Striker signing less likely than likely. Will look to do everything to do it, but otherwise keep working with squad.

WTF.

If we get no striker whatsoever I think my head's gonna be gone.

Szmodics can lead the line if needs be and be more advanced if Delap was injured and Hirst stayed injured forever so don’t think it would be the end of the world-

The point is we shouldn't have left it so late to get our first-choice striker in. It should've been a number-one priority this summer. Hirst's good but any team that stays up needs an elite-level finisher.

We've been in for strikers the whole window. There is a reason why it's so difficult to land a great one.

We're "asking questions" after a £100m + transfer window?

In the system we play, as many goals come from Hutchinson, Burns etc as a number nine. We're not in the "nobody scores except Daryl Murphy" era anymore.

Now that's the truth, our tens score enough or have in the last two years

Leaving yourself short of goals is a crime at any level. It's beyond comprehension at PL level. Hirst and Delap as our main strikers? With AAH to buzz around chasing paper bags?

We should've either saved more of our kitty for a top #9 if it's a finance issue now.

We’ll still score goals, that’s not really been the job of the #9 in our side under McKenna.

I doubt it has been left to the last day on purpose.

It isn't as though there are hundreds of prem quality number 9s available and want to play for Ipswich.

Anyone wold have thought Ashton has been laying in Barbados with his trotters up.

Give the man a break, all the "Ashton needs to be questioned", he is a major factor we are where we are for god sake.

If we don't sign a number 9, the only fair thing to say is that we failed in brining in a player that we clearly wanted/needed. Otherwise it was about as good a job of recruitment as you are going to get. The whole thing going on while we are trying to get the stadium up to scratch and the biggest challenge of all, getting the players ready for the Premier League.

Denkey, Latte Lath, Akor Adams, Dolberg. Even Odsonne Edouard and Lyle Foster would be a better option than going it alone with an unfit Hirst and Delap.

How's Gerrard Buabo doing, we were nursing him along with a niggly injury recovery last season weren't we? but he made some good sub appearances. Might he be capable of developing & making the step up if fit?

It wouldn't be 'against the run of play' if it happens. Took us two windows to get Hirst in L1; took us two windows to get Hirst competition in Champ. Whether we'd be able to attract a PL quality striker in Jan would depend so much on our league position by then, so much more important to land one this time around really. Sending good luck to Mark!

Based on rumours we have been in for or enquired about most of those names you have mentioned.

Maybe the club don't want to sell or maybe the player doesn't want to come to us.

Maybe KM has been asked and has told Ashton the player doesnt suit his plans / isnt worth what the club/player is asking.

If Ashton went and spent £30m on Lath would you be happy with that deal?

The point is we should've prioritised a new #9 before some of the other new faces in the squad. Leaving a #9 to the last minute as we get closer to our FFP limit was always going to be madness.

Truly *immense* pressure on Delap's shoulders now.

Ashton has made a schoolboy error; didn't 'save' at the beginning of the transfer window. Now he can't go back and put things right.

I'm sure some of our supporters think it is that easy.

FFS some of you. This isn't FM24. We're a Premier League minnow and odds on to go back down in most people's expectations, meaning it's not as easy as you seem to think, persuading established PL players to come to us this year. Next season, assuming we stay up, our pulling power will be hugely increased but for now we've had the biggest transfer window in the club's history and you're whining like spoiled teenagers. Get a grip.

I think we have to sign the right players. Absolutely no point in spending £20-30 million on a striker who won't cut it, just to placate the supporters. It is not such an easy sell right now either, we played 3, lost 3.

So we shouldn't have signed any other player until we got a #9?

I am sure a #9 was a priority certainly after Hirst got injured but maybe no one was suitable so we have waited. We then thought Broja was the answer then his medical came up with an issue.

Yeah to my untrained eye Fotis was our chief outfield target behind Omari. And Broja must have been up there too, given how long it's rumbled on and the quoted fees involved. It won't be lack for lack of trying if we fall short this summer.

Every striker that gets mentioned on here gets slammed for being not good enough and a waste of money so he is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt.

Fans seem to think signing the perfect striker is a simple task and everyone must want to come to the mighty Ipswich

People also link ridiculously outrageous targets because they're bored

Frustrating if we don't land a striker, but the Broja injury wasn't something we could have known about, and we know that attempts have been made in lots of other directions. Some of those mentioned would not greatly have improved what we have, and with the sums of money involved, it's better to sit on our hands and have a trademark excellent January window rather than splurge over the odds with no gain, for the sake of it.

There's an argument that we should have been in for Kieffer Moore as a squad player, and I have some sympathy with that, but when he was available we thought we could do a lot better (and to be fair, KMac must see Moore to Delap as a big upgrade, both in the short and long term).

If Delap starts putting chances away in the same manner as that penalty, I think we will be just fine. And Sammie doesn't seem to be capable of /not/ scoring.

Frustrating, but not disastrous by any means. Toys to be kept in prams.
