If you could add a brand new rule to football, what would it be? on 08:06 - Oct 2 with 1738 views | Europablue | Offsides have to involve a material advantage, if the attacker is an inch in front of the defender it is not offside. Basically, if it's not visible to the linesman, then it's not offside.
If you could add a brand new rule to football, what would it be? on 08:13 - Oct 2 with 1702 views | Churchman | Retrospective 10 game ban for obvious cheating including diving, feigning injury, additional 10 game ban for screaming when going down untouched. All games are filmed so do-able. Marginal stuff - player gets the benefit of the doubt. Only the captain talks to the ref. If anyone else does, 10 yard penalty option for the opposition Rugby Union style and a yellow card for the perpetrator. No Alice Bands, coloured boots or gloves in winter. Shirts to be tucked in at all times. Bench maximum: manager, coach, physio with bucket, subs. That’s it. There was a cast of dozens mooching past me on Sunday.

Don't like that, I've heard about all the trouble those blackshorts caused in the East End during the 1930s...

When she grabs the mic and sings that's it. Both teams will rush to the changing rooms and the crowd will hurry to the exits so that don't have to hear her off-key rendition of Aga-do. No Fergie time allowed. |
When a side is winning two nil, the opposition are temporarily allowed the use of sub-machine guns. There's a gigantic chasm across the half way line and each side has to play in its own section. Clowns, people doing silly walks, and whoopee cushions are all injected onto the pitch on a regular basis, by Jimmy Greaves. * other cliché-based new rules are possible.

If you could add a brand new rule to football, what would it be? on 09:30 - Oct 2 with 1590 views | _clive_baker_ | Linos not putting their flag up now when the player is quite blatantly 100 yards offside. I get it if its close, but some are ludicrous. Just wastes time and risks injury unnecessarily. My change though would be to bin VAR entirely. None of this each team gets a challenge thing, just in the bin with it and let the ref get on with refereeing the game. Automated offsides can come in if its proven to work and goal line tech to stay.

penalty and yellow card if a defender manhandles an opponent in the box from a set piece and free kick if attacker does likewise to a defender…If this happens anywhere else on the pitch it’s a free kick so why not when it’s in the box?

If I recall correctly, this came out of a discussion about how often Scowcroft got grappled with. I may have suggested a shirt held together by velcro so that, with excessive grip, a defender would be left with, say, a hundred millimetre square of material. Would have worked OK with some of those horrendous Nodge jazzy top designs from back then but I think Town shirts were always a bit too restrained to be able to hide multiple joins.
