The clock is only on when the ball is on the pitch and in play.

Give the fans the 90 minutes of football they paid for.

That's an away win for Villa then.

The Captain of each team gets to use a Tazer once during the game.

It can be used for any reason as long as it’s on an opposition player without any penalty, including the keeper.

So, it could be used on a player running through, a defender jumping at a corner. Somebody feigning injury. Or simple and plain, the Captain just doesn’t like the look of a bloke.

Think of the entertainment!

Electric fence around the boundary of the technical area with only the fourth official having access to switch the power off when substitutions are made. That'll keep flipping Arteta in his technical area.

Having watched bits of the Arsenal game last night, I'd applaud the first opposition player to give him a slap as he stands on the touchline gesticulating wildly.

Change the offside rule back to how it used to be.

Bookings for feigning injury (Eg, holding face when tapped on the leg) and have them applied retrospectively if it’s only picked up by cameras after the game)

It grates my gears when a player who is obviously offside plays the ball, but the flag doesn't go up straight away. Players can risk injury chasing a cause that shouldn't be happening.

Change to offside rule. Cannot be offside if the ball is passed forwards from within your own half, as long as you are positioned between half wayline and edge of penalty area.

Also, have to be offside at time of pass and when you receive the ball

Make the goal bigger.

Increases in average male height since the 1860s suggest the goal should be about 18 inches wider and 12 inches taller.

Coloured boots to be assigned to players based on their skill levels - a bit like karate. Become good enough and you are allowed to wear the coveted black boots.

With only the highest scorer from last year allowed to wear gold boots and the assist winner wear silver boots. Golden gloves for the best keeper from last year.

Black boots for balon dor winners only

For every foul you commit you have to carry a bag of sugar. No more red and yellow cards, you can commit as many fouls as you want but you have to carry a bag of sugar around for each one. For serious foul play it's a bag of cement.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

If a player is injured by a foul and has to have attention on the field and then go off. This gives the fouling team an advantage. The person who fouled him should also go off until the player returns or is substituted. If all subs have been used then he stays off for the rest of the game.

It's time to take the beautiful game back to its basics.

Do away with all the officials but have all the VAR technology that's currently in place.

Get someone to blow a whistle at the start and then again after 45 minutes. Same again for the second half.

Fans get to watch 90 minutes of football with no stoppages for cards or foul play. No free kicks or penalties. Just throw-ins and corners based on player discretion and honesty.

Then during the week on Match of the Day 2 there's a full review of the matches by qualified impartial officials.

Offside goals get ruled out.
Penalty goals get awarded for fouls in the box.
Players can get awarded multiple yellow and red cards and will be punished accordingly. So if you commit 2 bookable offences and one worthy of a sending off, you get 2 retrospective reds and miss the next 4 or 6 games.

There are more goals to celebrate (although they might not stand following review). No time wasting. No rubbish refs. Managers have to be aware of their own players antics and substitute them accordingly to prevent player sanctions on review. Players take responsibility for their own fair play. Fans enjoy 90 minutes of football.

Shoot-outs

In the inaugural season of Major League Soccer, they had shoot-outs instead of penalties if the scores were level at 90m. Watched one the dullest games (NY Metrostars (RIP) v LA Galaxy) brought to life by a shoot-out which rewards skill. The player takes the ball at the half-way line and goes one-on-one with the keeper.
