Think that's why some have said they'll be some suprising signings in some positions not really thought of as needing additions. It's fine to play well at league 1 level. But championship is indeed a different level and will need better players. Which positions aren't quite clear and it's difficult to say as you don't want to belittle a side who's just won promotion.. but is it a team that can hold its own week in week out in the championship at present.. not sure.

Personally, I think the team that finished the season as our strongest, if everyone still here, incl Hirst, would definitely hold its own in the championship. Making the difference between holding our own and challenging at the top would need one or two additions of strength. I don’t think we’re far off, as I think we would go head to head against for example, Sunderland even as we are and feel there’d not be much in it, and they made the playoffs.

Thing is, I don't think the owners or management want a team which can just hold its own in the Championship. They want one which can actually be pushing for promotion. Premier League is the aim and they will be prepared to put in the resources to achieve that. Tho wholesale changes to a tight-knit squad will require the investment - chiefly of time - in rebuilding that cohesiveness which has been such a powerful weapon for us, boosting interplay and fluidity in attack.

Yep, stronger Championship next season, I'm pretty sure — the target for us must be to keep getting better and trust that, eventually, it takes us where we want to be. But anyone feeling miffed at a mid-table finish would probably need a reality check at this point.

People do seem to be building themselves up to the idea that momentum will carry us to the playoffs. I hope they aren't disappointed if that doesn't happen. A bit like Ashton said in one of his interviews, I'm fine as long as we show progression each season for the moment.

Yes, the expectation that we're going to challenge straightaway is on one level good but on another potentially quite problematic if — as is perfectly possible — we have to spend a sometimes awkward season finding our feet. Patience and understanding will be needed.

I don’t think we will buy players that don’t fit the current model, so I don’t expect wholesale changes. We played two championship teams last year. A mediocre one which we beat easily, and the runaway winners of the league where we certainly held our own.

While mid-table would be by no means a poor performance following promotion, it was interesting to note that Jason Dozzell and James Scowcroft, who both watch a lot of Championship football, for family and scouting reasons respectively, both said on Life's a Pitch that Town ought to be good enough to be towards the top end next season.

Agreed. Some optimistic views of how we’ll fair next season on TWTD. Sunderland were without 4 or 5 key players last night, including their captain. Yes they’ll lose Diallo. But they’ll give us a good game next season, and their crowd is back on board. Add in Saints, Leeds and Leicester, then the likes of Millwall, Blackburn and West Brom. Boro, Coventry and/or Luton The list goes on I do feel Town are going to strengthen, we have a great manager, but this will be a step up. Wigan struggled.

That would be ridiculous, did the board expect to get promoted as 5th best side in L1 and go straight through the Championship to the PL? I think they did amazingly well to reach the playoffs while playing really good football. This should give them a platform to push on from not start again with a new manager.

….3 or 4 key positions (primarily the spine) and we should be looking for a top 10 finish as s minimum and seriously pushing for the play offs. I’ve not seen a lot in the Championship that worries me too much. Whilst the levels of passion shown last night were high, the standard of football was generally poor. As I’ve said previously, I think the level of change/investment will surprise a few of us this summer.

To sack him would be nuts. To go from L1 last year to the play offs has to be seen as a successful season. They did have the 2nd highest net transfer spend in the league (about £5.5m, after Norwich who’s net balance was double that) but had to try and bolster a L1 side. There’s no reason why they can’t use this season a platform to push on next year. They’ve got the manager to do well and that’s one of the hardest roles to fill.

I assumed most teams these days were trying to play football to get out of the championship. It will be interesting to see how we do against them if they don't go up.

Was interesting to see Luton overwhelm Sunderland with their more physical approach. I don't think there'll be anything other than an aim for the top six next season, whether that's said publicly or otherwise. There is an opportunity there with the Championship not as strong as it has been in the past.

And they're perfectly valid in that view IMO. Accusations of people getting 'carried away' for thinking we can challenge the top 6 next season are a little ridiculous. We're certainly of a standard and have sufficient backing for that to be a reality.

Yeah, I think we should be a bit more confident of having a play-off shout next season. As much as anything because we’re a much better side than Sunderland were when they went up. They looked fairly average for the most part but just had the nous/knack/mental edge to get past teams. Which we successfully added to our team over the last third of the campaign but with a higher ceiling it seems. I won’t be upset with mid-table either if it looks like we’re not quite ready and need to get to a new level.

To be clear, I certainly think we can challenge but I wouldn't be at all disappointed in a mid table finish if it were to happen.

His messaging did sound like they need a lot more investment in the side, if they're expected to go again, next season. Imo. Such a massive prize, getting out of that division, guess it can cloud the judgement of some owners when it comes to hiring and firing managers. If they've been within touching distance of promotion. Looking at both Luton and Sunderland. You'd have to say that both those sides benefi from hostile home support. We need to make Portman Rd a nightmare for away teams... Whilst it's sobering listening to Mogga, listing the sides in next year's Champ, that will be in the mix. I do think KMs approach is to concentrate on "us". Impose our own game on the division.Keep it simple, and don't fill our heads with what Tom, Dick and Harry are up to. I'm expecting us to improve the side and be in the play off hunt. Which, as we've seen this season in The Champ. There's a fare bit of room for the odd stumble, hover in mid table, before putting something together in the final push..I think we will be well capable of that kind of season. If not better, if things go better than expected, early season..... I'm very confident in our manager, and the backing he'll be given by GC.. But I'm not expecting it to be easy. It will take big performances, hard work and sensible heads out there. One game at a time.
