I'm still confused about how I'm going to watch the game on Saturday 10:37 - Aug 22 with 22407 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

on TV. I have a VPN. Don't have a subscription to any streaming services (that have football). What's an easy, straightforward option that's definitely going to work, and cheap as poss? I was quite happy paying a tenner for Town TV but now it seems all such a faff. All I want to do is watch my team!

Maybe Phil or someone can write a proper article explaining the options, I can't be the only one confused.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Just go on to fawanews and click on the link to Man City vs. Ipswich?

Time and a place really, but I'd just prefer for it to be guaranteed, good quality and reliable all season (and £120 for every game isn't really expensive).

I don't understand why people are so keen to mess around with VPN's and part with cash for something that's available without either. Every game will be on there, as well as every other sides games. Not sure of the legality, but then I'm not sure of it when using a VPN either.

Only one thing for it.

We propose to Sealand that they show 3pm Ipswich games as they are sovereign state. It'll be like the pirate radio days.

Nope. If that were so you would be able to tell me the law, which you can't.

The laws will be those that relate to copyright and licensing.

The games are only licensed to be shown on SKY, and TNT in the UK. If you are watching it another way, you are in breach of the Premier League's copyright and how it is licensed for transmission in the UK.

Whether or not an individual would be prosecuted is doubtful, but that is the legal position in the UK.

The quality is garbage and for me it keeps stalling and stopping. I also cant' easily watch that on my tv, only my PC second monitor.

Purchase a firestick. Visit your local pub and pick up the telegram contact for dodgy provider. Contact them and for the price of £50 and a 10 minute setup you are golden for the whole season. Paying for any subscription is a mugs game these days.

Below from TrustedReviews (others are available and say the same);

There are no UK laws prohibiting the use of a VPN while using streaming services such as Netflix.

That said, using a VPN to bypass the geo-restrictions of a streaming service will likely infringe the terms and conditions you agreed to when subscribing. As a result, we wouldn’t recommend doing so.

UK laws are very different when it comes to illegally downloading copyrighted content. Many people who break piracy laws will use a VPN to do so, as it hides your IP address from third parties, making it difficult to establish your identity. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get caught.

If you are caught illegally stealing or sharing pirated content, Stuart Miller Solicitors claims that this can result in up to a £5000 fine and five-year imprisonment.

To summarise, the act of using a VPN is perfectly legal in the UK. But using a VPN to commit other crimes, such as piracy, can still land you in trouble.

So basically, the VPN to other countries suggestions are fine. Whereas the others that Clive and others are suggesting about using pirated content are not.

Fair enough.

I can't say I've used it a whole heap of times as I'm at home games and half the away ones, but I've used it in the past to watch premier league and playoffs towards the back of last season and always did the job. Might need to refresh it once in a half or something but no real dramas.

It's a UEFA law (Article 48). Though technically not a UK law as such, by watching content you're not entitled to watch in your region, you could be prosecuted in the UK under piracy laws.

I've always thought of piracy as being one of the great English cultural traditions, and so it can never be a crime.

I’m the same (in that I’m at the games 75% of the time) so the few I want to watch at home I just want it to work on my TV in good quality - Town TV was good for that and that option doesn’t exist anymore so had to go further afield.

Kodi is free and once setup up can watch anything you want, sports, movies, boxsets and anything and everything else.

Upfront cost for a decent android box would be about 60 quid.

I have subscriptions with Disney+ and Premier...I will try logging in online with a VPN set up and see if it works.

The game is on Disney+ here in Chile (they have all the ESPN broadcasts for Latin America). Commentary will only be available in Spanish, but the upside is their main PL commentary team are a pair of Argentinians who sing every time there is a goal.

Can't wait for Chaplin's first PL goal, reckon the chant they come up with for him will be something about him being 'el enano del planeta gol' (the dwarf from planet goal) or something equally stupid.

It is breaking the law, in the same way as watching a pirated DVD or downloading a dodgy torrent is technically breaking the law. Nobody ever gets prosecuted for it as you say, but to say you aren't breaking any laws is wrong.

Its not illegal to stream in this country only to have a physical copy, ie dvd, cd etc.

If it was illegal to stream then they would need to shut down youtube etc

Tbf, I'd never heard of the Fawa site until you mentioned it. Tried it this arvo for various live games and it works a treat, I must say. Although I imagine their servers are under considerably more strain at 3pm on a Saturday?

I've signed up to Fubo for a month to give it a go. I didn't think £17 for the month was too bad. I didn't want to go all in for a year to find the quality wasn't great or as Gav mentioned, have them block IP addresses. I'm with Windscibe, who seen to have quite a few Canadian servers so hopefully won't be the case.

I've used dodgy streams and had IPTV in the past but always had issues with quality, buffering or streams/channels just not working. My IPTV provider has been putting the price up every year too so it wasn't as cheap this year and was heading closer to the price of a year's sub to Fubo. I'd rather know it's going to work and be of a good standard even if it costs than be stuck constantly checking different dodgy streams when it goes wrong, as it did at least a good handful of times each season for the last few years. There's nothing more frustrating than settling down to watch a match and have the steam cut out a few minutes in to the game.

Possibly, I can't recall watching a Saturday 3pm on there tbh. This weekend will be my first test of that.

I did watch a big boxing match once that was PPV on SKY. Got it up on there and it was pretty much seamless. Watched Norwich v Leeds PO Semi, definitely watched QPR v Leeds as well but neither of those were a Saturday.

Had Leicester v Spurs on Monday and that was good quality.

Never had any issues with it tbh, beats paying for subscriptions but each to their own, and as I say got no idea how legal it is but I'll take my chances on that. I would think those behind it will be targeted before the millions of viewers.

I'm not sure anyone can help you on this forum because i think you are asking us how to break the law.

Only way to legally watch premier league football in the UK is to either be in the stadium or watch on Sky/BT (I'm unsure if Amazon retained access this season)

It’s quite remarkable how sons are so adamant that no law is being ‘broken’ To the extent that they are giving categorical legal advice on here despite being utterly clueless.

There is a distinction between civil liability and criminal liability.

It is entirely possible that one opens oneself up to a civil claim if one is using services without paying, or without paying the entirety of the contractual price in this jurisdiction. Whether you’ll get caught, and whether any tv company would bring a claim, are different questions.

There is also a criminal offence under s11 of the Fraud Act 2006 (merely by way of example) in respect of dishonestly obtaining services. Again, whether you’d be caught, and whether it would be deemed in the public interest to prosecute are different questions from whether you’d be liable. Clearly the authorities are going to want to go after those offering the services fraudulently rather than the end user in most cases. But there are no guarantees (just like with the end user in offences in other spheres).

But if you know that the price of the service in the U.K. is high, you use a VPN to get round some or all of this fee, and you represent you’re in a different country when you’re not, contrary to the terms on which the service is offered, then you’d be at risk in respect of a fraud charge.

A civil claim can be brought for fraud, or simply a quantum meruit claim for damages/debt which is not a statutory claim, and which would not rely on dishonesty but merely using a service for which payment should be made.

There is risk attached, at least at the theoretical level.

Good luck to anyone and everyone enjoying their football this season, and I think it’s appalling how much you’d have to pay to get every streaming service. But let’s not pretend that because something occurs on the internet it must be risk free and 100% above board.

If you are "outside of UK" you might find this page useful...

155 countries and not one of the being the UK. I know they pay for our signings, but fk Sky and fk TNT/BT.

It’s a shame the clubs have lost the rights to stream. That was at least fan-focussed.

I’d argue that subscribing to a paid service that doesn’t have a UK equivalent, paying the subscription price in full and accessing it via legal means isn’t a fraudulent act.
