Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 12:30 - May 27 by essexpaul64 | Most disappointing aspect of this saga is that Ipswich so far have said NOTHING. They can see all the rumours and speculation flying around on here, yet themselves keep quiet. Last i have heard from them about this is a leading shareholder coming over from America to talk to McKennas representatives. Ashton is also sinking fast in my estimation about him as well, he says we will only tell you once anything is definate, then nothing. Come on MA and ITFC, what the hell is going on ????? |
They aren't going to say anything. They'll never comment and give you a running commentary on rumours, and they certainly didn't announce anything about the shareholder coming over.

Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 12:28 - May 27 by FoghornGleghorn | You have absolutely no insight into whether any of that is accurate. What is it you think Schwartz has flown over for, just a massive McK leaving do? |
I know the contract has been on the table to him since the middle of last week. I know that Brighton approached him the week beforehand. Schwartz has come over to a) try and convince Kieran to stay and b) consider alternatives if he leaves us in the lurch. I thought that much was obvious? Brighton can afford to wait on McKenna as they have a Premier League squad. But we are going into our biggest season in a generation and can't afford to do ANYTHING half-baked. Ashton said the club will say something when it’s something is definite and nothing is definite so…

Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 12:01 - May 27 by Herbivore | This is my worry, if he wasn't interested in the Brighton job he'd have turned them down by now and they'd have moved on. He's waiting to see what happens at United but I think he's probably going to end up at Brighton, which is very disappointing. |
Could well be right, there’s clearly some interest otherwise I don’t see why he wouldn’t have closed it down, unless it’s to negotiate better terms here. Not sure I would like it all that much as a Brighton supporter either. Would very much feel like a compromise having hung on to United all this time. Like us, you would think they would want someone 100% excited at the prospect.
Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 12:41 - May 27 with 2660 views | ArnieM | If Brighton are so confident of recruiting McKenna, then Ipswich must have given permission for him to speak with them, but have said NOTHING to the Ipswich fans about this. Is this likely? If it is then f cuk the lot of them for their total lack of respect afforded to Town fans.

I don’t understand this obsession with expecting the club to make a statement, when has that ever happened in this scenario? The club not making a statement is the absolute least of our concerns.

Not how it works. They'll agree terms with McKenna's agents and only then make an official approach to ITFC to agree compensation.

Just because certain people have decided to conduct this sorry mess in public doesn’t mean ITFC have to. In fact I’m glad it hasn’t.

The deal is agreed with the managers agents first and once they know that the manager will accept it and wants to move, then they approach the club.

The Brighton supporters i know do not like it and are pretty lukewarm about KM. Story could be simply presenting plausible speculation as fact or fed by agents but either way it doesn’t feel totally convincing to me. If we’re entering the end game which is going to be concluded by KM going to Brighton then it’s time to stop the public posturing and negotiations and thrash details out not stir the pot more.

Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 12:03 - May 27 by pointofblue | Surely if it was noise from the Brighton side it'd be saying they have approached someone else, to try and force McKenna into a decision? If anything, this feels more like from the agent either trying to push United into a decision quickly or getting Town to up their contract offer. |
Probably two-fold. Trying to negotiate an improved contract, but also getting Schwarz to commit to a transfer war-chest at a level that McKenna thinks will make us competitive. I’m not saying I think Gamechanger are reluctant to spend, but I also can’t see McKenna agreeing a £5 mil a year contract without also making certain he’ll be backed in the transfer market.
Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 12:55 - May 27 with 2349 views | Hackneyblueboy | Quietly waits for Phil to either confirm this story or shut it down. I just can't see a scenario where he stays being likely now. Like people have said if he wasn't going to leave town for Brighton you'd have thought he would have told them by now. I guess he's waiting for United news first. You would hope Ashton would ask for confirmation of his loyalty to the club early this week. We can't just let this drift on. I suspect Ashton is well across it. Publically he's never going to rule himself out of Brighton whilst the United job is there but he must have some conviction either way on the Brighton job. Given the mutual respect the two have that will have almost certainly been discussed.
Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 13:03 - May 27 with 2174 views | MJallday | Either way, MA is staying and I’m sure he’s more than aware the impact this is having on not just the supporters, but the club , players and its stakeholders. We will be told at an appropriate time what is happening, until then - this is all just noise MA bought KM in, and we have to trust he will (if it comes to it) bring the right person in in the future. He’s earned our respect in that. If he stays, we’ve got the hottest management prospect in European football. If not, Theres an abundance of good managers about, we have deep pockets and a good squad with decent infrastructure . Lots of positives if the worst happens.

I think Ashton will know exactly where we stand. I don't believe for one minute we are waiting on McKennas decision before we start planning.

The only difference is the agents of those managers haven’t run their mouths off to the national media like McKenna’s has.

Because, at this stage, they have nothing to gain from doing so. To answer my own question I posted earlier, now I've had time to think about it, agents pressing candidates towards the Town job will be left in an awkward position if McKenna stays. If he goes, and a post becomes available, then I imagine the push will start.

Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 13:26 - May 27 with 1744 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Another load of bet wetting on a journo's article, which is not fact checked and is almost certainly a response to a rumour someone was told by someone else before this guy heard it. And you lot are taking this one as gospel, again. "HITC understands" ffs. Get used to this, he is one of the most highly rated coaches in the game, and therefore the most sought after, of course the bookies are installing him as the favourite for every job that comes up, why wouldn't they? If he doesn't go to any of these three, he'll be linked with every top 15 job in the Prem, every single time. [Post edited 27 May 2024 13:27]

Brighton confident of appointing McKenna this week… on 13:27 - May 27 with 1699 views | Ace_High1 | I have no problem with him wanting to progress his career, but the shame is he seems keen on anything PL but Ipswich and is in the runnning for all vacant roles? As others have said if Frank went to Utd or Chelsea, I expect KM would be favourite for that role as well. By all means go to a "super club" like United or Chelsea (not focusing on how they are run currently) but Brighton seems a needless move and poor from KM. Must mean he really feels we flaked promotion and have no chance of competing this year and therefore his reputation will take a massive hit.

He told us there would be a lot of noise this summer, and he was right. There's nothing any of can do except bear his wise words in mind every time we get a bit angsty about a situation totally out of our control. Easier said than done maybe, but we are in very good hands, are we not?

I wonder how the players will feel? Pretty let down like the rest of us I would imagine. |
