"An away match funded by Burton"?

I didn't realise they paid our players' wages for that week, their travel, meals and accommodation too.

I trust that idiot puts his money where his mouth is and refuses to take any cut of the proceeds whenever Accrington play away from home!

Is he obsessed with ITFC or does he Tweet rubbish like this about other sides too?

What is this guys problem?
I bought the ifollow for the game.
Should I write an apology?

Please do.

Say you feel sorry for him, you wish your money had gone directly to Accrington so you could watch more of Ben Hamer (or whoever their version of him was) wiping a football with a towel for 90 minutes and you really do hope his club doesn't go bust (again).

I bet he will reply too.

Somebody tweeted him the statistic knowing full well how he would respond.

I can appreciate the argument more when the away section has empty seats and people are watching the feed instead. Then again, for me, the best thing for football across the board would be to decrease the split of prize money between each league position and each division.

But I'd say that's also the argument that advocates of pay per view TV football put forward for years - that it would be fairer if you could sell TV rights per fixture with the bulk of the money going to the big draws, rather than distributed amongst everyone.

TV has had the technology to do such things for decades, but the leagues chose to organise their media rights collectively instead and could vote to organise their streaming rights in the same way. I think it'd be fair and consistent if they did, even if I don't see the present system as especially unfair (just fair in a different way!).

The current arrangement might also have some consequences down the line. If the 3pm blackout goes and if the big Premier League decide they want similar exclusive rights to revenue from streaming their games then it has the potential to blow up English football finance entirely.

Indeed

Of course, I’m sure that if the PL were to move to a model where individual clubs sell their own rights, and if we ultimately end up being successful enough to get ourselves there, that those saying Holt is blubbing in this thread definitely won’t be blubbing about the big clubs having an even bigger revenue gap than they do now, no sir

His comments make no sense, when the away end is sold out...
It's up to the home side to capitalise, commercially, on the extra numbers at their ground. On the day/night of the match..
All I'm hearing from Holt is, "we should get a share of your fan base".
Our club have spent a lot of time, effort, and money, in an effort to get more fans engaged in the club. Why should other clubs reap the rewards, from our investments?
For example.. Fan's forum, Ashton interviews, Community Trust, Pack Out Portman RD, investments around the stadium/fan zone/big screen, etc.. Ashton has done a great job in trying to create a buzz around ITFC, which, in turn, has brought new fans and returning old fans, back into the fold.... Why should Holt or anyone else, benefit, from all those efforts made by ITFC..?

"You're selling something you don't own." says Andy Holt.

One could argue that we are selling exactly what we own - good football.

Would we sell so many iFollow tickets if we were playing crapball? Hardly think so. How mamy iFollow tickets were we selling under MM or final days of Lambert? Would be interesting to compare.

These tickets are sold through ITFC stream to ITFC fans who want to watch ITFC play. It's not like we are selling it to other clubs fans so he can complain. And as someone said we sellout the away end anyway so... It's not our fault we have great fanbase. Or is it? A conundrum at the end...

I assume he won’t want many of us at his place then when we play them! What a numpty. When Stanley get as big us us maybe they will have as many wanting iplayer - but presumably he won’t allow it!

When we get town TV, will away games be available or will those be supplied by ifollow?

This bloke has a real problem with Ipswich Town. No idea why. He should be grieving about all the big clubs in Accrington’s vicinity hoovering up his fan base rather than a club 250 miles away.

He of course described Morsy as a ‘sh1thouse’ when we played them up there last season so I guess lingering dislike is the main factor. Basically, Holt is a bit of a tool.

Shared gate receipts were of course crucial in our success in the Robson era and before, but those days are never going to come back.

I’ve already commented on this thread.

Having thought about it some more, if he really wants an argument he needs to start at the top. Go and speak to the EPL chairpeople and see how much time they give him then laugh. Taking a bit of a share of the digital rights at L1 level for clubs trying to cut a living is the thin end of the wedge.

To be fair, he got baited into this response by Town fans and (I wasn’t aware until Phil kindly shared it) he has approached the EPL about it directly too.

I don’t particularly like the guy or the way he does things (see Morsy last year) but you could also say he’s passionate about his club and (on this issue) fighting to keep smaller clubs alive.

He should save his energy for doing that directly with the EPL and not get drawn into this stuff, in my opinion, as he comes across as a bit of whiner on Twitter otherwise.

We sold out our away ticket allocation. I would understand his argument more if it was cannibalising ticket sales, but it clearly didn't.

Bit rich that an owner of a club that averaged 220 away fans last season is talking about this. It's probably loss making for clubs to host and police their fans.

Club maybe should charge them the whole away end 2,000 time £25? If we can’t stream? £50k

Proceeds split equally as per the TV deal. I actually don't disagree with him and I think it's a fair argument that Burton put on a game the other night and yet receive nothing from 5,000 or so who paid to watch that event.

Realistically though, aside from the equipment, surely it's not a massive cost to host the online stream?

I agree with him.

I hope it doesn't come in until we're back in a league with more equal clubs but I do think it's fair.

Works both ways though. We won't get a penny from all the Burton fans streaming the reverse fixture, nor indeed from the Stanley faithful streaming the game when they come to FPR.

I saw that Accrington had around 150 fans at Stadium MK at the weekend.

Would be interesting to see how much it must cost clubs to open up a stand, pay for caterers, stewards, police, first aiders etc for just a handful of away fans against the money they make.

Maybe Andy Holt can pay for any losses made to the home club, after all, they are being "hosted" ......

Appreciate that but I think as much as anything it's the principle and the longer-term concern is that TV deals will go the same way. It just makes the richer clubs richer.
