A media circus has nothing to do with is and 'it not being very nice' is neither here nor there either. Neither of those are genuine or valid reasons. [Post edited 18 May 2024 19:12]

Managing in women’s football is totally different to managing in men’s football.

I'd happily take Emma Hayes as our next manager. on 19:49 - May 18 by Crawfordsboot | I was at the Man U / Chelsea match today when Chelsea won the league. The standard of football was very poor and in my view she needs to manage at least a Lg 1 side before any suggestion that she could cope at Championship or Prem level. That said she is a good analyst on the box so maybe she could step up but not a punt we need to make. |
The standard is poorer because of the physical differences. A female manager in the men’s game would get male players, so that gets rid of that issue straight away. The biggest challenge and barrier women managers would have to overcome would be acceptance. The leadership skills required are identical whether male or female.

Totally different gravy managing women's football versus mens football. Do think she will be very good for the USA women's team mind.

I'd happily take Emma Hayes as our next manager. on 19:27 - May 18 by Cheltenham_Blue | If you don't mind me saying homer, this thread seems to deliberately designed to elicit an argument with the first person who mentions Hayes being a woman. You're right, she is a born winner, and her teams do play excellent football. But 'managed consistently at the highest level'? No. |
Am I that sort of poster?

I'd happily take Emma Hayes as our next manager. on 19:39 - May 18 by Swansea_Blue | We’d have to overcome lots of fragile male egos before we got to that point. We can have female colleagues in every other walk of life and even as PM, but god forbid anyone suggesting a woman as a football manager of a men’s team. |
As evidenced by some of our more elite replies in this thread. [Post edited 19 May 2024 0:27]

Certainly triggered a decent helping of the usual suspects. I’m sure the disappointingly few female members on here will be delighted by the inclusionary embrace offered by our established luminaries. One of them even offered up the superbly constructive observation that Emma Hayes was a ‘gobby cow’ I reported it and thankfully Phil quickly removed it. Hopefully Phil will have a quiet word because it’s utterly embarrassing, and I presume he would welcome a more enlightened and inclusive attitude representing the flagship supporter’s website of a Premier League club? Interesting how winning an actual trophy is deemed not elite enough whilst sneering at the budges for not winning them.

There’s plenty of good analysts who are failed managers, Neville being a perfect example. It’s a nonsense shout and a complete non-starter given the chasm between men and women’s football. Any mention of it is simply a blind tick in the box for liberalism and equal opportunity.

Because winning a trophy that level is effectively the same as winning trophies at u18 level in the men’s game. It has little relevance to managing in the PL. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact she’s a woman and everything to do with the level she’s managed at. If it was a bloke managing at that level being recommend here most people would have exactly the same response. Whereas if you had a woman who had been a first team coach at a premier league level who wanted to make the jump into management (similar to McKenna), the reception would be far more welcoming because they’re familiar with the standards.

Your argument is correct but incomplete. She has no experience of managing faster, stronger male athletes and egos. Until and unless she has managed in men’s football at a lower level the idea of her managing in the premiership is a total non starter.

Zactly. And it'd be a unnecessarily massive gamble, which risk we really shouldn't be taking for our first season back in the Prem after 22 years. Fortunately GC & MA are far too sensible to go down such a route.

And second, in our first season back up in 23 years you’d appoint a female manager with no experience in the men’s game. [Post edited 19 May 2024 12:42]
