Love the sound of that Szmodics transfer on 18:09 - Jul 12 by portmanking | I don't think he's a JP replacement, surely? Szmodics has played the bulk of his career as the central 10. Surely he's competition for Chappers? LEFT 10: New Signing/Broadhead MIDDLE 10: Szmodics/Chaplin RIGHT 10: Hutchinson/Burns |
I'd say more like: LEFT 10: Szmodics/Broadhead MIDDLE 10: Hutchinson/Chaplin RIGHT 10: Delap/Burns With prob an attempt to sign at least 1 more for that rotation, probably 2 as Delap will be seen as a striker also

Ahadme? But yes, KM does have a good track record. Can he improve him enough for the prem? Hope so. Generally KM hasn't been signing players to play above their previous levels. AAH I guess.

...on loan. He can cover all of that rotation. Then spunk a load of cash on a CM and a lump on a keeper. Add in another Prem loan somewhere for a bit of experience and a back up keeper. Straight forward really.

Long post to tell everyone you’re absolutely loaded and can not only afford to go to centre parcs, but you can also afford to by a drink in the bar there!

I don't think we have a single keeper left in the building do we? Wouldn't surprise me if KMcK played a rush goalie next season.

Love the sound of that Szmodics transfer on 18:54 - Jul 12 with 1823 views | _clive_baker_ | Pretty underwhelming for me to move from nearly signing Philogene to being linked with a soon to be 29 year old who has spent his career in L1 & Championship. Had a phenomenal season last year admittedly, presumably the medical will focus on the condition of his back having carried Blackburn all season, but I’m not sure he’s one that will really kick us on enough at premier league level. Still, in McKenna I trust. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

My worry is that last season was an anomaly. I was hoping we wouldn’t go in for him at all, honestly, but I’ll Keep an open mind, and in McKenna, we trust. |
We can’t do better than that for £6M

Szmodics in the left 10 ? That just seems the complete wrong profile of player. He and Philogene and even Broadhead couldn't be more different. Can't see him playing there.

Agree with this Smzodics/Broadhead left, Chaplin/Hutch CAM, Burns/Hutch Right Don’t see Delap off the right. I know he did for Hull last year, but think his profile is more of an out and out 9, and feel as though that’s where he’ll be for us. Doesn’t have that explosive speed of Burns on the right.

I’ve been assuming we won’t play 4231 next year but more of a 433. We saw what happened to Burnley for eg last season when they tried to play the same way in the Prem as the championship. But exciting times and I hope you’re right about Sammie.

What makes you think we’ll play a 4-3-3 instead of the 4-2-3-1. Our system is engrained in us, it’s what we are accustomed to, and what has bought us success for back to back seasons. I don’t see any reason to really change it, the only tweak maybe Burns slotting to RWB if we are backs to the wall.

Watching philogene's highlights reel (i know it was a highlights reel and obviously not comprehensive), he did a surprising amount of running in behind. That's smodzics' game. Not broadhead's but we know mckenna likes to have slightly different options in a position.

Yeah, I'm not sure we'd be stocking up on so many 10's if we were going to move to 4-3-3! It looks like we'll play a very similar system but with more pace and dynamism in the front 4.

I'd say there's more chance of us going to wing-backs and three at the back than 433. Burns drops to RWB, tuanzebe comes in at RCB, similar to how we played in mckenna's first few games. But i don't think the basic game plan will change unless it spectacularly doesn't work.

Age profile (given he doesn't have Prem experience) is less ideal as won't be one with a resale value. I'd be happy with it as long as we do get the Philogene type younger signing as well. Sheaf (or say a Downes) is the critical one for me. Obvs a keeper as well.

My thinking is that we won't play the same pattern every game, that we will have competition for every place in the team and that will make us more difficult to figure out and set up against. No idea if I am right but i base this on the Premier League being a division with three sections; the Man City and Liverpool elite who we can only hope to grind out a draw against at best, the steady as they go middle section like Wolves and Palace who we have a good chance against if we do not surrender the midfield and then the relegation candidates like Everton and Bournemouth who we have to put to the sword if possible. Different game plan needed for each type of team, much more so than the Championship where almost every team might be a promotion possibility or relegation candidate at the start of the season.
