4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 13:40 - Sep 1 by xrayspecs | Gibbs was out of contract before Ashton arrived at Town iirc. |
He was out of contract at the end of the month MA joined and the matter had dragged on since the previous October with Town having done very little to come to an agreement until it was getting too late and clubs from higher divisions had shown interest. Harsh to see it as the fault of the new regime as was a lot happening at the time and an 18-year-old's contract was probably a fair way down the list.

4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 13:43 - Sep 1 by Marshalls_Mullet | ...the question is, why? Did he do enough? |
That I don't know, but what he went to Colchester for was to play regular senior football, which was what he needed. He'd probably have played almost as much if he'd stayed here.

4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 12:52 - Sep 1 by NthQldITFC | I think we've done really well on this deal. If we've got a decent fee in the order of £500k for a player who I'm far from convinced will make it at Championship level, and we've got a decent sell-on percentage as well, just in case, then I think it's a great bit of business. If it funds Ahadme as well, who looks pretty good from the bits of video I've seen, it's brilliant. |
If we'd left him at Swindon scoring goals we may have got more...

What a bizarre post from an Ipswich "fan" It's almost as if some people are desperate for the club to fail or to be able to prove a point against other fans. Strange

4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 13:10 - Sep 1 by Jimmy86 | Well clearly the club didn't value him as much as he valued himself I'm guessing? I think Ashton and the new owners have certainly got more right than they have wrong, thus far. I still think if he was good enough, he would have had more opportunities here |
I think they're getting it horribly wrong when it comes to academy players. See Gibbs, Simpson and soon to be Chirewa. Only takes one of these players to succeed to have really kicked us in the teeth

That, for me, is one the dafter aspects of the whole affair. If the club didn't rate Simpson then fair enough, that's a subjective judgement and they might well turn out to be right. But if that were the case I cannot for the life of me see the point in making him return to the squad in January. Leave him playing football somewhere and he has the opportunity to prove himself further and add to his value. Maybe he changes your mind about him, maybe he puts another few quid on his value, maybe he tails off and becomes more realistic about how much work he needs to do to get on in football. What upside were we hoping for after recalling him?

The only thing I can think of is that KM wanted to have a look at him maybe? But otherwise, its hard to argue with that. Maybe we were hoping to get a deal tied down and then send him to a lower league 1 side.
4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 13:59 - Sep 1 with 731 views | Sawtrich | I think it's a shame it has happened like this but don't think either side has done anything other than make a hard nosed business decision. ITFC have got a decent fee for someone that wouldn't have been playing first team football and Simpson has got himself a much better contract. Unfortunate for the lad that he wasted half a season of his career to get to this point but football can be a tough business. Easy to forget it's actual real people we're dealing with.

4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 13:32 - Sep 1 by Marshalls_Mullet | Does Clive have def info? Bit of an unfair comparison using his current wage as a reference rather than what was on offer. All seems like conjecture at present. From the outset it seemed to have been handled badly by the club, let's hope Ashton learns from this and Gibbs. |

Contract expires next June, now considered unlikely to sign the new deal offered to him and likely to move on (West Ham showed some interest in May).

4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 13:19 - Sep 1 by PhilTWTD | At the same time, if that were to be the case, which would actually surprise me, to be honest, it's not great to keep selling players for six-figure or low seven-figure fees then see them move on from the next club for £5m - £10m a year or so on with us picking up a small percentage. |
Not a big fan Phil? Think he's one where with the right coaching he could end up being a decent player. It's a big if though, he's very raw needs some refinement.

You may well prove to be right, he's more unschooled than most having been primarily a rugby player until relatively recently. He has pace and power and has always scored goals. Think he'll make a career in football but whether he goes higher than he is now, that would surprise me.

1st touch is loose, i have to say. Reminds me of a budget Lukaku. Sometimes though those players who haven't been in the academy system end up doing well as they aren't your archetype academy player.
4 year contract for Simpson at a Championship club.... on 15:00 - Sep 1 with 588 views | Vaughan8 | Well the agent has done well for him money wise for the near future. As others have said, only time will tell. No-one will know how it could have turned out here. Is he going to get infront of Rhodes and Ward? Only if he starts scoring. We will see. However the club have done well to get £500k for a player who has had a couple of decent months in League 2.
