So Andy Warren reports in EADT its discussions with Dijon that are the issue but Phil hears it is all good with Dijon and Celina terms the issue. What's the truth as some on here critical of Celina that he doesn't really want to be here choosing Stoke and Turkish club over us. If the reality is it's Dijon we aren't even an option Celina could pick at the moment.

But isn't this season another loan anyway. So regardless he would get the same salary?
Also this short career stuff.. I'd get it if they were getting just over minimum wage. But half a mill a year he's been getting. He's already set for life. It's not like there aren't jobs he could do after finishing football. That BTW isn't just about celina really as its something that's said across the sport... but it's a strange one for me. Lingard for example. Short career poor bloke how's he gonna cope if his career stopped next season.... his 2.4mill over 12 months will help im sure. Lol.

If he remains at Dijon, he presumably picks up the salary as agreed in his Dijon contract. So yeah, it seems weird that there's any "negotiations" to be had with Santi at all.
If he only comes here as a very last resort, then I'd rather he doesn't join. Its just not a good sign.
We have Chaplin, Aluko, Jackson and Harness amongst others who can play in the roles off the striker.
We are not last resort, just not willing to pay as much.
Let’s say for argument's sake the most we are willing to pay is 10k per week, and other sides will go to 15k per week, would you really expect someone to give up 260k per year?
I love Ipswich but personally if I was in Celinas position I wouldn’t take a huge wage cut to join when he willing clubs who will pay that much.

That's what I'm confused about.
If it's terms for 23/24. Just negotiate it then.. works for him better as by then he'd be able to choose other UK clubs by that point if he wanted to.
I've seen that some have been knocking Celina but remember it was him that wanted to play for Town and asked not to be selected for his country which has now made it impossible to go on loan to another English side, but his future needs to be sorted soon and I wish him well wherever he ends up.

He only wants to be here on his terms and is forgetting that he will be putting himself in the shop window for a move as his contract wind's down at Dijon.
Far too inconsistent for any team in a higher league.

We still want him, I know that. Obviously there will be other options under consideration if for any reason we don't get him, as there would be with any player, but he's the one we want and are hope to get.
I can see a chant being suggested here.... ooh ooh oh

So essentially you're saying that someone with a specific skill which is required by a market should take a lower wage because you want them to apply that skill to an organisation you are involved with.
Will you be applying that mindset to your own future jobs and roles?

Yet teams in a higher leagues have already attempted to sign him this transfer window.
This inconsistency rubbish really needs to stop, it's the stupidest narrative on here at the moment as the stats posted by itfcjoe showed.

The Visa situation would still be the same in 12 months time, I think? Playing internationally for Kosovo is worth very few visa points, he only qualified last time because he was playing in Ligue 1.
If they are negotiating terms in the event of a transfer option being taken up in a years time that I can see how that might get pretty complicated...

I wouldn't go to Turkey to play in front of 1,500 fans.
Stoke or Rangers I could understand.
To be fair, we have no idea what the financials are, but as he is under contract already, I cant see him losing out greatly.

"He's already set for life."
Not really. Unless he lives on his half a mill a year as if he was earning £35k or whatever, and saves/invests the rest. That would be sensible and I'm sure some people do that, but it's fantastical to imagine that's the norm.
Not to say footballers can't get other jobs after their playing career of course, but that's another argument.
He chose a small club in Turkey with no fans over us.
Thats fair enough, but doesnt suggest hes that keen.
I’m with you on this MM. somethings not adding up for me - and presumably not for him either!
That said, thinking about it, I’m not sure how it can be about money because if he’s on a contract with Dijon then presumably they have to honour that. So, even if he goes out on loan his wages stay the same - it’s just a question of of how much they pay and how much the loan club plays.
But that doesn’t seem to be what Phil is saying. I’ve got covid so maybe my little mind is more easily confused than normal!

Are we looking to play with three number 10s?! Three out and out strikers, one a kid loanee. Feels like we're unbalanced (if Celina signs)....

It’s not for me to doubt KM, but personally I’m thinking the same as you. We have Chaplin, Aluko and presumably Harness who can all play number 10. If we sign Celina I’ll be interested to see where he fits in. Currently id rather we prioritised Hirst.

Footballers are ultimately just choosing employers. Like all of us they might decide they like a particular employer - their co-workers, the place, their manager, the customers, the work they do - but it's still just an employer. You might forego some money because you like your employer but it's not going to be unconditional.
The loyalty some fans expect isn't reciprocal either. It's not like anyone is camping outside Portman Road demanding we re-sign Macauley Bonne.

Aluko never plays 2 games in a week and generally only played 60 minutes when he did play, he can't be relied upon as a regular starter

Agreed. Though imo if you can get Celina, and in L1, you gotta do it. Just feels a bit like like overload with Harness innit? Let's see. I'm not too interested in transfer season, can only judge it once a few competitive games are under the belt.
