How much does a football game effect you now? 08:38 - Jan 17 with 5161 viewsPippin1970

I'll be miffed for that day but then think we will win next game lol. I know some fans takes days. Being middle aged helps as other priorities in life.

jeez, lighten up

You're telling others up lighten up when you don't speak to your family for an evening because we drew a game of football?

That's quite something.

When I was a young adult and had little else in my life, I would be annoyed the whole weekend.

As I've got older, as well as learning to deal with the disappointment which is fairly regular, football has got less importance in my life.

Obviously big games it may linger on a bit, but we've not had many of those over the last 10 years.

I’m alright by the following morning.

This is me.

I'll stew on a bad result/performance for the evening, very much to varying degrees depending on the circumstances, but I'm good the next day. And by stew I'm not really in a bad mood, it just bothers me.

This is probably a good thing though, in terms of getting our club back, as there was a 10 year period where I barely gave a toss, win lose or draw.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

On the 2 1/2 hour drive back after Saturday, I was quite philosophical - we had seen a really good game, we didn't lose, there are lots of games to go all that sort of thinking. My son (25) however was just silent. Definitely middle age helps to put things in context more.

Depends which game tbh.

After Charlton this season it genuinely took me a few days to recover. As did the Norwich away game with Klose in the last min.

But aside from those two, normally fine by the time i get home.

Same. Charlton away took me days. Still pi55es me off now, tbh.

Plymouth is still grating.

Most of the time I'm good to go, but my wife sometimes thinks I'm being grumpy with her, when I'm holding onto something about the game. Charlton is the obvious one, where my brain needed a bit of time to process and I was giving shorter answers than normal, which she could easily pick up on. This can be up to an hour and doesn't happen often.

I've never been one to through my toys out of the pram. I've been brought up to support the team, not expect something from it.

Am my mid 40s, so am more philosophical about it now, but this is turning into one of those seasons like 2009/10 or 2017/18 where the late blows keep coming and while I saw Sheffield Wednesday as unsurprising, Charlton as a freak and Fleetwood as a shame, Saturday's finish knocked the optimism out of me. So much so, that I spent most of Saturday evening in a slightly manic state, as though there were plenty of other things to do rather than stew on the football. This worked well, but meant I couldn't get to sleep on Saturday night.

I started going to matches as a 10 year old in 1970. From then until into my 30's, a bad performance or result would completely feck up the rest of the weekend?midweek. My son is nearly 23 and he's a bit like my old self.
Nowadays, i'm more inclined to put things into perspective, open a bottle of red and be more relaxed about it, though will occasionally still have my moments.

This is the same as me.

I remember especially as a kid it would be like someone dying if we lost - thankfully we never lost many back then.

I remember once when I was about 15 I went to America with parents to visit family friends and this coincided with us playing Liverpool away. I was there for three weeks and never knew the score which ruined my holiday, I could think of nothing else. When we visited the Queen Mary ship some old scouse women saw my ITFC shirt and bellowed out "We beat you" and that was game over as far as my trip was concerned.

Turns out in the end it was 1-1 and Bob Paisley said after the game that Steve McCall was destined to win 100 caps.

“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.” Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.

saturday night i barely spoke to anyone in the house, miserable as fck.
this ran into sunday, up to about lunch time.

then thought i'd moved on until people at work asked about the game yesterday, and i felt pissed off again.

really did prove to me, that no matter what my life situation, the thing that makes me truly happy is an itfc win.

Good mate, true supporters feel like this, especially with late goals where it's taken away from you...

I walked into work on Monday and the guys I work with were already talking about their results(West Ham, Chelsea, Posh - playing that night)....as I approached they said "morning" ...to which I simply replied "I don't wanna talk about it".........moments later I couldn't hold back my frustration and started to bloody talk about it!!

Late goals really get to me....probably because I just know it's going to happen..

If I've won the SIL game I've played that afternoon, I barely care how Town have got on. Playing>>>watching.

I cared more in my high school years when I was going every week, but even then once I got home for my dinner I was chipper as ever.

People are saying middle ages and stuff but honestly by the time you're an adult it's a bit sad if you can't talk to people out of anger because a football team you have no impact on the outcome of their results has lost.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

I’m embarrassed to admit that even though I know it shouldn’t, a late goal against us that costs us a win will always spoil Saturday night for me, & to some extent, Sunday too.
If were well beaten, I find that easier to take.
KM post match comments can be soothing though, and I always remind myself that it is so much better than it’s been for probably near to 10 years. That said, I was livid post Charlton and Lincoln.

I’ll be honest now there’s hope and some progression the passion is certainly returning and will take me several hours and even in the next day to get over some of these injury time goals we have been conceding. Back in the Mick Mac days I was over the game before it had even started.

I’m middle aged and I’m worse now than ever!

It definitely makes or breaks my Saturday night. Charlton took a few days.

But that’s because I care again nowadays. We’re in a title/promotion race and there is so much riding on it. I’m happy that I’m so invested again after years of feeling numb. But I’m happy that I don’t have a sense of entitlement that we should be romping the league. The points dropped must really effect those people.

Lose to “ them”, don’t bother to speak to me for a week- literally.

Now, Lose a game ( we really should have won), I’m pretty low for 24-48 hrs then I “ recover”……

I'm 52 now, and I'm still miffed about the Plymouth result, and feel pretty negative about our chances of automatic promotion. I clearly need to grow up, but as far as the Towen are concerned I never will.

To be honest that was a tough one for the 13 year old me. I don’t think we got any less than we deserved than we deserved but in hindsight if somehow we’d have gone up,John Duncan (RIP) would probably have never managed us, and who knows what else may have happened!
