Following that Man City thread who as Town fans should/do we hold grudges against?

Obviously Clive ******* ***** welsh **** Thomas
Lazio for the attempted dismantling of Jontys genitals
The Nazi party for blatantly trying to fix our match in Paris

who else?

(Them slightly further North dont count that isnt a grudge, its just pity)

Ian harte/Joe Jordan.

Ruud Van Nistleroy.

This one may not win me many friends, but the fans calling Morsy a c unit after the Bristol Rovers match. Completely uncalled for.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Man City after the abandonments around 1993 when they were going through their Peter Swailes/Franny Lee battle.

First game got abandoned with them needing the points and leading 2-0 (Craig Forrest didn't help by running to the away fans to celebrate the abandonement!!!). Us singing Swailes In.

Narrow walk around corner of Kippax into flow of City fans, elbowing, spitting etc.

Rematch, Franny Lee's first game. Mate got punched at full time on same journey back to coach and shouted "don't ever f***ing say Franny Out again!".

Special form of idiots with no humour. This was shown again with the Weakest Link banner. Sensitive bunch.

David Nugent. I know that a lot of players act like bell ends, especially if the crowd have been abusive towards them- but he was a total bell end when he scored a hat trick against us.

t'Watford.

I know for a fact Watford hated us back in the day, don't know if they're more ambivalent towards us now.

I can remember some spray paint on a wall near Vicarage Road that said 'We hate Luton and Ipswich'. I think it may have been due partly to some of their lot taking a hiding down here but I could be wrong.

Leeds mainly for just being Leeds, but additionally because Ian Harte got Marcus Stewart sent off in 2000/1 for the most blatant dive in football history denying us of his services for 3 weeks and the chance to qualify for the champions league.

Manure mainly for just being Manure, but additionally because van Nistelrooy earned a penalty for the second most blatant dive in football history and effectively send us down in 2002.

Of course, neither of these events are anywhere near as galling to a fanbase as a sign accurately pointing out that Citeh were the weakest link when they got relegated.

Van Nistelrooy one still irks me to this day. If he is ever brought up in conversation (which is all time as I am surrounded by United fans), I still vent my rage and dismay that he dove right in front of my effing face.

West Ham - see other threads for my long list of hatreds towards them.

Everton - no particular reason. I’ve always detested them. It’s just how it is.

It wasn't just the blatant dive - didn't he wink or grin as well, as he knew he'd conned the ref?

Sven-Göran Eriksson - for not selecting Marcus Stewart when he quite clearly deserved to be called-up for the England squad. Plus, a few years later he didn’t pick Darren Bent, but instead plumped for a 16yo Theo Walcott- who didn’t play one minute at that WC.

The absolutely awful Eriksson picked Michael Ricketts instead of Marcus.
How did we get lumbered with Eriksson? Are yes the one and only Adam Crozier

Have you not been paying attention Gainsborough, that spray paint, was quite obviously left by visitng Man City fans! They have already confirmed in an earlier thread today, that they hate both Luton and Ipswich....

Clubs:
Colchester - Tinpot nothing club forcing a rivalry
Cambridge - Same as Colchester
Sheffield Weds - Their arrogance and entitlement, dislike them
Any Suffolk club that plays in yellow - Should be obvious

Manager wise it would be either Roy Keane or Paul Hurst - just were awful for us

I will be honest I never really hated any players

That entire period was awful. Half the England team thought that they were pop stars with the celebrity culture around them (including the WAGS) far worse than now. No wonder we didn’t win anything.

When he ran round the pitch waving, I thought fair play. Even our own even tempered Phillip was fuming, as evidenced in that match report. Can't believe my memory works for ridiculous things like that :)

Aston Villa - no reason, probably no relation to Town... but I don't like VIlla
[Post edited 27 Oct 2023 10:36]

Im with you on this - ut I can give a reason. I'll never forgive them for sneaking our champions spot. They didn't deserve it. And we got beat by Citeh at Villa Park.

I should like them really as my grandparents gre up and owned a shop within spitting distance of Villa Park. But I just can't bring myself to like them.

Clubs:
Sheffield Wednesday - their arrogance last year was shocking esp the issue with Burns being elbowed. Not helped by their fan issues this year. Mildly enjoying their meltdown.
Sheffield Ute and Bolton - I still shudder when I remember sitting through play-offs against these two and losing out.
Chris Sutton - for so many obvious reasons
Andy Holt - just cos he doesn't like Morsy
And pretty much any team playing in yellow and green

I felt when Oxford were relegated out of the league in 2006 that it finally made up for them staying up ahead of us in 1985/86, though I should probably be more irate towards our own team who lost at the Manor Ground from 3-0 up earlier that season.

If we’re really looking for a villain from 85/86, it should probably be the combo of Gerald Ashby and Mark Ward for the game at West Ham at the end of April 86. Ashby for giving a controversial late penalty against Nigel Gleghorn for a challenge on Ward and Ward for reacting to it by blowing kisses at Gleghorn. Ray Stewart scored it and we lost 2-1. There are only two consolations to be taken:
1) A point would not ultimately have kept us up, we would have gone down on goals scored.
2) Karma found Mark Ward out big time 20 years later as he was sent to prison for drugs offences.

Chris Sutton: when I see him or hear anything about him I always think of Edmond Dantes in the film version of The Count of Monte Christo who was brought up from his prison cell once a year for a good anniversary whipping. A fate I’d happily see fall to Sutton without the happy ending. And his smug mate Shearer who I’ve never forgiven for the ‘no such easy game’ insult.

Is my desire for extreme punishment for those two cruel, unfair and OTT? Yep. Do I care? Nope. Who said life was fair?

Grimsby - we could never beat them, plus they always rolled over against Nodge

Tranmere - always seemed to just park the bus in the late 90s and be so boring

Not sure what season in the early 1990s but seem to remember a Boncho hattrick v Grimsby in the FA Cup

Wasn't some beef with their Keeper in the mid 80s? My memory says we got very angry cos he spat at fans.
