I assume you mean Newsome. He’s from California and so is Harris so there’s a constitutional problem with that.

I like mark kelly (senator, Arizona) as a smart choice. I sort of know Josh Shapiro (governor, pa) through a few circles but want him to wait to 2028 (unless Harris wins obviously)

Mark Kelly is interesting. Swing State, astronaut, served in the Navy. He has credibility on Gun violence given what happened to his wife and their experience and probably wont ever run for the big job himself.

Yep. Especially with turnout a big issue. I think if the Dems can make Abortion the issue, Get out and vote and stop a nationwide abortion ban. People will show out. Biden was pretty lax on this issue but Harris will have more enthusiasm.

I'm with you, this election is not a foregone conclusion. Harris has a lot of positives when it comes to the US electoral system. i think the republicans need to be careful, especially in places like Georgia and Arizona. These swing states are back in play.

And a VP from a swing state could make big difference in one of them. Not sure who is being mentioned on that front. And I read there has been a suspicion that polls have been over-generous to the GOP; results in actual elections where MAGA candidates have stood have tended to be worse than poll showings.

Josh Shapiro, Mark Kelly, Roy Cooper, Andy Beshear are the 4 names being mentioned. All fit the bill, all would appeal to moderates and all of them are terrible matchups for JD Vance.

If they run on a platform of 'Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others', they'll win comfortably.

Someone in the BTL comments on the Guardian website suggested Stormy Daniels, which I thought was quite funny.

Reproductive rights could well be a major factor in the election - they have been in state elections to MAGA's detriment - and the Dems do better among female voters in any case.

Yes, had that in mind too given recent regressions in law. Not got time atm but might be interesting to match up this map with key states in presidential elections -

That has made a difference in state elections, pro-life MAGA candidates have tended to fare poorly.

Kamala Harris is a bit of a mystery figure to me, but she is expected to address the media from the White House later today, so let's hope she hits the ground running.

The Democrats have to win Pennsylvania to win the election. Josh Shapiro is the most popular politician in Pennsylvania. so it’s really a no brainer.

Although CNN saying his Jewishness could be an obstacle as it won’t be popular with “the squad”. Personally I think he’d be mad to give up his governorship for an election they are likely to lose.

Agree, I think it makes the Democrats very strong in an area where Trump and the Republicans are weak when it comes to appealing to independents rather than his base.

Anyone pro abortion would already be voting Democrat.
The majority of females would already be voting democrat.

Not sure where they are expecting to pick up the extra votes.

Unless they get a strong VP then Kamala is going to get slaughtered as she is absolutely useless.

She's out of the traps quickly, by the look of things, and I think that's exactly the way to go. Like to see her doing some live Q&As as soon as possible, because I doubt Tr*mp will want to take her on in person and I think she needs to connect with the floaters ASAP.

Think you are expecting more than she is capable of cause she will get eaten alive.

If they were able to replace her then they would in a heartbeat but its nots like here and only the electorate can vote in a president.

If they stray from that and promote their own candidate in above Harris then who knows what the fallout would be.

I’ve driven Shapiro in my car and his kids went to the camp I work at so met him a few times. He attended a school I taught at (before I got there) so a lot of teachers there knew him. A really good friend is currently teaching Shapiro’s son for his upcoming barmitzvah.

He is very popular in Pennsylvania - every time he has run for election he has outperformed the democrat vote meaning he gets a lot of moderate republicans to vote for him

I kind of hoped that when Obama got in in they might, as a nation, grow the f**k up a bit. Instead, they've been throwing ever more elaborate temper tantrums.

I think that's the right decision. I'm not sure if Harris is popular enough to defeat Trump, though.

I agree fully. I don’t think USA is ready for a female president. But don’t be so sure about Trump getting in. MAGA is all you hear about, the Biden/Harris supporters keep there mouth shut and do there talking when voting. The only reason they think Trump is winning is because he do all the shouting.

Yep, exactly this. In some down ticket elections in the past 18mths, DEMS have outperformed polling in some cases as much as 40pts, the polling has been ghastly. Striking down ROE has galvanized a lot of people, women mostly.

Also worth adding here for those claiming Harris isn’t popular, she’s absolutely smashed the single day record for fundraising for Dems. Far from over. I’ll be voting for her for sure.
