I have sat in D block for over 50 years since I was an 11 year old boy. In the dark times when others gave up their tickets we kept ours, at an astronomical price, for two reasons. Our love for the club and the fact that they were the best seats in the ground. To show that loyalty and then get kicked out immediately we get success again is gut wrenching, and worst of all to find out by a Twitter post feels really disrespectful. I still haven’t received an email from the club. D block has been a big part of my life and I am feeling very sad this evening.

That’s sht for you, but I hope the seat you get offered (along with the exciting football) helps to make it a good match day experience still for you (and others affected)

They’re not choosing to annoy anyone. They have to make certain changes to meet the PL requirements, as explained by Ashton. Everyone should know this.

Of course they know this. But it’ll still annoy people. As I said

It may have been prudent to advise those in D block that they’re going to have to move prior to pictures of it being flattened.

I have ( or I guess had) a season ticket in block D albeit for a lot less time than many others. I’m pretty glum tonight as it was a very special part of the ground and I know it’s unlikely to ever be replicated fully. I had already made peace that time there was limited and although I wasn’t expecting it to be so soon, I do accept the club probably wouldn’t be moving all of the most profitable seats in the house for £30 away fans without looking hard for alternatives.

The messaging though has been crap. Pictures on Twitter followed by an email today with very little information other than to join the bun fight at 10am tomorrow. Just like the poster above, many of the people in the block have been there for decades and my friend who I sit with made the very good point that this demographic is less likely to be checking email on a daily basis. To not have the courtesy to call them or write a letter is very poor in my opinion.

I am also annoyed that the club almost certainly knew about this before the end of the season and said nothing. Ashton specifically pointed out in the interview where he advised of upcoming changes that they had been engaging with the premier league since the spring. To be consulted would have been nice if tokenistic but mainly it would have meant I had the chance to properly say goodbye to the people I have been sitting around and thank the staff that work in the bar and on the block. I’m sure many of you are also in a similar position of becoming friendly over time with people in your area but not to the point where you would ever exchange contact information. My main recurring memory tonight is saying “see you in the premiership” to a lady in my row as I left. If it was inevitable that this wouldn’t be so, I’m not really sure what the upside was to the club of keeping it under wraps.

Agree regarding your first paragraph. It wasn’t his finest hour on the Comms front, even if I understood what he was trying to say.

The Cobbold stand was state of the art in 1971/75 (after it was extended) and felt posh - especially as it was by far the biggest stand in the ground. I Iast sat in it in 2019 and couldn’t get over how cramped and old it felt with dingy narrow stairways and limited facilities. My knees were up against the seat in front and I am not tall. It just felt every year of nearly 50 years old.

I hope it is redeveloped as soon as is financially viable, as was the Portman/Cobbold stand back in the day.

I have a seat in the Cobbold. I lost it for the Maidstone game and went for the best seats in the opposite stand. A poor seat. Padded yes, but leg room was appalling. Give me my B block over the awful West Stand every time

But they can give up their ticket if they want to. I don’t really get that argument

I think we are talking about different things from the link given. I'm talking about the issue in the South Stand. They already purchased a ticket for a product that no longer exists. They won't want to give up a ticket, as they support Ipswich, and want to watch them. But they are being moved to a place with lesser facilities (eg, leg room that they paid for) with no price adjustment.

To give a more extreme example, if you had a normal ticket at a normal price, and were moved to a restricted view seat at the same price, you would raise it and expect a partial refund.

I'm not sure what you are refering to. But assume it is to do with people buying season tickets for a certain product (eg, more leg room), and then not offering any form of compensation for changing that product (eg, being moved to a place with standard leg room).

Comes across as mis-selling to me.

I think think those impacted would easily win compensation through the relevant small claims. But understand they wouldn't want to take the club they support through small claims.

Even if the club offered money at Planet Blue or behind the bar, then at least their is some recognition of error, attempt at customer service, and whateve they gave wouldn't even be a true cost in these examples, as the money would come back to the club with margin, compared to money.

Sorry if you are refering to something different.

What tosh. Basically the seat is no longer available. Here is an alternative, you either take it or you don't. No compensation required.

I don’t think they had too many options. The only question i have os why they did not move them straight to chirchmans straight away,

But there must be a reason why that was not the best way to do it

I do understand why you are upset though and agree with others that you should get first choice on the new stand seats.

That's poor if it's fastest fingers first to select your new seat.

I know they are adding 136 seats in X block, but from what I've seen the first six rows in Y block have been removed to accommodate the new press box (so these supporters will also need to move).

Hopefully there are enough premium seats available in X and Y to accommodate everyone, but I doubt it.

That isn’t my experience. I’ve sat all over PR over very many years now and of course stood when most of the ground was standing (much preferred it too). I actually sat in one of the extensions to the East Stand when they opened in 75 5th Rd FA Cup tie.. It was state of the art. Like the rest of the ground, it isn’t now.

Times change. It’s decrepit. I know we get attached to things - we are creatures of habit. I accept that there will be people who yearn for a half empty ground, Cheltenham at home and their decades old seat in a mouldering stand with that warm comfy feeling sitting with memories and old friends. But we are where we are. The Premier League with all that goes with it.

I’ve seen ‘why not bung all the away supporters in Churchmans?’. Well logistically, that’s even more work and you’ve increased the workload because you are relocating an awful lot more people than 700. Ok, the Churchmans rabble may not be important compared to the premium brigade, but even if that is the case (it’s not - every person deserves the same level of respect and customer service) the workload per supporter moved is still the same.

I understand why the club is doing what it’s doing. I get people don’t want to move and expect a solution and level of service to their satisfaction.

It is a month since promotion. There is mountains to do in a short space of time with a ground needing considerable work and unprecedented demand. We are in a situation few expected so soon if ever. I hope those displaced are sorted out to a reasonable level of satisfaction with proper communication. I doubt they’ll be charged a premium rate for a cheaper seat - the cost of my peasant’s seat reduced this year (age) and it was done automatically with no notification.

To be honest, if I sat in Cobbold I’d have been expecting to lose my seat very soon, promotion or not…the f’ker is going to be knocked down as soon as conveniently possible!

I have to admit, I was surprised that the away fans weren't moved into the SAR Lower, lock stock and barrel. I was fully expecting to be asked to move to the Cobbold upper.

Block X in SAR Upper is being changed to accommodate extra premium seats. It now seems the extra seats were for Block D season ticket holders. The view will be very different for them and I am sure they will only be paying the Block X price rather than their Block D price. They are putting two extra rows into the existing Block X footprint therefore reducing the legroom for those existing Block X season ticket holders.

I think there are quite a few logistical problems with moving away fans to just the SAR lower. Both upper and lower stands use the same turnstiles (and they spent a lot upgrading them last year). All the upper stand stairwells are in areas common with the lower stand too. In terms of minimising work to achieve segregation I would think it would actually be simpler to give the away fans a portion of both upper and lower stands.

Also, not many PL clubs have an 'away end' anymore as it gives a psychological advantage to the away team.

Brighton are moving away supporters in 2025/26 for this reason, even though the current away end only holds 10% of their capacity.

I'll be disappointed if the club comes up short in the way it handles this. It does seem as if there's little option for them so it's a decision they are forced to make. However it's a shame if the business side of things runs roughshod over the fans and if the changes that have to be made are not made as easy as possible for the fans.

I love this club and are in awe at how the owners and leadership team have turned things around in just 3 years. But guys - please keep moving forward with grace to the paying public.

Ashton has said anyone whose seat won't be available for next season due to the increased away allocation or the other changes needed to meet PL requirements will be contacted individually. I have no doubt that in any move the price they end up paying will be the usual price for that new seat, any overpayment already made will be refunded, and that if they don't want a seat now anything already paid will be fully refunded. They just need to wait till they're contacted.

Speaking to a forest fan - season tickets have doubled in 3 years of being in the premiership!

It’s going to get costly!

I agree with you Vic. However, I suspect people will feel roughshod run over. Some will by the sheer fact of being moved at all. But there is also the logistics within the football club to consider. They have x amount of staff to deal with this along with others displaced, season ticket holders not renewing for reasons various, away supporters, physically getting people in place so they can issue the cards and update the records all wishing very limited timescales.

Get more staff? For just two months? Training? It’s not practical. Reallocate staff? I’m sure they’ve done a bit of that but ITFC is not a huge employer and there’s lots to do elsewhere too. So what I am saying is that given the time constraints, the numbers of staff, the supporters to cater for, there is bound to be compromises and the odd cockup to boot. But it is imperative the club communicates, repeatedly if necessary, what it is doing and why - and treats its supporters as well as it can in these amazing times.
