The important stuff….the kits! 08:16 - Aug 29 with 6460 viewsitfcjoe

Is it me or do they look really poor quality this year - a bit like the Villa Castore ones where they just get so wet so quickly and just hold all the water so look a wet look kit. Also we def should have worn pink last night as the away clashes with other dark kits.

And quality wise, my kids have got a couple of them and the 3rd pink kit and the 3rd GK kit they have are covered in plucks already, it’s like being back in the 90s! There previous ines have all been well worn and not had any - feels like a massive drop in quality this year . Maybe linked to Umbro being taken over by Castore?

if they have only been worn once and are already in that state I’d take them back to the shop for a refund/replacement…you would for any other item that’s not up to scratch…

Yep, my son's away shirt is already showing signs of wear and tear and he hasn't worn it a huge amount.

I've not been overly impressed with Umbro if I'm honest, the first seasons home shirt was decent but all the others have been more of a miss than hit for me personally. The sizing is pretty bad too.

Wouldn't surprise me if we change next season, especially now Umbro are under Castore now.

Have you seen Wolves kit manufacturer? never heard of them, wonder if it's a bit like Punch we had with it being in house?

Pink kit would have been useful tonight by Dubtractor 28 Aug 2024 20:27
The kits are a bit clashy when the ball is on the far side.

Kits were really tough to differentiate on the telly last night.

Watching lower-league games, both live and a lot of highlights on my computer, I notice a lot of games where it's really hard to see who's who in a crowded penalty area. Clubs are so keen to have 'cool' kits they don't actually think about the spectators' experience. (It is worse in the lower leagues, where the floodlights aren't as good.)

Goodman's goalkeeping kit was also about the same tone as all the outfield players, so it was a mess.

Town should either have worn pink, or worn white shorts with that beetroot shirt.

I thought it was hard to distinguish the sides last night on tv, but thought that was my issue due to my colourblindness, and / or Wimbledon's floodlights not being as powerful as those we will see in the Prem.

Glad others have said it as well - that burgandy kit is to dark to wear against a blue side.

The Villa Castore comparison definitely feels right, it was noticeable last night how much they were holding and the quality looked worse as the night went on.

Said it loads of times, but the sooner we get back to Adidas the better! The other options just aren't as good - got a Macron Wrexham one from two seasons ago and the badge is peeling off already and i've not worn it that heavily.

Adidas kits were better quality for sure. I think Umbro beat them hands down on the design though as the most recent Adidas kits we had were very boring.

The quality of all clothing from the club has gradually been decreasing. Polo/T shirts are effectively ruined after a few washes, whereas previously they would be good for 2-3 seasons. I even have one now which I only use when I'm DIY'ing and it still washes up fine, and it most be 5 years old

I assume it's because we're now using cheap Chinese manufacturers and they're cutting costs by using inferior quality materials.

I simply dislike the maroon, though not as much as the previous maroon shirt we had (can’t remember how we fared the season we wore that - can anyone else?).

Give me Adidas over Umbro any day. Such a bland design. Even if Adidas are a bit rinse and repeat, the repeat is far superior to anything anyone in the Umbro design team conjure up.

I think that goes for a lot of clothing these days unfortunately. Castore a great example of this, they started out with the aim of producing high quality sports clothing and did a very good job in the early days. Then they took on investment and went after teamwear which lead to cheap manufacturing and poor quality.

The one I got in Istanbul is terrible. Worst 7 quid I've ever spent.

Speaking of kits, why didn't we wear the pink one last night? It wasn't easy to distinguish the two teams at times.

I'd say the Umbro kits are anything but bland. In fact our kits have been lauded by a number of prominent people in the industry.

The first home shirt, blackout shirt, plus this year's away and third kits all had some well-designed features that were personal to the club and last year's kit was a nice homage to the 99-01 home shirt.

That will be a strange day if a town kit ever ends up in there or even JD. Guess there's a good chance if we stay up and go with Adidas or Nike.

Been banging this drum for a while but the fact the designs printed into the fabric of the torso aren’t repeated on the sleeves, or in the case of the maroon away even the back, really makes them seem a bit cheap.

My reissued 92 white away has a zigzag pattern in the fabric of body and sleeves and it feels and looks really premium.

I think the home shirt looks like you are wearing a bigger and darker blue t shirt, underneath the shirt.

100% agree, been saying exactly the same since that first home shirt in 22/23.
Initially it looked interesting, until you realise that it's only the front panel that's interesting and the rest is just a very plain shirt, all made from the exact same cheap material.
They repeated the trick with the away shirt last year and again with the away shirt this year.
It just feels like the fanbase gets caught up in it being "bespoke" because of the front panel, ignoring that the rest of it is even more cut and paste than anything we've had previously.
The Adidas kits always had different types of material, under arms, in panels on sides etc etc. Far superior.
And the benchwear is even worse, not just basic materials but even more uninspiring designs and colourways. Then with a crazy patterned one thrown into the mix.

Agree with Joe's original point about the kits having that wet look, although I believe it might have been raining lightly during the game last night (definitely a few spots as entering the ground).

Also, the floodlights were appalling, a few around me all struggling to see the ball at far end.

100%. Fulham have the adidas euros template and it looks dynamite. I’d rather have a understated but quality kit than flash but superficial. Especially given our current position. We’re not Napoli look at me look at me, we’re Ipswich Town and we’re here to survive, don’t mind us!

You remember Adidas from the last time right, the template kits everyone moaned about ?

What’s wrong with a wet t-shirt look? And yes, the third kit (or not having a second kit so close to our first kit) would have been better last night. I’d like to see a return of something like the old yellow and blue for the away kit.

I never minded. They're still our kit whether they are 'template' or not. They looked mint and that's all that mattered.
