Similar age will feel the same - Ipswich v Liverpool still has a real ring to it.
So many great games against them at Portman Road, like the 1-1 Emlyn Hughes screamer, Alan Brazil scoring a winner, but best one for me was the Whymark header from David Johnson no. 1’s cross.
Boom . . ‘Av it . .

Yep another old git remembering going into churchman’s in the 70s with a crate to upturn and stand on up against the corrugated fencing to the side where the new big screen is now. Liverpool was always a big game normally towards the top of the league. In the ground at 1 when the gates open and one Liverpool game in particular gates were closed at 1.30.
Lots of different types of games seen at PR in the nearly 50 years since of course!

Another 70s Churchman's goer here, armed with the obligatory milk crate. We normally found one of the bars just to the right of the goal about half way up.
TWTD. As a kid, I probably had no idea how good we had it.
This old git was in front of the Portman (Cobbold) stand during this period, but Saturday school got in the way of all bar the 75 1-0 FA Cup game. I also saw Dalgiesh score that ridiculous goal from Churchmans in 79 and the 3-0 hiding the previous August when that useless waste of money and space Muhren watched the ball sail over his head. That’s how I felt at the time. What a good judge of a player I was/am 😃.
I saw most of the Liverpool home games after that, the most memorable being the windy day FA Cup 0-0, the following August Dean Saunders cheatfest 2-2 and the 1-1 2001 game. Fortunately I was returning from the US the day of the 0-6 debacle and missed it.

Saturday 4th December 1976 was my 21st birthday. Same day Ipswich beat Liverpool 1-0 with a Mariner goal. I'm a lifelong Ipswich fan, but my scouse Dad, who is a red, was with me at Portman Road in Churchmans that day! Memorable!

I can just about remember, as little more than a wee babby, Mich D'Avray's bullet header at the Churchmans end. First game I can remember going to.
Was my first game as a 9 year old.
Pissed down with rain, coming off a bad start to the season and the Pioneer not yet a fully operational death star (upper section near the North was still unfinished if I can recall)

Same here, me, a couple of cousins and a few other kids off the Haverhill supporters bus.

'68. Lost to Liverpool 2-0. Stood on the station platform waiting for the Yarmouth train listening to the radio and Mary Hopkin sing the Beatles song Those Were The Days.

Can anyone remember where we sat around the edge of the pitch? It must of been late 60s early 70s. Im pretty sure it was against Liverpool

I sat round the edge of the pitch v Spurs one year, as a youngster.
I was right on the corner flag at North/East stands corner.
True story, Jimmy Greaves came over to take a corner, stepped backwards for his run up and stood on my hand. He looked down, patted me on the head and said “sorry son”. God it hurt, but he was my goal scoring hero, so didn’t think twice about it.

This was regularly chanted in my primary school playground early 80s. If I recall, back then round our way kids tended to support one or the other with the odd Hammers fan thrown in too.
