Think McKenna's tone in acknowledging the other jobs is about right 18:23 - May 30 with 4657 viewsDubtractor

No point pretending it didn't happen, and he is spot on that it's right to at least understand what else is out there, but happy with where he has ended up. He makes the point again that he is (and always has been) fiercely ambitious, so we'll probably go through this again at some point, but we can't begrudge him that.

it is an indication that the aim is to take the project to the very top. And he knows he has the backing to the max.

Establish us in the prem over the next 12-24 months and I don't think anyone would begrudge him his dream move to Old Trafford.

Thing is, his contract is now of a level where only the 'big six' would feel a step up earnings-wise. So I just hope we've fended off the Brighton-esque approaches for good.

My gut feel? We have Kieran for another two years max, while Ten Hag (or a replacement) establish INEOS' way of doing things and he then moves to Old Trafford with everyone's adoration and best wishes.

Spurs in a year is the one I think about. Ange already looks one third out the door, those fans are so weird. Don’t expect any of the other massive Uk jobs will be open unless Manure stick with ETH for another year.

McKenna has always been clear that he wants to coach at an elite level and that Man United is his boyhood club as a supporter. He's been transparent about talking to other clubs when they show interest, which is a perfectly normal thing to do in any industry when you're head hunted.

The chap clearly believes he has work left to do here, he's happy here and his family are settled and he's said as much.

I really do not think any of the character assassination has been warranted.

Yes, we will go through this again, but I don't think it is as critical as it would be now if he had left. I would imagine the squad would be unsettled and anyone who came in would have a hell of a fight to get that team working in the same way as KM does. I could have seen a new gaffer coming in and doing a rebuild and putting us in the mud again. That is why this was the most critical time to keep KM, we need more time with him to establish the ethos in Town and make sure that anyone who comes here would be able to work to that ethos and not rip it all up.

He is a clever man who isn't going to jump at just any opportunity. He knows he is trusted here and he trusts those he works with and that is invaluable.

At some point Man Utd will come calling. If they can convince him that he will be given the right environment to work in, he will go. Until then, I think he will remain our manager but he will sound out anything that he is offered and no one can deny he has earnt the right to do so.

100% I would have acted no differently. Christ I have been at my company 10 years now and I've been to I dunno 4/5 interviews at other companies during that time, but each time decided to stay put. Sometimes you need to feel around just in case its a better suit in the future. At least his acknowledged it and been open. That's all we can ask for.

and Ill keep reminding people, you only get one chance at the Man Utd job.

he absolutely wants to be manager there, one day, he is only 38 though, Fergie was a month away from his 45th birthday when got the Man Utd job, funnily enough the same age Solskjær was too.

you dont take that job unless you are ready for it, because if you muck it up, and remember "muck up" thesedays to them means winning the FA cup and being in Europe isnt good enough for the media/fans/class of 92 apparently, youre history & out the door.

I’m just SO pleased he’s staying . This Club can achieve anything under this leadership …. And I do mean anything . They’re looking to PL stability initially snd I wouldn’t be surprised if the ultimate goal is champions league ( something I’ve always thought these owners were really focusing on). Don’t limit your horizons, because this ownership definitely isn’t.

Is it not possible though that despite talking to other clubs it was those clubs themselves who decided against appointing him and then he signed his new contract here. Many people are talking as if he turned down another job/s in favour of staying with us.

Completely agree. He never takes us for mugs. We had years of coaches in press conferences, being vague, and thinking fans wouldn't get it etc.

Not from McKenna. He has always been open, explained what and why. That is really all we can ask for.

Mckenna will not go for the Money alone to a bigger club..there is no guarantee going to a big club will realise your ambitions of being at the top ..top of what?? Look at All the so called big clubs this season Liverpool..imploded .spurs very inconsistent..Chelsea all over the place..Newcastle were great then through injuries slipped down the table..man united suffered from the all united but no one Is united effect ..if you look at all those managers..none of them can say it was a good year .apart from keeping a champions league spot..but it was touch and go to the end .would Mckenna have done any better with them...too many internal upheavals and distractions..going to a big club does not guarantee you success...kieran does not want to go to a club in a state of chaos ..and expected to rebuild..and achieve and expected to guarantee results and take such club to the top .Mckenna feels he is just right for our club as much as our club is just right for him..all he needs is a guarantee from the owners that funds be available to take ipswich to where kieran knows he can take us to...we could be pleasantly suprised ...

The Brighton job was his and he turned it down. Ditto Palace in February. We shouldn't underestimate the commitment/loyalty he has shown, these are clubs that finished 10th and 11th in the PL this season.

Whilst the way it all played out it was a very short period of disruption and timed to perfection as usual for this current leadership group. Squeeze it into a tiny window before any other decisions need to be announced/made. I can’t begrudge KMcK looking at all options, it would have been a serious issue for us had it gone a different way. Stabilise us in the PL ahead of the on paper plan and we will be forever thankful. What comes next is the most difficult thing that we’ve not been able to achieve for a lifetime, maintaining an enduring stay at the highest level. Good luck everyone, the club needs us all pushing in the same direction.

It was typical of him really. He addressed the issue, didn't shy away from it, was honest about why he felt it important to listen to such offers, but also clearly articulated why he decided to stay. Anyone doubting his commitment and integrity last week should really be taking a moment to reflect right now. He's pure class and that won't change when the time does come that he decides to move on.

I've just been through the exact same scenario as McKenna (albeit on far less money!) been at my company 5 years and enjoy it, got offered a significant raise by another organisation which sounded good, but spoke with my boss and they made a great offer to keep me.

I'm happy to stay and wasn't really looking to leave, and sometimes moving for financial reasons only can come back to bite you in the ar5e.

Totally understand McKenna putting the feelers out to see where he sits in the market, realises that his potential gives him access to roles like Utd, but not in the short term. He's been given the keys to the kingdom ere, can build on what he has already achieved and if he leaves us whilst keeping us up, then we would all wish him well as he goes off to Utd, and certainly wouldn't begrudge him one iota.

I didn’t realise he got offered the Brighton job, where did you read/hear that? So we are assuming he wasn’t offered any other job? You cannot consider a position you are not offered.
