Typical populist nonsense from Ashton. He may be an effective CEO, but some of his public persona is cringeworthy.

I think we should invade! Landing craft, tanks, aircraft. Start with obliterating Norwich and advance towards Sheringham swinging round to Kings Lynn. Encirclement. Hurrah! I know it’s all about the first team n all that, but I do think this stuff is really important. Far better than Evans’ rear end in the air if it saves a few bob approach.

I disagree with that entirely. He has identified a problem, that we are losing our talented local youngsters to a near neighbour and has said he plans to do something about it. He was completely polite about it, a world of difference from Simon Clegg and his "small club to the North" comment, which didn't age well.

What are your plans for Muckleburgh? Lots of armour to contend with there. Just cut them off and lay siege?

It’ll take time to undo all of the damage Marcus Evans and his inept generals did but hopefully Ashton can do just that.

It's absolutely fine. We need to be puffing our chests out and acting like the biggest club in the region — or at least one that wants to be.

Strange that this is only now being reported in the press - it's almost 2 weeks since it was said. He made the comments at the fixtures release event on Thursday 23rd, in the context of the rebranding of the ITFC Community trust to the ITFC Foundation, and how that would help regain areas that had been let slip to Norwich coming in and setting up schools work etc. The aim is to re-establish the links to the schools and reaching further for ITFC through the Foundation.

Exactly. The budgies have taken advantage of Evans' taking his eye off the ball by not just spreading their academy recruitment over the border areas like Diss and Bungay but right into the heart of Ipswich itself. We shouldn't have stood for it then, and we certainly shouldn't now.

Nonsense. Evans scrapping of our community scheme, to save cash has allowed Nodge to push into our catchment area and scoop up any kids of note. He's exactly right in what he says.

This is what Evans did for the club. Not only a total disaster but also making us totally inferior to them.

Norwich has expanded rapidly throughout the region, it's not just Suffolk, they are all over Essex and Cambs too, they have all the best young players in the region that Spurs/Arsenal/West Ham haven't picked up. Ipswich has lagged behind for years due to Evans's total mismanagement of the club, and frankly lack of care.

To be fair, the community side of things has little to do with losing local talent. These school schemes aren't about finding the best players for academies, more about a presence and getting an early connection with kids.

Interesting theory by Ashton. Thinking we can take over the patch yet still refusing to see how cat 1 differs to cat 2.. you can't really compete with another local academy if it's at a higher level than yours.. so not really sure what his plan is.
