So Andy Warren reports in EADT its discussions with Dijon that are the issue but Phil hears it is all good with Dijon and Celina terms the issue. What's the truth as some on here critical of Celina that he doesn't really want to be here choosing Stoke and Turkish club over us. That's true but seeing it from his point of view, if any of us were offered £15k a week by one employer or £10k a week from another where would you go. |
I'd weigh up the long term as well. He's had a career already as a well-paid travelling gun-for-hire and maybe if he'd accept our offer (which would still be sizeable) he could finally get a home and a base to improve his career. Maybe he needs to work under a coach like McKenna to work on the weaker areas of his game. These lucrative contracts might dry up pretty quickly if he's after a quick buck and he'll get a reputation as a bit of a mercenary. If I was him.... I'd factor in the next few years and where he wants to take his career and Town is at least a serious option where we want to build something. | | | |

We are well covered and he's a luxury. Every week this drags on it cost Dijon another £x that we've saved. Why not just chill out? This can cost Dijon another month's wages if they aren't careful. I'm sure Ashton is happy to play the long game here. Maybe Celina is as well? |  |

I do wonder what value you place on him having a proper pre-season and being match fit and on the books from day 1 though. It's clearly far from ideal and we had this same scenario last summer, albeit exacerbated by his COVID issues. You'd imagine we aren't miles apart on terms and I hope something gives in the next few days. | | | |

Not sure it's necessary. He knows most of the players. He's going to be keeping fit.
If we brought him in around mid August he would hopefully have the second round of the league cup and a pizza cup game to get match fit. As well as with 5 subs he could be eased back to full fitness.
Hopefully, like you say, it won't come to that but if it does, I don't think there is much to worry about. [Post edited 22 Jul 2022 18:17]

Although it could be frustrating to the plan of having everyone in early, it's not impossible we see Celina come in for £10k a week at the end of August, when we were being asked to pay £15k a week in July.
If so, that's £500,000 saved. Not far off what Harness has cost.
Exactly the sort of reason we have a limit. Turkey has fallen through, Rangers signed Lawrence so may not be that interested anyway, no other English club can take him. Sure there may be other clubs interested who can, but given that Celina is likely not full fit anyway and may need to be brought up to speed over a number of weeks, even if signed today, having him later could effectively mean we are able to offer that extra money to land a Davis or Hirst. |
It's only my opinion. But I think Celina would be far more flexible with his personal terms when /if it comes to sitting across the table with Ipswich.
Dijon are the ones offering him elsewhere to try and get the best deal their end. Which is expected, from their own business perspective, I guess..
