Where does this leave Morsy? 09:12 - Aug 15 with 8119 viewsAsa

A three of Phillips, Cajuste and Morsy could be rotated nicely based on opposition but, as much as I'd build a statue of Morsy right now, if Phillips gets back to his best and Cajuste plays to his ability then it's almost impossible to see how Morsy could stay in the midfield two.

In itself that shows an incredibly ruthless approach from McKenna and Ashton who won't have taken lightly a scenario where it's entirely possible the inspirational leader will struggle to make the starting line up if we get what we expect to get from these two signings.

That presumably leaves Taylor as a bench option and quite possible Luongo even becomes at threat of moving on in January, which I think (again as much as I adore the bloke) was always going to be beyond him in terms of an ambitious lower half Premier League side.

Fair play to the ownership. None of us want this side gutted but have to be realistic that some of our heroes were never going to cut it when it came to establishing ourselves at the top table. But many a side would have come up, and added a sprinkle of quality to accompany what they have and perhaps be too sentimental where captains and leaders are concerned.

I personally think Morsy with the right partner could thrive at this level but in the higher intensity games last year against Leciester and Leeds, Morsy couldn't get near them for te first 45-60 minutes in some of those games.

It's a bold move to bring in two players that are better (on paper by some distance) rather than just one and a couple of players to compete as back ups.

Of course Phillips will need to be eased in. Quite possible Morsy is outstanding with one alongside him and stays in the team. But you can see the progression already towards a short term and long term replacement.

Shows the level of ambition if even Morsy now has to be talked about, entirely realistically, as having work to do to stay in the team as the season unfolds.

Amen brother.

Having said that, any signing which can motivate our skipper even more to impress can only be a good thing!

Morsy's going to start plenty of games, don't worry about that.

We have next to no depth in the middle, we were always going to strengthen but it doesn't mean anything for Morsy's prospects.

I completely agree that Morsy should be first name on the team sheet, but you can't imagine that one of Cajuste or Phillips would be too happy about being left out

It means he does not have to worry quite so much about injuries and yellow cards, We relied on him so much in CM and filled with dread if he was not available.

Different game these days especially with five subs. You might not start, but there's a good chance you'll finish.

It's not. Nor should it be.

But in two or three months if two proven top flight players are playing superbly then it leaves us with a dilemma unless Morsy is playing at a level even we didn't know he was capable of.

He's an absolute legend and I love the guy. But it's hugely ambitious to even be giving ourselves this potential dilemma if the two loan signings pan out how Kieran hopes they will.

generally get players who play above themselves even for a year. If we can get that out of the King then if he's happy becoming a squad player will be ok. Replacing his leadership week in week out will be tough though.

It means you rotate whatever 5 midfielders we have and keep Morsy exactly where he is!!

i think Phillips might take 2 or 3 months to get up to speed. He's not played many games in the last 2 - 3 years, his body won't be up to the rigours of prem football for a while you would suspect.

Reckon the Swede will start before him and we might see the best of Philllips post Xmas.

Could easily be Morsy +2. Can see us beefing up the midfield on occasions

If you want to rip the heart out of the team and start again 2 days before the season starts , it leaves us knowing just how much you know about football in general and Ipswich Town FC specifically

Cajuste to play AML

I think that this could see Taylor playing further up field in one of the 10 roles, this will then give him a bit more freedom

The PL is more of a squad game than any of the other leagues. All players will know you'll spend time in the first 11, some on the bench and some watching from the stands.

But Morsy will spend more time starting games than any other player.

Morsy will be 33 next month, and has never played in the Premier League.

I love Morsy, and hope that he makes the step up, but it is prudent to be well covered with suitable experience at this level.

Town reconsidering position on Cajuste given Phillips moving forward. I still think get him but whether we can afford both and further additions will dictate.

He’ll start if fitness is an issue for these loan signings.

But, I know this will be unpopular, I think Morsy will struggle in the prem. A bit slower than he needs to be and not quite strong enough. VAR won’t be his friend. So I think he might be on the bench on occasion.

yeah a bit stop start isn't it.

The cup game looks ideal for him to start and get 75+ minutes.
