Yeah exactly, the morals are admirable, but most organisations won’t follow given the impact on commercial income and fan engagement (in that order).
Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 14:08 - Nov 14 with 6499 views | bluelou | yes I would. I've just joined BlueSky personally and will be coming off Twitter. Theres too much at stake now.

I would applaud any brand that decides the stain of being associated with the ambulatory refrigerator and the toxic wasteland he has created outweighs whatever benefit there apparently is from being on it. Yeah, the people not wanting to be associated with a billionaire fascist who'd dedicated himself to spreading bigotry, conspiracy theories, misinformation and open corruption definitely seem like the bad guys here.

I want to be no part of X either after what Musk has done to it. I will take a look at Bluesky.
Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 17:23 - Nov 14 with 5742 views | wrightsrightglove | Used to use it a lot but you now have to sift through hundreds of bot comments to find the genuine fans so it’s become less and less worth it. If there was an alternative similar platform without all the bots, hate and Musk then I’d be all for it.

Personally have no interest in Twitter, seems to attract Narcissistic Self-obsessed individuals who pontificate on everything and act in a sanctimonious manner alike many other forums(Obviously not TWTD).

I'm gradually weening myself off twitter, and am on Bluesky. A fair community of ITFC bods on there now.

Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 18:08 - Nov 14 with 5510 views | TheBoyBlue | I would support them leaving. Most social media is an almost unfettered mass of hatred and lies, but Musk seems to positively embrace and encourage it.

Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 18:12 - Nov 14 with 5473 views | thebooks | They obviously should come off Twitter. Then syndicate to other platforms from a website RSS feed. An ITFC Mastodon instance would be pretty cool as well. Bluesky will go the way of Twitter eventually (private startup, main funder is a Crypto VC firm), but can see why it’s having its moment. (I know that won’t make any sense to all but 2 or 3 of you, but it’d be the most robust, flexible setup.) [Post edited 14 Nov 2024 18:15]

Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 18:30 - Nov 14 with 5392 views | Dubtractor | On the question on the op, regardless of my own political viewpoint (not a fan of Musk!), I think it's dangerous ground for the club to take a political stand in any direction, which is what it would be perceived as.

Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 18:38 - Nov 14 with 5338 views | NedPlimpton | Absolutely. 100% A social media platform effectively now owned by the state. Very very dangerous territory
Would you support the Club doing this? Or do you disagree with it? on 18:45 - Nov 14 with 5287 views | wkj | I certainly would to be honest, and this is before we even address the musk in the air. Twitter is a very strong example of the 'Dead Internet Theory' coming into fruition. Bot created content, reacted to and spread by bots then being used to train AI bots... and boomers. As for people who worry about notification of news, RSS exists, and existed long before Twitter. If anything, this may end up reviving the technology a bit.

True it's VC funded, but BlueSky was started by the main protagonist behind Twitter, the person who made it so successful before Musk took over: Jack Dorsey. It is fundamentally different in that it's open source. It can't become a hell-hole to the same extent as X because the project can be forked (a copy made of the source code, and then a new app created). Also, it's based on an open source protocol (AT) that other micro-blogging apps can use besides BlueSky. So again, if it becomes dystopian, people can jump ship to another app that supports AT without losing your identity, followers, etc. I hope the club, and everything else ITFC related at least starts cross-posting to BlueSky with a view to it becoming the primary social media platform.
