience the French people hate the EU by and large but tolerate it for economic reasons. Same with the Greeks.

Funnily enough that was about where I was in 2016 and was the primary reason for me voting remain. Economics, jobs. ONS trade data for April is interesting: https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/nationalaccounts/balanceofpayments/bulletins/uktr ‘EU exports have increased for the third consecutive month in April 2022 and are at the highest levels since records began.’ I’ve not read up yet on why and what’s underneath the figures or even if the figures are correct - or whether the way data was collected pre-Brexit was on the same basis. But it’s interesting.
