Seen the name of Whittaker thrown around a lot. Can’t see Plymouth selling him and if they did they’ll want 8m - 10m at least. (Based on Simms going for 7m and who appears to be nowhere near the level of Whittaker). Doubt we’ll be paying that sort of fee and would also assume he’ll have interest from clubs bigger than us.
Any other names that might be an option? Have our European scouts sourced any leads yet?

No idea if it would be realistic, but going to put a young Colombian midfielder called Richard Rios, 23 year-old who plays for Palmeiras in Brazil.
I know you can only see so much from a YouTube clip, but some highlights below. Transfermarkt reckons he’s worth £2.5M, so would fit our profile of signing for low with high potential.
I hear his brother Danny is a really enthusiastic player.

Do we have scouts in France, Phil?
We seem to very rarely sign anyone from there and the depth of quality there is huge just across the channel.
I don't know but Kieran McKenna said a while back that we were going to look to the continent for signings going forward. It was very difficult to sign players from abroad in League One and the situation has generally been made easier more recently anyway.
You'd think that European/other foreign agents would be well aware of the opportunity Ipswich would present to quality players, both from the angle of our proximity to the Premier League and the quality of the coaching which must, by now, be well-known throughout the football world.
I'd not be surprised if we end up signing a couple of overseas players in January, either scouted and approached by us, or pushed towards us by their own agents. No doubt they'll be as thoroughly vetted for 'character' as any British player coming here would be.

Would be great to get some exciting European signings in. We have a few nationalities in the squad but many were born in the UK and just opted to take the nationality of parents.
Scandinavia used to be a rich source of bargain quality players, and the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish leagues are about the same level as the Championship. My scouts in Football Manager always used to find some proper gems LOL

Although we do need to be spending that sort of money if we want to get automatic promotion. I think it’ll be a loan striker rather than permanent for that reason.
Not sure why you got a stupid down vote. It's almost as if some people still haven't heard of FFP!

Given Ashtons relative success with signing players from France during his time at Bristol City, I’d be very surprised if he we didn’t have someone looking for players over there.

Think your last sentence is the key one. Until you've built up a network of people you really trust, it is difficult to as thoroughly vet players from abroad as it is the UK market. You don't want to upset the balance/camaraderie of this squad. Saying that, I think the type of striker we want for the sort of money we want to pay is going to be slim pickings in the domestic market this January.

I know those highlights only show the positive side of a player, but the banner at the start did state that he has 'no significant weaknesses' . Based on that he'd be a great target. Can't miss out on a player with no weaknesses.
I was trying to work out what sort of player he'd be from that, and he looked like a bit of an all rounder, there was plenty of Morsy style stuff, some good solid tackling and even those turns and forward surges in midfield, there was some attacking play up the right wing a la Burnsor Hutchinson, and and also some goals taken from the centre of the penalty area, Hirst/Chaplin style.
A striker is a definite must as Ladapo is League 1 standard at best. Im sure the WBA defence were quaking in their boots when he was subbed on on Saturday!
Ive heard Szmodics mentioned a few times but I think it may take a reasonable fee to prize him away from Blackburn same with Whittaker from Plymouth - although both would be amazing signings to be fair. Maybe its worth a punt on Colby Bishop or Devante Cole perhaps.

Recently called up to the Colombia national team, so must have some substance to back up the videos.
I know McKenna has spoken a lot about players having to settle and thoroughly vetting players, but I think it’s a market we should definitely be looking at given our model of signing low and selling high, look at all the South American players in the Premier League for an example.

Maybe not for January though when we really need them to settle straight away and hit the ground running. Can see there being value in it as a market but maybe more for the summer when they've got a full preseason to find their feet.

Many hinting on a defender. What about Baggott. I think McKenna is a superb manager but for the life of me I cannot understand why Baggott is not getting a run out. I went to the Palace game and although we were pretty poor, when Baggott came on he seemed assured and calm on the ball and was marshalling the defence. He also scored, which our centre backs don't seem to often enough. I agree with many that sadly Jackson and Ladapo aren't good enough for this Division and certainly wouldn't be for the Prem. Both however would do a superb job for a Division One job hell bent on promotion.

Good player, just had a breakout season playing in a good side (fighting up at the top of the Brasileirão and they also got to the semis in the Libertadores before losing on penalties to Boca). Transfermarkt’s valuation seems low to me. Think Palmeiras would probably want something more like 5-10 million for him.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Not sure if it’s been mentioned already (and probably just paper talk) but we were/are reportedly interested in Kwame Poku of Peterborough.. Would make some sense, a versatile attacking option who can play right & left, a good age (22) and on an upward trajectory. That said I would imagine we might be looking at more proven championship to add some strength to those positions if we do.
I do think we’ll sign another CM, especially with Luongo likely to miss some time, Evans long term injury & Ball not pulling up any trees albeit in some sporadic cameos. There is also the undeniable fact that Luongo & Morsy are entering the latter stages of their peak, so there is the consideration of succession planning. It would also allow Humphreys to go out on loan, Evans to be deregistered & keep Ball around for his versatility
