Do you think the Tories as a party think they have a chance?

I've personally never seen so much disdain for a government, some older posters might be aware of previous governments being hated more.

I personally hope they get obliterated, but feels like Labour will get in because they aren't the Tories rather than a viable opposition.

Why the feck would anyone still vote Tory? They've spent 14 years destroying the country and you're still worrying about Labour? Crikey.

I would say that the government in 1979 was on a parallel with regards to disdain, if anything maybe more.

However, the longer you rule the more complacent and corrupt you get. Complacency and corruption goes hand in hand with any tenure this long.

I have voted for various parties over my ageing lifetime but it has usually been Tory or a spoilt vote.

Not sure what to do this time but it won't be a Tory one.

If I'm honest I don't think we have a person or party up to the task at this time.

I think we are screwed to be honest.

I literally hope this election sends them extinct for what they have done in the last 14 years. The country is at such a low ebb and no one see's it returning to affordability and prosperity.

It's beyond the realms of possibility that 1 government will unravel 14 years of mess, but someone has to start the repairs somewhere.

I can't honestly see how anyone can look around them and think "how marvelous is this, give me 4 more years please".

Some people are so deeply indoctrinated they can’t see wood for the trees.
There are others out there who don’t rely on the essential services or NHS or aren’t a part of/don’t personally know anyone from one of the demographics that the Conservative party routinely victimise to deflect from their own failures.

Then there are also nasty ignorant bigoted people…

I’m terrified the bastards scoop together enough people to win. I’ve seen the polls but the last X years has shown polls can mean very little in the right (wrong) circumstances.

Thatcher was hated more, by just over half the population, whereas Sunak's Tories are held in utter contempt by about 70% of the population, and probably disdain by the 30% who will hold their noses and vote for them.

Lots of long-term Tory voters will simply not turn out to vote.

I'm divided on what to do. Will not vote Tory but have little faith in Labour at the moment. Do I follow my head, hold my nose, and vote for them and the most likely party to beat the Conservatives in my constituency, or do I follow my heart and vote for the party who I feel has the best manifesto?

Dyed in the wool Tory voters are a funny bunch, they see their only options as voting Tory, voting for a bunch of fringe nutjobs like UKIP or Reform as a protest, or not voting at all. It doesn't occur to them at all that they could vote for one of the other parties that actually offer policies intended to improve the country.

Labour in 1979 got 37% of the vote - I voted for them - only 6 percentage points lower than the Tories' share.

But I wouldn't disagree with your last two sentences.

I live in a safe Labour seat so will likely vote Green. If I was in a seat with a sitting Tory MP and Labour were the most likely to oust them then I'd hold my nose and vote Labour. Labour are pretty uninspiring but they're not as utterly dreadful as the Tories.

Reform were polling ahead of the Lib Dems last night and only 11% behind the Tories.

A poor campaign and enough lies from the racist gang and that gap might conceivably be quite a bit closer come election day.

The 1979 shambles of Callaghan’s mob was just that. Shambles and an incompetent, weak one at that. They were deservedly thrown out. Shame they were followed by Thatcher. Oh well.

Sunak’s mob are in my view corrupt, self serving, incompetent wreckers. The idea of conservatism is to keep what is good and change what isn’t. Not with this crowd. Scorched earth privilege party is what they should call themselves. Do they believe their own lies and nonsense? Possibly. They certainly do not believe in society, common good, opportunity for all.

Their ignorance is staggering, but their vindictiveness and lack of any moral standards that I recognise overwhelming. If one of their people is caught working a sweat up watching porn on his phone in the HoC Chamber, first response is ‘wasn’t me’, second ‘who blew the whistle’, third ‘I was looking up tractors’. FFS be gone, all of you.

If not disbanded they should be out for at least two generations. By then they might have worked themselves into a political party that represent something other than the infliction of misery, greed and privilege.

I don’t like Labour much either. Will they be incompetent? Probably. But regardless I suspect they might just try to do stuff to benefit people rather than just themselves. They at least deserve the opportunity. The others? It’ll be the usual crowd of nondescripts. With the exception of Count Binface. Glad he will be throwing his lid in!

Not that my vote matters. A pile of vomit with a blue rosette gets in here regardless.

Anyone left voting Tory now isn't interested in making the country better. They've built their entire identity over bootlicking for wealthy corrupt criminally inclined bigots to 'own the lefties' and are into the cult too deep to get out now.

Whilst I still have some faith left in the Labour Party, it feels it is incumbent on us all to vote in a way that rids us of the scourge of this dreaded tory party, but that comes with the health check of avoiding other right wing parties such as Reform too.
I live in South Cambs. It is probably one of the safest tory seats in the country. Labour have absolutely no chance of even laying a glove on the current MP. So that leaves the Lib Dems.
I voted for them one before and whilst they didn't win, I felt dirty and partly responsible for playing my part in the coalition that started terrible tory malaise.
So what to do?
I guess like others, I'll just have to hold my nose and vote for the candidate most likely to challenge Anthony Browne.
This is the same Anthony Browne who once said on immigration - "“It is not through letting in terrorists that the government’s policy of mass migration – especially from the third world – will claim the most lives. It is through letting in too many germs.”.

Nice bloke.

The Country needs a complete reset. When Labour take power I am certain it won't happen. The reason being they as with every Government get five years. The mess the Country is in it will take much longer to turn around. Too many not working and although I am a pensioner too many of us also, Having said that I started work when in my early teens and worked until I was 71. If I'd have been fir enough would still be working. I have some sympathy with the younger generation with regards to mortgages or rather house prices. But to read by some how it's much harder for them now is absurd. I lived with my Grandparents as Mum was ill. We didn't have hot water, a bathroom, central heading or an inside toilet. It was down the garden, no lighting, no heating and a wooden bench which you sat on and did what was necessary into a bucket that had to be emptied. But that's enough of me and to be honest I felt I had a great upbringing where I could run free, play outside and not be stuck on playing games on some device. This Country need to produce more, stop selling it's best assets to anyone who's prepared to pay the going rate. Get those able to work and even up the disparity between those with more than enough and those with not enough.
