900th career goal for Cristiano Ronaldo.... on 08:50 - Sep 6 with 4002 views | Marshalls_Mullet | It's an amazing record. Playing 900 matches would be amazing, let alone 900 goals. Having said that, I would discount any Saudi goals from that total. But even then, its still amazing.

i always preferred Ronaldo because he played in England and watching his development at United has good to watch and i feel like he's got the absolute maximum out of his ability a she's not as naturally gifted as Messi. The last 3-4 years, have soured my view of him, i think he's gone too far with his view of himself and what he can now do in pursuit of individual awards and goals. What he done at United at the end, considering the standing he had at that club was disrespectful.

Once you start getting to that echelon of players, it all becomes highly subjective. It is difficult to say who is greater than the other, as we all rate players differently and prefer different attributes. Personally, I have always preferred Messi having seen Barca play a few times each season when he was there (my Dad was a Barca fan). I have always considered Messi the more naturally talented one but Ronaldo the hardest worker. Ronaldo's mindset is just unbelievable, to have that focus, that drive, even at his age is phenomenal.

900th career goal for Cristiano Ronaldo.... on 10:10 - Sep 6 with 3728 views | blueasfook | Agree. Ronaldo's achievement is amazing but Messi was always more naturally talented and better to watch. It's a shame they never played together. Imagine a team with Messi on the right and Ronaldo on the left. You'd need 10 defenders lol.

Gerard Pique mentioned in an interview that Ronaldo come close to joining Barcelona before eventually switching to Real Madrid from Man Utd. In the same side, Ronaldo and Messi might well have prevented each other from becoming the players that they developed into. Or Barcelona might well have dominated everything for at least a decade.

The Messi v Ronaldo debate I always say Messi is the best "player" but Ronaldo is the best "goalscorer" If you had 15 mins left, and you needed a goal, which one do you bring on?

I agree, Messi is a natural. Which actually makes Ronaldo's achievements possibly greater? I'm not saying that Messi hasn't had to or doesn't work hard but the fact that Ronaldo isn't as naturally gifted, the work he's put in to get there and maintain it is likely more than Messi.

Both of them (and then prepare myself to receive the inevitable P45 for leaving them both on the bench in the first place)

Messi. If he doesn't score it, he will provide it to someone else to score. There is no correct answer as we have different views on what makes one better than the other. Both truly fantastic players and arguably the best 2 players to ever play the game. (behind Jonathan Douglas of course)

Pele's record of 1,279 goals in 1,363 games includes those scored in friendly matches, of which Santos played a huge number. He scored 569 times in 583 proper games for Santos, plus 77 in 92 games for Brazil. If you are going to discount Ronaldo's goals in Saudi Arabia, I won;t recognise Pele's goals for New York Cosmos in the NASL.

Fairly sure Messi has a better goals per minute as well as more goals off the bench. Better finisher as well statistically. So Messi. Ronaldo is only better at heading.

Would agree with that and would add that while Messi is the more naturally gifted ‘technician’ I think Ronaldo’s got more attributes. Physicality, pace (in his prime), ridiculous in the air too. 11 Ronaldo’s would beat 11 Messi’s I think. That’s not to say he’s the better player.

The Ronaldo argument is lessened by having to caveat “in his prime” imo. Messi will still be a wizard creating outrageously until the day he pops his clogs. And had more goals to boot. But, Ronaldo is totally up there with him. The rivalry has added some spice, but on another level it’s a shame they played in the same era. Both deserve nothing but praise and adulation. They’ve been phenomenal. 2 once in a Century players at the same time.

Ronaldo doesn’t ‘deserve adulation and praise’ for his off field antics - those he was fined and punished for and those that remain paid-off allegations. His career is also stained by some of his antics on the pitch ,especially more recently.
