Disappointed in Mckenna tonight 21:14 - Nov 1 with 19903 viewsMancBlue86

We are clear in the league (with a GIH) and have a chance if making the 1/4 finals of a cup competition, with a real chance of getting to the semi’s (vale and boro as potential 1/4 opponents) and he puts out that side! If we were a 1-4 points clear in the league then fair enough but come on, we should have gone for it tonight, I would have and Im sure most of you would agree?

FFS! “Don’t understand modern football”. So your take on that is that you have to rest your entire first team because what, they can’t play two games in a week and we don’t want to risk ruining a potential return to the PL even though we’re only a quarter of the way through season?

I think anyone calling fans out for “not understanding the modern game” when they get all their information second hand is a bit moronic to be honest.

If you're getting your information second hand, then you have no idea the reasons he decided to rest the entire first team. See, you do get it.

…all the more reason to believe it’s a winnable tournament. We’re in the business of winning and winning trophies, end of.

Are we? McKenna doesn't seem to think so.

Can you do the one about how Badger and Mullet killed the football club by getting Cook sacked please? That was my favourite.

Pfffft. Ifs and buts. All eleven was unnecessary. Be consistent. Mick and Lambert took criticism for it, so should McKenna.

I'm afraid I can't take anyone the slightest bit seriously who thinks the situation now under KM is in any way comparable to how the situation was at the Club under MM & PL.

If you go through the lineup yesterday though, nearly every man out there needed minutes. Walton, Tuanzebe, Clarke and Donacien were desperate for a competitive match, while we wanted to prime 1st choice Burgess for Rotherham*. Ladapo over Hirst had to be the decision, both to give Ladapo minutes post-injury and to avoid knackering the latter. If you don't give your squad the opportunity and trust to play in a League Cup round of 16 game, when they've been consistently denied opportunities in the league, what is the message you're sending to them? We changed all ten outfield players in the previous round against Wolves and won 3-2.

That’s what I’m saying, it’s fine when it comes off but looks bad when it doesn’t. Another stage on and we’re starting to get to the business end of the tournament. I welcome changes for all the reasons stated and spoken about but not the whole eleven because it’s too much of a gamble when a quarter final is within reach. Look at that opening goal. Ridic! 4,5 or 6 changes plus 5 subs is more than adequate.

It’s about time tournaments stopped being devalued like this. It’s become The Reserves Cup, so how does that differ from a reserves league game!?

It's been devalued for years, Arsenal haven't won the League Cup for 30 years, didn't get close during their heyday in the late 90's.

Wigan won it to then get relegated, remember at the time the fans saying they would prefer staying up over a league cup win, that's Wigan fans.

Don't know why your so upset by this, McKenna's team was absolutely the right team to put out, 99% of fans in the stadium last night agreed.

You seem to be on a one man crusade here.

Normally I would agree with you all but I’m sticking with my original point, we are clear as we could have ever dreamed of, we should have gone for it tonight, sorry but just how I feel. No wrong or right here, just a matter of opinion

The reasoning has been explained. The players needed a rest and there's not much opportunity over the next two months.

Imagine if we had gone full strength and got a key injury.

McKenna really can't win.

Truly impaired.

It's a silly tournament isn't it? If there were a fan vote it would possibly go in the bin, which would help to restore reverence for the FA Cup IMO, but clubs would only call for this if they were sanctioned for fielding reserve sides. Otherwise it's harmless, a good opportunity to provide meaningful minutes for the wider squad and a small boost for whichever 'super clubs' stumble into the final.

That ship sailed something like two decades ago.

This "we're in the business of winning games and trophies" isn't really the case is it. Well, the trophies part isn't. It's about the buck innit. I.e. promotion to the PL (if you;re in the Championship).

I don't disagree with the sentiment, mind.

Sweeper-keeper innit.

League Cup should be recognised as a Reserves Cup.

And another competition started between all 92 club's fans - either full 11 a side, or could be 5 a side, a proper competition.

Also. We've just won 2 games whilst looking strangely lethargic..

If we needed a night off. Tonight was the night

Yes we're starting to look washed up a bit hopefully a blip,
But we play such a press itsa bit concerning,
Right decision to play squad players and players coming back from injuries,

It's difficult to know that should Town have played their "First" eleven and likewise Fulham had played theirs whether the outcome would have been any different. It's total guesswork. Nobody can take it away from Fulham that they looked a very decent side. Zipped the ball around, played out very well from the back and made a makeshift Town side look exactly that. The proof of the pudding as they say is in the eating. If for instance Town flop at the weekend then will a weakened side last night have been worth it ? On the other hand if they add to their points tally then great and a few have had a well deserved night off.

This is a really silly post. Nothing wrong with playing the squad. We need a squad and if they never play, then they ain't going to stay. It isn't hard to understand. You are obviously not a Town fan or you no nothing about football squads.

I really can't see the drama in last night's result.
No one was surprised with the line up. I bought my ticket knowing full well what I'd seen.
Fulham just looked great last night and were worthy winners.
It was great to see a game of football and it gave me an opportunity to take my kids, which I can't normally do.
I've hardly given the match a second thought today. It was a good cup run (based on recent history) that's come to an end and the result does nothing to affect our league position, which is much more important to me.
I don't feel short changed by the club, the team or KM.
I do fear for those with a nervous disposition if/when we do hit a rough patch.
Last night has done nothing to quell my positivity about the club after a decade of abject dross.

I've had sympathy with this view in the past when we've rested too many for the FA Cup on a Saturday with a clear week before the next league fixture. But it wasn't, so i don't.
