Are we really that disinterested in international football? Not that there has been anything much to post about this game.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I'm sure someone will "invent" some sort of garter that will become all the rage.

Nothing wrong with rolled up newspapers if you ask me.

I was at the game, tepid first half, more speed injected at half time livened it up a bit. Not the normal crowd, lots of kids which is a good thing, but the atmosphere was subdued because of both it and the lethargic performance; Gallagher mind, great player in the tackle.

Happy to report multiple Blue army followers in the crowd around me.

Couldn’t give a fook.

Ever since that day we beat Peterborough & France knocked England out of the Qatar World Cup I’ve realised I only really care about Ipswich & I’ve barely watched a minute of England since.

I found myself in recent years watching England friendlies more out of duty than enjoyment. Tonight I saw them playing in grey, presumably to sell £125 shirts, in front of the usual flashing adverts and decided to switch off. I expect I will get into it when the Euros start. For now my football energy is all for Ipswich. I am watching the season highlights one match each evening.

After the season we've just had, Glassers, (and the associated guff these last 3 weeks), my focus is still on club rather than country.

That'll probably change, to be fair.

It wasn't always this way though. Pre tournament friendlies used to generate as lot of interest. I know I'm going back a few years but I remember Gazza playing against Czechoslovakia guaranteeing his place at Italia 90.

I was at the last friendly before Italia90 at Wembley, England lost 2-1 to Uruguay in front of a crowd of approx 25,000.

Sir Bobby's last match on home soil as England manager.

There was a great pre WC tournament back in 1997 that got a lot of interest. I did get quite excited for that because it featured three of the best teams int he world - Frace, Italy, and Brazil. Also memorable for THAT Roberto Carlos banana kick!

A friendly featuring mostly squad players against Bosnia, not so much…

1997 pre-WC tournament: England beat Italy 2-0 in Nantes, beat France 1-0 in Montpellier then lost 1-0 to Brazil in Paris.

I did all 3 matches, on the way back from Katowice (beat Poland 2-0 in a WC qualifier).

Meh. Boring friendly.

Can’t say I’m even excited for the Euros, yet, usually buzzing, but all my attention has been on ITFC even since the season ended.

International tournaments usually see us through the summer well but just want the season to start already

Not me, I need a break from ITFC. It has been exhausting, especially the KM contract situation. I learnt my lesson to read the news when it comes in rather than worry about something I can't control. I'm really looking forward to the Euros. It's a home tournament for me my kids are half German, half English, so they will support whoever is doing the best, so I'm hoping they will be supporting England! I have great memories from Euro '96 (crying on the sofa after the semi-final exit. Beating Germany in the final in Germany will feel like exorcising some demons. If that happens, there will not be anyone quite as long suffering as Ipswich/England fans to experience such an upturn in fortunes!

Yep. I'd rather watch a national league game than that. Each tournament and always the same. We play players in pre friendlies that won't play at the Euro's. It's always a horrible, turgid watch.

I do find it interesting how we are favourites for the tournament. We have an incredible front 4, a robust defence, but people are really down on our chances.

But yeah, I don't care about friendlies. In fact, I don't care about qualifying or nations cup either.

I thought the game showed the limitations playing a very predominantly right footed player at left back brings.

I think we'll see Davis in the squad before too long.

'Le Tournoi'

Seem to recall a lot of people bigging up an exciting new prospect at left back, Phil Neville. I'm sure he must've progressed to become a world star.

England are favourites with the English bookies. That's because there is a natural patriotic bias among punters. England have always been under-priced in football tournaments.

I think there is a big feeling of Southgate fatigue now. He's done a good job vs many in our recent history but the kind of football we're playing isn't really suited to some of the best talent we have at our disposal.

Alas, it is just a friendly.

I very rarely watch England qualifiers these days, let alone friendly games as they are both usually tedious, but I did watch most of last night's game 9on my own & little to do). I didn't even know which clubs 2 of the starting England XI played for. I'd also be struggling with some of the ludicrous 13 bench warmers. Glorified training sessions, but at least last night wasn't held at a half empty Wembley.

I can't get my head around us only bringing one left back, you can't tell me playing a right back out of position is our second best option?

We are relying on Luke Shaw to stay fit all tournament

It's a monumental act of self inflicted harm by Southgate imho

I definitely feel like Southgate initially did a good job, but now we are squandering some great opportunities. It's almost as if we need a manager like KM who would enable the players to be brave and play to their potential.
England could have won the Euros last time, but it probably wouldn't have been down to Southgate, in fact if we had won on penalties it would have been in spite of Southgate setting us up to defend a lead.
It bothers me personally that by the statistics Southgate is one of the most successful England managers of all time. There is no way that he is a better manager than Venables or Hoddle, and certainly not Sir Bobby Robson.

I would still prefer Southgate to some of the foreign mercenaries we have tried over the years - Sven & Capello. Southgate isn't always the bravest or shrewdest tactically, but he's better than a lot of the alternatives. Please remember that he succeeded Fat Sam (best England manager ever on win %) & Roy Hodgson.
